Simple Session 2012 – Information

January 14, 2012

Each year, the Simpel session has grown into something bigger and better than the year before. It’s definitely one event I’ve never been to, but REALLY want to make it to. It looks like this year they made one big change from “Simpel” to “Simple” to keep things… simple. Below you can find all the information you need to know for this years going down March 31st – April 1st.

“Simple Session 12
31 March – 1 April 2012 / Tallinn, Estonia

The annual Simple Session BMX and skateboarding contest, one of Europe’s most anticipated action sports events, will this year take place on 31st of March and 1st of April in Tallinn, Estonia. In addition to the slightly moved springtime dates, the Simple Session event series is revamping it’s brand and setting sights on a more international future.

For years, Simple Session has been the highlight of Europe’s BMX and skateboarding wintertime calendar, taking place in the beginning of February. This year, the contest has moved to early springtime – the organisers hope that the date shift will be welcomed as a great chance to experience the amazing city of Tallinn in a bit sunnier light and warmer weather.

Whereas there will be no big changes in the overall concept of the event, the contest has adjusted it’s name from Simpel Session to Simple Session. “Simple Session has experienced an escalating growth in popularity and coverage over the years, reaching a global audience and the level and quality of a top action sports contest. Also, we have been organising summer events in Helsinki, Finland for two years now and are weighing the possibility of setting foot in other countries as well. We see the little changes we are about to make in our brand as a positive surge forward and a manifestation of a more independent attitude towards the future of the Simple Session series. As Simpel was a trade mark of a former sponsor, the name change will allow us to keep on doing the contests totally under our own brand”, said the director Mario Kalmre.

Simple Session will once again be hosting around 200 top athletes from around the world, including an impressive line-up of the most established riders in the business as well as new talents in the diciplines of BMX street/park and skateboarding.

Simple Session has been around for 12 years and has worked its way up to become one of the biggest and best contests in the world of action sports. Simple Session is a celebration of everything that is amazing about BMX and skateboarding lifestyle.

Stefan Lantschner at Simpel Summer Session

September 9, 2011

“On the 20th of August the Stadi Summer Session (Simpel Session) took place for the second time in Helsinki. In my opinion it already is the best summer event in europe! Sergio, Kevin, Daniel and Stefan of the Flybikes team rode the contest and had a great time there.

Stefan decided to stay longer and went to Tallinn, Estonia for a week, that was filled with meeting a lot nice people, hanging out with the etnies team, riding some new spots and partying. Stefan and myself had a great time!

check out the video, to see them riding the contest and what stefan has been up to in Tallinn!
I hope you like it!

I’d also like to thank Risto, Stefan, everyone from Simpel Session and everyone I have met and had a good time with!

Simpel Summer Session Official Edit #2

September 8, 2011

“On 20th of August, tens of thousands of passing spectators on Helsinki main square witnessed the second Stadi Summer Session, summertime edition of Simpel Session, going down to the history books as the biggest BMX contest ever thrown in Finland. The open-air contest brought together 67 top riders from 20 countries, with Gary Young (USA) stealing the show, Alex Coleborn (UK) coming second and Daniel Tünte (GER) taking the third place.

The event was a big success – the line-up was better than ever before at the Simpel Session’s summer contests, the weather was great despite the worrisome forecasts, and the course was constantly surrounded by a cheering crowd. With BMX legends Darryl Nau, Andy Zeiss and Tommidmg as announcers, the whole Helsinki main square was filled with energy, firing up one of the most amazing and inspiring Simpel Session contests so far.” – Simpel Session

Simpel Summer Session in Helsinki – Official Edit

August 29, 2011

“On 20th of August, tens of thousands of passing spectators on Helsinki main square witnessed the second Stadi Summer Session, summertime edition of Simpel Session, going down to the history books as the biggest BMX contest ever thrown in Finland. The open-air contest brought together 67 top riders from 20 countries, with Gary Young (USA) stealing the show, Alex Coleborn (UK) coming second and Daniel Tünte (GER) taking the third place.

“The event was a big success – the line-up was better than ever before at the Simpel Session’s summer contests, the weather was great despite the worrisome forecasts, and the course was constantly surrounded by a cheering crowd. With BMX legends Darryl Nau and Andy Zeiss as announcers, the whole Helsinki main square was filled with energy, firing up one of the most amazing and inspiring Simpel Session contests so far,” said Risto Kalmre, founder and main organizer of Simpel Session.

A total of 67 riders competed in the contest, with close to half of them from Scandinavian and Baltic countries, to whom the contest serves as a qualification for the Simpel Session main contest, Europe’s biggest BMX- and skateboarding wintertime event taking place in February 2012 in Tallinn, Estonia (to be announced). The prize for Best Scandinavian performance went to the 21-year-old Adrian Malmberg from Sweden, placing 21st in the qualifications. The only Nordic rider who qualified to the finals was the Estonian shredder Andres Lainevool, who in the end did not ride the finals because of an injury, but was still recognized with the Best Baltic Rider award.

Three-time Simpel Session silver medalist Gary Young blazed his way around the course in his usual fashion, firing out all sorts of jumping variations, doing gaps to rails and finding lines that no one else could, keeping his flow and fluidity of lines at an unmatched level and earning the gold medal.

Silver medalist Alex Coleborn proved that he’s a trick machine and sessioned the huge boxjump with a barrelroll whip and other variations. The British rider also fired out moves like triple whip from the huge quarter bank set-up and ended the contest with a bang – a massive flair to footjam out of the 8-foot quarter to the top of the 7-foot bank.

Daniel Tünte secured his bronze medal by impressing the judges with pulling all his hard tricks on the first try. He had both the street moves and impressive ramp tricks, both pulled with an effortless style.

Other notable contestants included several top names from the Etnies and Sunday Bikes USA teams, and members of Fly Bikes, Vans and Nike European teams: among them Alessandro Barbero (ITA), Tommy Dugan (USA), Daniel Wedemejier (NL), Markus Reuss (GER), Corey Martinez (USA), Nathan Williams (USA), Kevin Kalkoff (FRA), Sergio Layos (SPA), Stefan Lantschner (ITA), Paul Ryan (GBR), Daniel Penafiel (SPA) and other athletes such as Greg Illingworth (ZA), Ondra Zlez (CZE) and many others.

The contest bikepark was once again designed by Nate Wessel, responsible for many historic action sports courses of X-Games, Woodward Camps and beyond. It was built by Simpel Sessions own dedicated crew.

Vans – Simpel Summer Session 2011

August 24, 2011

“Having started out as just a local jam, Simpel Session events have worked their way up to become one of the best contest in the World of BMX bikes. And not because of the massive media coverage or hefty prize purse, but more for its ability of attracting the biggest names in the business, a brand new course which never fails to impress, a laid-back vibe and the feeling of a big BMX party.

Unlike Simpel Sessions in January/February, StadiSession is an outdoor event, so there is hope for warm sunny weather, breezy hang-outs in the greenery and a lot of spontaneous street riding on the great streets of Helsinki.
