With all the advancements in technology, especially when it comes to phones and their camera capabilities, it’s not really a big surprise that you can, in some cases, end up with some very high quality photos. We’ve seen more and more phones come with more and more options from shutter speed to ISO and aperture settings, making them more like a DSLR camera. Red Bull recently had photographer Kelvin Trautman at the Mash EX&HOP Mini Ramp Contest to test out his skills on shooting a BMX contest with a mobile phone. Above is a video showing you Kelvin putting in the work, along with a few of of the end result photos. One of the best photography tips I ever received was from Rob Dolecki and that was that “You don’t need the highest quality equipment to get good results.” With the way phones are going, you don’t need that super high priced camera to get good results and this is proof of that. Take a look!
“We teamed up with South African photographer Kelvin Trautman and presented him with a challenge; shoot the Ex&Hop BMX contest using only a mobile device. No flashes, no professional cameras and using only available light were all part of this challenge.
“If the conditions are right – light-wise, scenery-wise – it doesn’t really matter what camera you have.” – Kelvin Trautman
Red Bull Illume features a brand-new mobile category for 2016, in which we want to see the best action and adventure shots you have on your camera roll. We teamed up with Kelvin Trautman to show you one of the ways in which you can approach this category!
