Where does time go? Summer has flown by and tomorrow we’ll be hopping on a plane to Las Vegas tomorrow for our 8th round of Interbike to check out all the latest BMX bikes, frames and parts from all of your favorite BMX brands. Thanks to the internet, we’ve been getting previews from a number of brands giving us a taste of what’s to come so we have a decent idea of some of the items we’ll be seeing from a number of the brands. Today we were treated to a gold mine of product that BSD will be displaying between the QBMX booth and Tip Plus suite from their new Westcoaster freecoaster, to the updated frames, new Dan Paley Soulja frame, fresh colorways, their first rim and a new addition that we have a feeling everyone will be running if you have plastic bar ends. Ready? let’s take a look.
Westcoaster Hub
BSD will be joining the list of brands that offer a freecoaster hub in 2016. We’re not 100% sure how the internals are working, but we’re assuming it’s a modified version of the popular KHE internals. BSD did mention that they are using a triple bearing driver with bushing and cartridge bearings and a unique drag system. They’ve also made it so their popular Jersy Barrier hub guards fit the hub and actually come included with the hub. We’ll have to find out a little more about this guy when we bump into Grant Smith.
2016 Frames
For 2016, BSD have updated the Alex Donnachie signature ALVX frame, David Grant’s Raider frame and Kriss Kyle’s Passenger frame with a few modifications like Investment Cast drop outs that are designed to fit plastic pegs properly. BSD are also introducing Dan Paley’s signature Soulja frame which, from the photo above, appears to have a similar look to their other frames but we would assume this will have some unique dimensions to fit Dan’s style of riding.
Chocolate & Surplus Green Colorways
BSD have added two new colors to their parts line for 2016; chocolate and Surplus green. We have a feeling that 2016 will be the year of chocolate and just brown in general. We’ve seen a few sneak previews from other brands and this color seems to be making a strong appearance.
Donnasqueen Tire Colors
Alex Donnachie’s popular Donnasqueek tires will also be available in chocolate brown and a 3rd new color, Sand, as well.
M-Cap Bar Ends
Here’s one item in particular we’re probably way too excited about and surprised it hasn’t been done yet. The new “M-Cap” takes a sturdy metal bar end and combines it with the lightweight and easy to use aspect of a plastic plug style bar end and brings them together. Apparently this was an idea Dan Paley cooked up after he was over breaking bar ends. We have a feeling this is a design that will be making its way into a number of brands product offerings in the near future since it’s such a simple concept that we’re assuming works really well.
NASA Rim
And finally, the new NASA rim, which is BSD’s first BMX rim they have introduced to their line up. No specs on this guy, but it does appear to be a little wider, probably a 36mm width. The rim does feature an I-Beam design, extra thick tapered sidewalls, tapered spoke seats and a curved inner strut. The NASA rim uses a cross over lacing pattern so this should be a structurally sound rim.
So, that’s a look at a number of BSD’s new products that they will be showing off at Interbike this week! We’ll be hitting them up to try and get a little more information and to see what else they have planned for the rest of their line. So far, we’re stoked to see just what they have been cooking up over in Scotland over the past year.
