Standard – Joel Schallhorn Welcome Edit

After seeing nothing but team cuts at the start of the year, it’s cool to see some positive team news popping up today! Standard has begun sponsoring their first flatland rider in a decade. Here is Joel’s statement on the matter:

“Upon being put on the Standard Team, Rick told me he wanted me for my unique and creative riding style that goes against the grain of contemporary flat. So for this video I tried to emphasize this with a variety of brand new or creative tricks.Thank you Rick Moliterno and everyone at Standard for welcoming me to the team! We’ve got great plans for the future of Standard in flatland!”

It’s rad to see Standard helping out two of the very talented riders that were left without a ride after Redline downsized their team. First they hooked Zack Gerber up with a frame, and now Glenn Salyers is officially on the team. Could this be the start of Standard rising back to their former dominance? It’s surely a nice start…

Standard is inviting everyone into their factory/warehouse. Here’s the info:

“Come on over and check out our open house/factory/warehouse for the the second SBC open house this year being held in conjunction with the Midwest National in East Moline and it is a great chance to come over and hangout, see how Standard products are made, check out the “factory”, the ramps, buy a tshirt or custom BMX frame and watch weldmaster Steve do handstand pushups with on the rusted out bumper of an F250! Rain or shine, after the last moto on Saturday, head on over to the Standard Byke Company. This year, see the expanded hall of sbc product fame, production frames in progress to see how it all works and lots of extras. This is pretty rad. Tazz Hernandez recently spent some time at the Standard warehouse filming for these three quick commercials that give you a look around. If there’s one thing BMX could use more of these days, it’s Standard having a bigger presence in BMX again. Maybe this is the calm before the storm?
