Nik Ford sent through a write up on the A Light In THe Dark Jam raising funds for suicide prevention!
The other weekend the 4th annual A Light In The Dark Jam went down over in the U.K. Nik Ford puts this event together every year to help raise funds for CALM, a non-profit that works toward suicide prevention. As always, Nik put in the work to bring riders together for a day of riding, good times and prizes, all while raising funds for a great and very needed cause. Check out a quick write up and a few photos from the jam that Nik sent through!
“Saturday 16th September was the 4th A Light In The Dark BMX Jam, raising money for C.A.L.M – Campaign Against Living Miserably. 125 people die by suicide every week in the UK. That’s 18 people a day. One every 90 minutes. CALM exist to change this and provide help and support for anyone struggling with their mental health.
The event has grown year on year and attracts riders from all across the UK. This year set a new record for fundraising, the total raised was £401.72p
The money raised is enough to fund 50 potential life saving phone calls to CALM. Just think about that number, 50 people will stay and see next week that may have not without CALM and the money raised at the A Light In The Dark BMX Jam.
The jam centred around the 3 main events, Spine/Mini, Hips and Grinds, with AM, PRO and Masters categories.
On the night there were lots of rad riders in attendance. The hip comp saw the Masters put on a real good show with the top 3 Rico Fergueson, Adam Galt and Eman Wain. The pro class saw Brad Mulholland take 1st place with a deep bag of tricks, 2nd was Teddy Kennedy and Matt Silo in joint 3rd with Stratford local, Curtis Southall.
The Grind jam was just as good and full of shredders, George Hall, Jevon Gannon, Max Petts, Matt Silo, Jacob Davis, Louis ‘Pijin’ Bezanson.
Spine comp saw Brad Mulholland take another 1st place in PRO and medal winning M.C – Travis Ford was stoked to see him send some flairs! Masters spine was won by Adam Galt with his timeless classic style.
The evening then moved on to a long jump contest and Teddy Kennedy took home 1st and then high hop was won by Pijin.
