Word about Ten Pack Distribution shutting its doors surfaced the other day, but I was waiting on an official word before saying anything since I tend to get in trouble for speculating on the economy of BMX…. Below is an official press-release from the guys about the news. There is also a thread up on Bikeguide with some interesting insight on the news. Definitely not good news by any means, but I did predict the industry would see something like this in my BMX Economics posts a few months back.
“By now everyone has heard the news but we wanted to release an official statement here on the site…
“To our valued customers,
Over the last year, we have seen a drop in sales and profitability. This has led to a lot of discussion regarding where to go with Ten Pack in the future. As you know, it is hard to compete against the pricing in the US since most of the brands have their own distribution there which means that they sell to shops at a much lower price than we can and leads to a lot of cross border shopping. This has led us to decide to downsize our distribution and just focus on MacNeil Bikes, which is our own brand . We have started work on MacNeil complete bikes for 2015 and will continue to produce all of the great frames and parts that we currently offer. This will allow us to offer the MacNeil brand at a very competitive price.
For this year, we will sell through the inventory that we currently have but will not be bringing in any more so get it while you can.
Thanks for your continued support.”
It’s all been a pretty wild ride, big thanks to all of the shops, our team riders, friends, the brands and anyone else who helped make things so great. For the sake of nostalgia, sit back and watch a bunch of videos from our past summer shop tours and more over on our Vimeo page at the link below. Onward and upward.
