Mongoose Jam UK 2016 – Park Highlights

July 9, 2016

Over the past few days we have been seeing what went down during the Mongoose Jam UK. Today, we get a look at the highlights from the park section that went absolutely nuts! Hit play and check out all the madness. After you watch that, check out the other highlights…

Mongoose Jam UK 2016 – Street Section

Mongoose Jam UK 2016 – Bowl Section

“It was a great few days at Rush Skatepark in Stroud, England. Mongoose saved the best for last rounding out the first Mongoose Jam UK with a Park comp. The course layout allowed the field of athletes put together tons of unique lines. The box jump, quarter and back wall let riders boost huge airs while the technical middle section with a 5 foot deep bowl let athletes link together technical lines and combos.

During Park, the ams went all out in Park. Kaine Mitchell (Team Ryan) threw flair tuck no-handers on quarters and front flips and 360 bar to bars on the jump box. Dan Allington (Team Isted) pulled a clean double tailwhip on the box jump, while Jack Hobson (Team Casey) linked together floaty superman seat grabs, 360 tuck no-handers and flairs. At the end of the day, it was Ross Domanski (Team Peraza) who took the top amateur spot ranking 6th overall in Park.

While the pros let the spotlight shine on the ams, they definitely let it shine on them too. The crowd went nuts when Gary Spencer (Team Ryan) tried a handplant bar on the wall, but he was a too close and accidently hit his bars on the wall for an assisted bar to bar back. It was clean enough to almost look like he did it on purpose.

Tom Isted (Team Isted) flowed through the park at warp speed and came out of the quarter, over the deck and wall rode the railing of the second floor viewing area, while Team Peraza’s Ross Domanski killed it with a huge superman seat grab over the box, into a 720 on the quarter and a 360 over the bowl. Victor Peraza (Team Peraza) checked all the boxes with a 360 table top to look back over the box and technical combos. He finished his run with a suicide no-hander to fakie on a quarter.

Park Comp Top Five Individual Results:
1. Ben Wallace (Team Wallace)
2. Kevin Peraza (Team Peraza)
3. Alex Coleborn (Team Illingworth)
4. Jack Clark (Team Peraza)
5. Declan Brooks (Team Wallace)

Overall Team Standings (Day 3):
1. Team Peraza
2. Team Wallace
3. Team Isted
4. Team Illingworth
5. Team Casey
6. Team Ryan

Mongoose Jam UK 2016 – Street Section

July 7, 2016

Here’s a look at what went down during the Mongoose Jam UK Street section! This one is unique because of how diverse the styles of riders who threw down for this, making for a really good watch from start to finish. Get on it!

Did you see what went down during the bowl section? Mongoose Jam UK 2016 – Bowl Section

“Day two started with the winning AMs joining their Pro teams for the street comp at Rush Skatepark in Stroud, UK. Each athlete had two 45 second runs, best score counts. All team members were welcome to ride. But, only the top two scores from each team counted towards their overall score.

The large street course gave riders a ton of options for all styles from long technical combo lines to burley gaps. The AMs took full advantage of what the course had to offer with guys like Dan Allington doing no foot nose manuals across the entire 50+ foot deck above the stair set, Leon Williams with a nose bonk 360 over the ledge-topped pyramid and Ross Domanski tail whipping off a banked wall.

Murray Loubster was riding with an injured thumb he had dislocated the day before in practice. But, you couldn’t tell with the clean lines and landings he was pulling. Kriss Kyle was smooth as always with an alli-oop 360 out of the curved all ride and simple but styley fast plant off the ledge-top pyramid. Alex Donnachie showed off his down-rail skills with a fast plant to ice down and a double peg to 360 up. But, one of the crowd favorites was Kevin Peraza’s entrance into his run with a truck driver from the park course into the street course as well as a nose wheelie to 180 down one of the big ledges.

“Day one finished off with the pro bowl jam where 19 pros from the field of 24 athletes went head-to-head in the first pro event of the weekend. Riders quickly found flowy lines while linking sub-box tricks, big airs and tech tricks over the spine.

Stand-out tricks included Ryan Taylor (Team Casey) starting his run with a flair drop-in from the deck, Kevin Peraza (Team Peraza) doing a picture-perfect 450 nose manual over the wedge hip, Gary Spencer’s (Team Ryan) 360 whip to foot jam – bar in and Pat Casey’s (Team Casey) 180 double whip over the spine finishing off the line with a fakey 360. At the end of the day it was Team Isted’s, James Jones’ who edged out Ben Wallace and took first with lofty airs like bar to tuck no handers and endless whip variations.

Mongoose Expands Mongoose Jam to the UK

May 3, 2016

mongoose-jam-2016-uk-news

It looks like Mongoose will be hosting TWO jams this summer. One, which will feature a new video format here in the U.S at Woodward West and a 2nd that will follow the same format as the previous years in the U.K! We have not one, but TWO press releases about each event for you to check out. Should be awesome events for both!

Mongoose Jam at Woodward West

“Mongoose Announces New Contest Format For the Fifth Annual Mongoose Jam

Madison, Wisc. – April 26, 2016 – Mongoose Bikes, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A) announced today an all-new format for the fifth annual Mongoose Jam. Rather than a live, three discipline event, five teams captained by Mongoose BMX pros will compete in a video edit contest featuring Street, Dirt, and Park riding. Each team will have five days during Woodward West’s ninth week of camp to create the best video edit.

From July 31st through August 5th fifteen pros, five amateurs, and five videographers will shoot and produce five team edits. The teams’ video edits will be screened for all Week Nine campers at Woodward West’s theater on Friday, August 5th and judged by BMX industry veterans. Winning edits will be selected based on originality and style, the variety and difficulty of tricks used and the video production quality.

Mongoose BMX riders Pat Casey, Greg Illingworth, Kevin Peraza, Paul Ryan and Ben Wallace will each captain one of the five teams, inviting two pro BMX athletes as well as one videographer to join their teams. Captains will also have the opportunity to scout and select one amateur from among the Woodward West campers to join their teams.

The pros and their videographers will compete for a piece of a $50,000 prize purse as well as individual win bonuses while the amateur on the winning team will win a free week at Woodward. Each amateur will also receive a custom Mongoose frame and apparel.

“After four years, this is an exciting change to the Mongoose Jam format,” said Leigh Ramsdell, Mongoose Team Manager. “Riders won’t be limited to a traditional contest format or to specific sections of camp. Instead, they’ll have access to explore and film all over Woodward West allowing them to showcase their unique riding styles. I can’t wait to see the edits the teams come up with!”

As captains select their teams, Mongoose will share updates on its website. In addition, the brand will post event news, release Jam teaser edits, and announce giveaways as the Jam gets closer.

Mongoose Jam in the UK Details

“Madison, Wis. – May 2, 2016 – Mongoose Bikes, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A) today announced it will expand Mongoose Jam across the pond. Following years of successful contests at Camp Woodward and Woodward West in the United States and another taking place this summer in the United States, the brand will host its first ever Mongoose Jam UK.

Mongoose Jam UK will mimic the contest formats. On July 2nd and 3rd, twenty-four pros and six amateurs will compete over a two-day period. Athletes will show off their unique styles and test their skill levels to attempt new and never-before-seen tricks in order to advance the sport of BMX.

Mongoose pros Pat Casey, Greg Illingworth, Tom Isted, Kevin Peraza, Paul Ryan, and Ben Wallace, and will hand-pick their teams. Each captain will choose three additional pros and one amateur athlete to ride Bowl, Park, and Street.

Rush Skatepark in Stroud, England will play host to the inaugural Mongoose Jam UK. The 40,000 square foot indoor skatepark is the perfect venue for the Jam as it features three distinct contest areas – a Street course, a Park course, and a Bowl contest. Traditionally, Mongoose Jams throughout the United States featured a Dirt contest. The new addition of Bowl will bring an exciting element to the Mongoose Jam as riders will have the opportunity to show off their bowl skills. All three spots will also offer fans a great view of the contest.

The athletes will compete for a piece of a $15,000 prize purse. Mongoose Jam riders are welcome to ride in every event. However, each team’s top two scores from each event will be the only scores to count toward their team’s overall placing. The team with the highest cumulative points will be crowned after the last event. Scores will be determined by a panel of BMX industry veterans.

“We are very excited to expand the Mongoose Jam to the UK for our first ever international event,” said Steve Wilcox, Sports Marketing Manager for Mongoose. “At a time when successful Pro/Am contests are few and far between, we are very fortunate to see incredible growth with the Mongoose Jam.”

“The UK used to have the best BMX events,” said Mark Noble, BMX Category Manager for Mongoose. “We’re planning on bringing that magic back with Mongoose Jam UK, working with our athletes to invite the best selection of pros and ams into the mix, all in the perfect venue at Rush, with serious prize money. BMX needs big events like this!””

Pat Casey On Mongoose

February 4, 2016

pat-casey-on-mongoose-bmx

After parting ways with Haro a little while back, it looks like Pat Casey has found a spot on the Mongoose team! Check out the full press release below to get the full scoop. This should mean we’ll be seeing plenty of Pat throughout the year, as expected.

“Mongoose Adds Pat Casey to BMX Team

Madison, Wis. – February 4, 2016 – Mongoose Bikes, a brand of Dorel Industries, Inc. (TSX: DII.B, DII.A) today announced the addition of pro rider Pat Casey to its BMX team. Casey will join fellow BMX pros Greg Illingworth, Kevin Peraza, Paul Ryan, and Ben Wallace to form the 2016 Mongoose BMX Team.

“I’m honored to be part of the Mongoose team,” said Casey. “When some of my friends, now teammates, asked me if I would be interested in joining the team, I was ecstatic. I’m excited to start 2016 on the Mongoose team, and I will continue to push myself as an athlete and show the brand that they made a great decision choosing me to be part of the Mongoose family.”

At twenty-two years-old, Casey has ridden professionally for nine years. Unveiling difficult tricks, such as the decade backflip, in the middle of contest runs, it did not take long for Casey to get noticed. He has been a crowd-pleaser ever since and has taken podiums at numerous BMX events including X Games, Simple Session, and Red Bull Dreamline.

When not on the contest scene, Casey has personal access to his own backyard set up, a ramp and recently built dirt course which allow him to constantly progress his sport.

“I have watched Pat Casey make his way through the pro ranks, and I could not be happier to have him on the Mongoose team,” said Mongoose Team Manager, Leigh Ramsdell. “He is not afraid to throw down some of the hardest tricks in a contest while making them look stylish. Pat has a good head on his shoulders and will fit in perfectly with the rest of the team. We are glad to have him on board.”

Casey’s teammates are also looking forward to his addition to Mongoose. “Pat Casey’s incredible style and unique riding will make Mongoose stand out in 2016,” mentioned teammate and Mongoose athlete, Kevin Peraza. “We will be a well-rounded team full of awesome athletes who get along and enjoy riding.

“I’m stoked to have Pat as a teammate,” added Peraza. “I’m excited to see how, as a team, we will help motivate the youth of our sport.”

For more information on Mongoose and the bikes the pros ride, visit www.mongoose.com. Keep up on the latest from the brand and its team riders at Facebook.com/MongooseBikes, @Mongoose on Twitter, and @mongoosebikes on Instagram.”
