The Retreat – Lopez Island Vert Session – More BMX Videos

There’s honestly not enough footage from vert sessions popping up these days. It feels like it’s rare to see a video from a session versus contest footage… But this session during the Skatelite “The Retreat” weekend had a ton of goodness going down. Take a peek!

Head on over to the Ride BMX website to check out some overflow questions from their 25 years of handrails feature from the July 2013 issue. They had some great questions and answers from Mat Hoffman and Dave Parrick that I’m sure anyone with a little interest in BMX’s history can get stoked on.

Mat Hoffman & Dennis McCoy – Vert Demo – Aquafest 1990 – Austin, TX

May 22, 2013

What were you doing in 1990? There’s a good chance a lot of you weren’t even riding yet. I was 2 when this demo that Mat Hoffman and Dennis McCoy did at Aquafest in Austin, Texas. Definitely a flash back for this one.

Shout out to Paul Covey for sending this through!

Mat Hoffman on X-Games Cutting BMX Park and Vert In Los Angeles

May 2, 2013

XGAMES_la-2013-the-action-sports-alliance

Over the past few days, word that park and vert would not be happening at the X-Games stop in Los Angeles this summer. Obviously this decision caught everyone off guard and it definitely got some people a little fired up about it. Today, Mat Hoffman shot out an email to a few people explaining why they chose to do this and how this actually affects the entire picture of BMX in the X-Games in 2013 and into the future. Given it sucks not having that exposure, it does make sense as far as prize money and the combined exposure from all of the stops. Below is the email we received… Take a peek!

“I would like to address the news that BMX Park and BMX Vert will not be included in ESPN’s X Games in Los Angeles this year.

As the BMX organizer for ESPN’s X Games, I, of course, would like to see all disciplines represented at all X Games events, especially my life blood, Vert. However, we have been reassured by ESPN that they are not withdrawing their support and coverage of BMX. They are changing the coverage of sports and disciplines for each stop, as their focus is to produce 6 diversely different TV shows. In fact, to put into perspective, in 2012, ESPN had 4 BMX competitions with $359,000 in prize money. This year, they have 12 BMX competitions with over $1 million in prize money, tripling their support for BMX.

This is progression. We will continue to strongly advocate BMX for all of ESPN’s events and we hope that the BMX community will stand with us in building upon this year and the years to come.” -Mat Hoffman

Caleb Quanbeck and Jeremie Infelise Off Hoffman Bikes

March 7, 2013

JeremieInfelise_FullPage_600x

I’m not really sure what’s going on over at Hoffman Bikes, but Jeremie Infelise and Caleb Quanbeck have decided to part ways with the brand. It sounds the brand is changing directions to get a fresh breath of air into the brand. We’ll let you know when we know more! Below you can find statements from Caleb, Jeremie and Mat.

“I would like to inform you that starting immediately I have resigned my position at Hoffman Bikes as a rider and TM.
Mat is starting a new chapter for HB which I do not feel is where I want to be in BMX.
Thanks to everyone who has helped out in any way over the past few year. I really appreciate it.
” – Jeremie Infelise

“As of today I am no longer riding for Hoffman Bikes. I have no new sponsor lined up. Unfortunately I don’t see eye to eye in where there going.” – Caleb Quanbeck

“ want to squash any rumors and tell you I own Hoffman Bikes 100% and willcontinue to.

Jeremie Infelise did an amazing job as team manager and I am very proud to have the greatest team representing Hoffman Bikes! We wish Jeremie well in the other opportunities and directions he wants to pursue.

HB has some great things happening on the horizon. I¹m excited to work closely with the team and to make 2013 and beyond progressive. – Mat Hoffman

Deathfix – “Better Than Bad” Music Video

February 16, 2013

This is rad. Mat Hoffman’s friends band, Deathfix, asked Mat to put together a music video using their new song “Better Than Bad” using footage he’s been collecting with his GoPro and other cameras lately. Mat came up with this rad video filled with good times for you guys to check out. Good tune and some good riding… Can’t go wrong! Check it out!

Check out a little more about the video that I found on We Have Motive below.

“All who have been following my weekly video posts might have seen my Backyard Session – A day w/ Van Homan that I posted the week of 1.22.13. If you did you heard my good friend Brendan Canty’s new bandDeathfix. Brendan is one of the greatest punk rock heroes of all time and has blessed me with scoring my “Birth of Big Air” film and inspired me with his and his Dischord family’s music my entire life.
After I posted this short vid with Van & I Brendan asked if I would be interested in expanding that edit into a full length music video for thier song “Better than Bad”. So I rolled around with a couple cameras and threw this together of sort a “day in the life” to the Deathfix goodness.
