The BMX Section

November 6, 2025

Check out the new BMX section at the Clairemont park!

The Clairemont park in San Diego has always had awesome ramps, but they recently got a makeover and now they look incredible! Here’s a video giving you a look at the new ramps Jason Watts‘ crew built, with dialed riding from Jason, Kevin Peraza, Dennis Enarson, Gary Young and more. The lines look pretty much endless and the whole place looks so fun. Take a look!

“All location, hours, and costs for the Mission Valley YMCA Krause Family Skate and Bike Park…aka the “Clairemont Park” can be found here: Clairemont Park Website

The “Clairemont Park” has been a staple in the BMX scene for nearly 30 years. It originally opened in Mission Valley, around ten miles from it’s current location, in 1997. At a time when there was only a handful of public parks and none that accepted BMX, the YMCA park was a haven and focal point for the entire scene in San Diego. So much so, that Gary and myself (Ryan) actually moved to be closer to the park. It’s where we learned how to ride ramps more than anywhere else. In 2001, the park lost the lease with the city because it required the space for broadcast production trucks for the 2003 Superbowl. It was a crushing blow to the scene, but the Mission Valley Krausse YMCA could see how important the park was and found a new home at it’s current location in 2002. The rest is history, as the “Clairemont Park” has been home base for generations of riders in San Diego and a destination for people around the world.
During Covid and with unsure plans of the future, Gary Young took a director role at the park and quickly fell in love with it. His hard work and dedication has breathed new life into the park in many ways, but none more noticeable than procuring the dollars to have Jason Watts’ ramp company, Universal Ramps, come build an absolute masterpiece… We filmed this over five or six days shortly after the park was finished and before it was open to the public, but as things tend to go with me, editing it became a hurdle. Hopefully it was worth the wait.
