Zac Miner Interview

Maybe it’s just me getting excited about the Colony video, or because it’s currently -13 degrees out and Australia is warm, but I’ve been psyched on finding more about some of the Australian guys. Zac Miner is up to bat next and this dude is wild. Zac kills it on a bike and knows how to take some money from a casino. Hell, he even marries seriously hot girls that he just met. Zac has been busy filming for a few projects, working on a signature frame, and traveling quite a bit so I figured he was ready for some questions. Check out what he has to say and some real good photos from Cooper Brownlee, and then leave him some love in the comments!

Name: Zac Miner

Location: Currently Melbourne, Victoria, soon to be Brisbane, Queensland

Sponsors: Colony, Afray Denim, Backbone BMX and NahYouRiteMate

Years riding: Around 8

What was it that first got you into BMX? Any early memories come to mind?
Growing up in a small, country town. I was about 14 when we got a skatepark, everyday before and after school we’d ride that till the sun came down.

How are things going with Colony these days? Do you have anything special in the works with them for 2011? Will you have any signature goodies or anything like that coming along?
Yeah, I’m hopefully getting my prototype frame in the coming weeks, super pumped! It’s going to be similiar to the Lowcut frame only a little higher n a little shorter. Can’t wait!

You guys will be hitting the road pretty heavily soon here. Are you looking forward to filming or are you not really a big fan of the pressure? Whose part are you looking forward to the most for the video?
Yeah, I’m real excited for the up coming trips. I’ve got some stuff planned for the trips, but defintely keen to throw myself down some stuff. As far as sections go, I’m pretty pumped to see the whole end result, just knowing what all of the guys are capable off, it should be an amazing video!

Have you been filming for anything else at all? Can we expect a new web edit or anything any time soon? Yeah, I’m also filming for an Australian based vid “Coping It Sweet” which is gonna blow people away when they see the crew on it… I have also been dropping a few clips for the Blazeguard DVD. I got John Thompson, the filmer, behind the whole project stayin’ with me so it’s real laid back.

Do you have any other fresh sponsor news you are psyched on?
AFRAY is this sick new fashion line coming out of AUS that’s gunna take over the BMX scene soon enough. Mikey is the boss behind it and is super laid back, but he knows his shit. Amazing denim cuts and streetwear that just looks sick… Check it out www.afray.com!!!!!!!!!

2010 looked to be a pretty solid year for you travel wise. You spent quite a bit of time in the U.S. What were some of your favorite places you had the chance to go to? Anywhere you didn’t get to go, but hope to get to at some point?
Surprisingly enough, Greenville was a heap of fun. I was looked after by Guettler whilst there, awesome to experience how crazy that town is… Cheers to Guettler! Canada is definitely a place I’ve always wanted to hit up, I guess we will just wait and see.

Could you ever see yourself being apart of the Aussie invasion and move to the U.S or anywhere else outside of Australia?
Nah, I don’t think so… Too many good things goin on AUS, ha. I still wanna travel a heap, but maybe after riding, not too sure?

You’re pretty notorious for killing it on the streets. Do you have any hot spots you have been real psyched on riding lately?
I’ve just moved down to Melbourne for the last 4 months and everything is fresh, which I’m pumped on. I have been trying to jump in with Cooper Brownlee to travel around to scope spots a heap and it’s paying off

What’s your ideal setup or dream spot to ride?
Any wild transfer or wallride, rails, transition. Just something a little different

It seems like a lot of people have a list of spots or things they want to get done, but have been shut down by cops and injuries in the past. Do you have anything on the list for shit you need to get done?
Yeah, there’s definitely a list for this up coming trip. Some big stuff, I guess. Hopefully, Touchwood all goes good ha. Guess you’ll have to see the video

Given 2011 just got started. Have you set any big goals at all or are you going with a whatever comes, no shits given attitude?
Yeah, not too fussed. I’ve definitely got stuff planned for the Colony vid, then hopefully moving to Brisbane to crunch down on the “Copin’ it sweet” dvd. I just wanna ride solid for the next two years and I’ll be happy.

What are a few of the things that have been getting you psyched to ride lately?
Just everything being new. I’ve also had a good bunch of riders since moving here that just kill it. It makes me wanna ride better, too.

What are you usually doing when you aren’t on your bike?
Working, getting high, and hanging out.

Do you work or anything like that? What could you see yourself doing after BMX someday?
Ha yeah, I work at this club called Revolver. It’s a sick place! A lot of hotties roll through, haha. There’s no solid plans as yet for the future, just take it as it comes?

You have a few tattoos. How many do you have? Do any of them have special meaning or a good story behind them? I’d imagine you have a few more in the works?
Ha Well, the one on my hip is blackjack cards with NahYouRiteMate through the middle of it, the sole reason behind the tat is due to the shit management over at NahYouRiteMate. They’re enforcing that until you have NYRM tattooed on your body, you could be cut from the team at any point, Ha. Most of the team has it. I think at a point I was getting cut and put back on the team 2 or 3 times a week haha.

Didn’t you get married in Vegas this year? Facebook stalking didn’t seem to lead me to any clue if she’s hot or not. Was I imagining things? Is it still legit? How many ladies does it take to satisfy one Zac Miner?
Haha, good question. Such a long story behind the marriage. Whilst at the Nora cup after party, I ended up meeting this hottie and yeah, we got hitched. She came out to Aus for a bit but it just didn’t work out. Ha, but yeah, we’re still technically married.

What makes for a good night out for you? Do you get drunk enough to get married frequently? Have you ever found yourself in a fight or something awesome like that?
Not a fighter, but I definitely love to get rowdy. I just go with the surroundings! I love partying with BMXers. It’s always good for a crazy night.

What’s the last song you heard, movie you watched, and how much was the last stripper you paid for?
Ha, fuck payin’ for strippers… Um, the last song was Dangermouse ft The Flaming Lips, and Inception is a sick movie!

You’re a gambler, right? What are you into? Blackjack, poker, sluts, roulette? What’s the most you have won in a night? What about lost in a night?
Black jack man… Just like any gambler, I’ve had my ups and downs, haha. The most I’ve won was 4 grand over two nights, starting with 100 bucks. I don’t really gamble anymore though.

What would be the first thing you would buy if you found a million dollars on the side of the road?
A house to invest in!!!! I like the idea of having a bullshit house or pad for all the crew that would roll through.

Is there anything about you that you think people would be surprised to know?
Haha, I can’t bunnyhop for shit and I can’t barspin. I’ve realize you’re pretty fucked without those two things.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given or able to give?
Life goes on

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Sure do… Big holla to all my sponsors! They’re all family but none the less they help me out for god knows why? ha. Just friends and family too, huge thanks! Cheers Union for the interview. Hopefully I haven’t bored the shit outta ya.

Anything else you want to say?
