Merritt – Brian Foster FT1 Tire Winter Testing

May 20, 2015

We don’t see too many BMX videos out of the Blue Falcon, Brian Foster, these days, but damn it when we do we’re psyched! Merritt just released this new video of Brian putting his new Signature FT1 Tire to work on the old Little Devil bowl, The Unit and Woodward East! Must see for sure!

“Trail season is just starting for the year, so while Brian Foster finishes up a trails edit for his signature tire, he filmed some indoor clips showing the tire isn’t just a trails tire. Merrittbmx.com for more info.”

Merritt – Tension Hub Guard Installation

May 14, 2015

Yesterday we dropped an Insight on Merritt’s new Tension Hub guard, now today we have a quick video showing you how to install the hub guard and just how the spring tension holds it in place. These are available through all shops and mail-orders that carry Merritt now! Pretty rad idea for a BMX hub guard.

Insight: Merritt – Tension Hub Guard

Merritt have just released a handful of new products in their latest shipment. We’ve seen new stems, tires, sprockets and one item in particular that really caught our eye, the Tension hub guard. This guard is designed to be a universal hub guard that can be easily attached to the spokes by using a single spring clip that holds the guard in place with tension. This guard, similar to the original G-Sport G.L.A.N.D hub guard that uses zip ties to hold it to the spokes, is made from plastic with a 3″ diameter and slides over your existing hardware (non-drive). The guard has little blocks that fit between the spokes and the spring goes on using the blocks as guides to hold everything together. The Tension hub guard is available in black only with a weight of 0.9 oz. and is currently available through all shops and mail-orders that carry Merritt worldwide now.

Merritt – Final Drive Freecoaster Promo

May 11, 2015

Merritt just dropped this promo for their brand new Final Drive Freecoaster that is out now! Watch Brandon Begin, Jim Borio, Charlie Crumlish and Brett Silva put the hub to damn good use in this dialed BMX video. Highly advise you hit play on this!

“We used a traditional clutch style system paired with our 9T Diamond Driver (the driver comes with a lifetime guarantee). Our driver replaces the small bearings, the most common source of failure in freecoasters, with polymer bushings along its entire length. The hub shell is super slim and CNC’d 6061 aluminum with a hollow chromoly axle. The hub comes set with maximum slack but adjustment washers are included to reduce slack if desired. Available in RHD and LHD.”

Product: Merritt – Option Tires

May 11, 2015

The second new BMX tire from Merritt is their Option tire. This tire features a unique tread pattern that is smooth in the center and has deeper grooves and knurling on the sides for extra traction. You can find a thicker rubber in the center to help with shock absorbtion and increase the life of the tire, then tapers on the sides to help reduce weight where the rubber doesn’t need to be thicker. The sidewalls also feature their new “Sidewall Technology” which uses a ultra-hard, low-friction rubber compound that reduces drag from grinds and helps to increase the life of the sidewall that can wear from grinding as well.

The Option tire is available in 20 x 2.35″ with color options of black, gum or blue and a weight of 27.4 oz.

Merritt have just released a whole bunch of new products! One of those items is their Final Drive Freecoaster that has been getting a little hype lately from some curious freecoaster riders. This hub has a super slim CNC machined 6061 aluminum shell that looks more like a cassette. Inside, you can find hollow chromoly 14mm axle and the traditional clutch style system, however, they use their new 9-tooth Diamond driver that eliminates the bearings that frequently blow out with polymer bushings. They’re so confident that it works better that the driver has a lifetime warranty! The hub comes with adjustment washers for those of you who don’t want to run maximum slack as well.

The Final Drive Freecoaster is available in right or left side drive with black for the color and a weight of 19.9 oz. through all BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Merritt now!

Product: Merritt – FT1 Brian Foster Tire Out Now

May 7, 2015

Merritt-BMX-FT1-Tire-Sample

Here’s some news we just spotted on Can You Dig It! Brian Foster’s signature FT1 tire from Merritt is OUT NOW. Get the full scoop on the tire direct from Merritt below!

“Trails nowadays are nothing like they used to be, very little pedaling and/or braking and the dirt is usually rock hard, it doesn’t make sense to mimic MX tires (that have to accelerate, brake and turn in soft dirt) with big knobs anymore. That lead to giving the FT1 a relatively smooth center section, to make the tire fast. Turning is when an increase in grip (instead of outright speed) is needed, lean the bike over in a turn and the micro-knobs come into play. The micro-knobs provide a perfect balance of surface area, stability and space in between for when the dirt might be a little soft still. The micro-knobs actually stick up above the main surface a super small amount, this allows them to sink into that slightly soft dirt and give an increase in surface area contact, but the amount they are raised isn’t enough to affect stability or grip on hard surfaces. At the edges of the tread pattern are smooth tread blocks that help protect the sidewall on ramps and street, you’d have to lean over more than a moto GP rider to get that part of tire on the ground, so anything in that area of a tire is about how it contacts ledges, rails, etc. Will be available in black or blue in 2.25, with more sizes in the works. The FT1 tire is designed for the way things are now, not how they used to be.“”
