Recon Tour 2014 – Clairemont Skatepark Pro & AM Highlights

October 15, 2014

This past weekend, the Recon Tour hit Clairemont Skatepark out in San Diego! Check out a ton of bangers that went down between the Pro class and AM class in two videos! Check out pro class up top and the AM video after the jump!

“The second stop of the Recon Tour PRO presented by Replay XD went down last weekend at Mission Valley YMCA Krause Family Skate & Bike Park (Clairemont). Australian Logan Martin claimed the top spot and earned $5,000 competing against Monster Energy teammate’s Scotty Cranmer and Kevin Peraza, and local pros Alex Landeros, Chris Hughes and Larry Edgar.

The PRO contest was stacked with International competitors, coming from Australia, England and Canada to compete with athletes from across the states. Taking first Australian Logan Martin earned the top spot with unique tricks and original lines. Coming in second, Monster Energy’s Scotty Cranmer whose memorable runs included a helicopter on the step up and an ice pick on the MovieTickets.com mural wall. Taking the third podium spot, Larry Edgar rounded out the podium by airing higher than any other competitor.

Advancing to the PRO contest from Saturday’s AM final, Jacob Bailey, Kevin Fabregue and local boy Parker Heath competed against the best and earned their way into the final. Former AM winners, Sebastian Smith, Brad Thomas, Case Taylor and Joel Bondu each finished in the top ten of the PRO contest, proving the unique format of the Recon Tour valuable as the only route for am competitors to compete against pros in BMX.

Recon Tour 2014 – Incline Club Pro & AM Videos

October 2, 2014

This past weekend the Recon Tour hit The Incline Club out in New Jersey and things got WILD. Check out highlights from the Pro class up above and then take a look at what the AM’s threw down, down below! Sooo stoked to see Brett Banasiewicz riding in a pro contest again!

“The first Recon Tour PRO presented by Replay XD went down this past weekend with Monster Energy’s own Kevin Peraza claiming the top spot and earning $5,000. Peraza was up against a stacked field of competition including athletes such as Daniel Sandoval, Nick Bruce, Rob Armour, Jack Fahey, and Kenneth Tencio to name a few. This event is unique because in today’s world of BMX events there is not a way for no-name athletes to compete in PRO events even if they have the talent. This event gives athletes such as Trent Newkirk, Brian Fox, Joel Bondu, and Matty Cranmer a chance to compete against the professionals. They earned their spot by placing on the podium in the Recon Tour AM event’s earlier in the year which ensured them a spot in the Recon Tour PRO event. It was a cinderella story for Joel Bondu and Trent Newkirk who placed 2nd and 3rd in the Recon Tour PRO on Sunday. Joel earned his spot in the PRO the day before by taking 3rd place in the AM Recon Tour. He showed up on Sunday with the fire in his eyes and proved to everyone that he belongs in the PRO division by taking home 2nd place and $2,500 right behind Kevin. Trent also earned his spot in the PRO by making it to the Recon Tour Finals last year. He had an impressive finish on Sunday taking home 3rd place and beating some of the best BMX athletes in the world and walking away with $1,000.

Special thanks to the Hookit brand partners: Monster Army, Replay XD, Hyper Bike co., Movietickets.com, Pro-Tec, Sunringle, ODI, Snafu, Fugoo, Vans, and Vital BMX. Big thanks to Scotty Cranmer, Scott Sr., Donna Cranmer, and the entire Incline Club staff. Also thanks to Ian Abbott & Crew, Ryan Guettler, Kris Fox, Danny Josa, Dylan Pfohl and Victor Salazar.

Monster Recon Tour 2014 – The Kitchen

August 13, 2014

“MONSTER ARMY RECON TOUR ROUND 4

Brad Thomas gets gold in the open division at the Monster Army Recon Tour Round 4 in South Bend, Indiana at the iconic Kitchen BMX Park. Isaiah Potter took home first place in the 16 + division as well as Eddie Rovi taking another gold medal in the 13-15 division.

This is the second year that Brett Banasiewicz and his family have opened their doors to their world-class facility. Much like last year the competition was intense and the tricks even bigger. Banasiewicz built this facility just over three years ago when he was considered one of the best BMX athletes in the world. Unfortunately, he had a life-changing injury, but remains passionate about growing and evolving the sport of BMX.

The open division was full of excitement with all the competitors going for broke. Front flips, flip whips, and big transfers were a common theme in this division. Thomas walked away with the golden ticket and advanced to the Recon Tour finals. Coming from California he impressed the judges with his overall use of the course, 360 combinations, transfer lines, and massive superman seat grabs. Zach Shoemaker was also consistent and had a big bag of tricks including 360 double tail whips, flair variations, and multiple 360 combinations that landed him the 2nd place finish. Gage Leiter took third place and impressed with tricks like 360 double tail whips, and 360 double bar spins.

In the 16 + division Potter once again took home first place for the second consecutive event. He was unstoppable with his flairs, 360’s, and linking his tricks on the step-down section. The second place spot was earned by Jonathan King who was by far the fastest competitor the judges saw all day. He flew through the course with lightning speed doing multiple bar spin variations and trying massive transfer lines. Dalton Edwards impressed the judges with his street-style tricks like double peg to bar and 360 off the step down to flat, which secured his third place position.

In the 13-15 division Rovi dominated for the second contest in a row and took home first place throwing down huge tricks like superman seat grabs and double whips. Nico Vanderheyden took home second place by using the entire course and his technical consistency. Alex Duleba finished in 3rd place with big box tricks and his fluid, smooth style. Local shredder Hannah Roberts just missed out on the podium, but threw big tricks like x-up transfers and 360 bar spins.

Thanks to the Hookit brand partners: Monster Army, Replay XD, Hyper Bike co., Movietickets.com, Pro-Tec, Sunringle, Deft Family, ODI, Snafu, Fugoo, Vans, and Vital BMX. Big thanks to Brett, Bill, and Lisa Banasiewicz as well as the entire Kitchen Staff. Also thanks to Ryan Guettler, Kris Fox, Joey Marks, and Rich Hoppie.

Recon Tour 2014 – Ramp Riders

May 2, 2014

This years Monster Recon Tour is under way and their first stop was Ramp Riders in St. Louis! Check out some highlights from the day in this video! Looks like things kicked off with some damn good riding!

“Jimmy Smith takes the first open division win at the Monster Army Recon Tour presented by Replay XD. The event was held at the iconic Ramp Riders Park in St. Louis, MO where the BMX roots date back to the early 2000’s. It took place this past Saturday on April 26, 2014 and set the stage for the 1st stop of the Recon Tour. The Recon Tour’s mission is to support amateur athletes by hosting events that will give the competitors a chance to win an entry into pro events. This is a big step for the BMX community because the only way to earn an invite into big cash pro events is through a voting or ballet system, which usually turns into a popularity contest. We exist to support the next generation of athletes and help them advance to the professional level.

Special thanks to the Hookit brand partners: Monster Army, Replay XD, Hyper Bike co. Movietickets.com, Pro-Tec, Sunringle, Deft Family, ODI, Snafu, Fugoo, Vans, Vital BMX. Replay XD – Recon Tour: Play Am Finals

September 26, 2013

A few weeks back Fat Tony released his coverage of the event, and now we get a second perspective on the Recon Tour finals thanks to the guys at Replay XD.

Replay XD – Recon Tour Windells Camp Recap

August 23, 2013

You may have seen the official recap video from the Windells Camp stop of the Recon Tour earlier this week, but here is a second edit from Replay XD. Replay XD is one of the tour’s biggest supporters, making small HD action cameras.

Recon Tour – Windells Camp, Oregon

August 21, 2013

Here’s the video from the final stop of the Monster Energy Recon Tour! Check out what went down and who won themselves a spot to the finals that will be held in Florida soon!

“The Recon Tour presented by Replay XD held the last stop at Windells camp located just outside of Sandy, OR. With temperatures in the low 80’s and a slight breeze blowing, the competitors were ready to face up against the outside cement park that Windells camp built to perfection. The park served some of the most original and creative lines that we have witnessed so far on the tour. It was a bitter sweet day as we watched all the smiling competitors come together to make a very memorable last stop. Athletes traveled from all around the country including Canada, Chicago, and various parts of California. The competition was fierce and the day unraveled in a very dramatic fashion. The play open division took eight well deserving athletes to the finals to battle for the last ticket to the Recon Tour finals. New athletes to compete in the Recon Tour like Adam Piatek, Frank Bornhoeft, and Taylor Isaak, were facing up against the veterans of the tour like Sebastian Smith, Derek Kenny, and Cory Clark. In the end it was the rookie Adam Piatek who took out the rest of the field with his effortless style and smooth tricks around the entire park. He utilized the concrete park better than any of his peers and did not make one mistake during his run. It was a very well respected and deserving run to beat out other athletes who had an arsenal of tricks like double whips, flip whips, and front flips. Adam is now the tenth member who will be getting an all expense paid trip to Florida and competing against the best athletes that the Recon Tour has to offer.

Special thanks to our tour partners, Hookit, Replay XD, A3, Vans, XRyderz, Madcatz, Pro-Tec, Movietickets.com, Hyper BMX, Mike Spinner, Fat Tony, Tim Windell, Rachel Lemons, and Marsha Hovey.

Monster Army Recon Tour – Skatelab

July 30, 2013

Here’s a look at what went down during the Skatelab skatepark stop on the Monster Recon Tour! The kids out in California have definitely been getting wild on the box jumps at these contests, but this one looks like it was more geared towards the street guys this time around. Take a peek at what went down!

“SOLANA BEACH, Calif., July 30, 2013 — The Monster Army Recon Tour presented by Replay XD held the ninth stop at the famous Skatelab in Simi Valley, CA. The Recon Tour blew the doors off the building by hosting the first BMX contest in over a decade. The course was street oriented and challenged the riders to show their technical skills on the stair sets, down rails, and the bowl on the upper level of the park.

Emmett Thomas, who is no stranger to the Recon Tour series, showed his technical skills and walked away with the win in the 13-15 age group. Next up was the 16 + division where a battle for 1st was brewing between Cory Clark from Palmdale, CA and Andrew Coleman from Benson, AZ. Cory barely edged out Andrew in the end and claimed the top podium position and all the bragging rights. The Play Open division was really stacked and all the riders had their work cut out for them. Brian Fox from Deerfield Beach, FL impressed the judges with his speed and power on the course. He had technical tricks backed by big lines and transfers that no other competitor was doing. Brian earned the 1st place podium finish, but because he already had a wildcard spot in the Play Am Finals from an earlier Florida series, 2nd place finisher Ed Percival will be taking home the golden ticket and the 9th spot to compete in the Play AM finals.

The day wrapped up with a rail jam contest on the stair features with the winner taking home a Hyper frame. The athletes put their bodies on the line by doing some of the most technical tricks we witnessed all day. Dave Canary took home the Hyper frame with a fakie full cab down the wedge gap in the last seconds of the competition.

Special thanks to our tour partners Monster Army, Hookit, Replay XD, A3, Vans, XRyderz, Madcatz, Pro-Tec, Movietickets.com, Hyper BMX, Mike Spinner, Fat Tony, and Todd from Skatelab.
