Photogallery: FBM Post Apocolympics

September 4, 2012

This past weekend, FBM invaded Derek Nelson’s compound to throw a jam in true FBM fashion with a lot of beer, pizza, BMX, good people and good times. There was no doubt in anyones mind that this was going to be anything but a good time. We were lucky enough to have our friend, Nick Jones, there to take it all in with his camera. We’ve got 29 photos from the day for you to check out to either remember what the hell actually happened after you blacked out or if you weren’t lucky enough to be there to see some of what went down. First, here’s a couple words from Nick….

“The first FBM Post Apocolympics went down Saturday in Vestal, NY and it was one of the best weekends I’ve had all summer. Watching Jack Hartje jump over the entire satellite and then try to 360 it was defiantly a highlight as well as the bunny hop contest on Derek Nelson’s five thousand pound bike from Road Fools 13. I also saw Crandall get naked for a big boobs contest later that night at tent city. Good times and good people sums it all up. Shout out to Derek Nelson, Steve Crandall, and everyone else that made this jam possible.” – Nick Jones

Bikeguide + The Union

September 2, 2012

Sometime back around 2006, I joined the forum Bikeguide after a friend had told me about it. I remember him talking about all these people who posted up bike checks, riding photos and videos, tips on how to fix and modify bikes, and you could even buy and sell your parts. It all sounded pretty cool. I was already obsessed with BMX and surrounded myself with it as much as possible at this time, so it seemed like this was a good place to feed the addiction even more.
Before I knew it, I was constantly checking out the forum and meeting people from all over the world that rode and was even checking out some of the first web videos to hit the internet which was a pretty big deal back when creating a video wasn’t nearly as easy and accessible as it is today.

I know that Bikeguide was definitely one of the influences that caused me to start The Union in the first place too. In fact, Sheepdog, the guy who created the forum was one of the first interviews I had done back in 2007.

Over the years, the forum stayed true to what it was created for. Then, a while back, after looking at the out dated front end of the forum that featured all sorts of things like a spoke calculator, tech advice, and tutorials that were still beneficial but some what irrelevant because it referred to parts that haven’t even been available in years, I got an idea that I proposed to Sheepdog. Bringing The Union and Bikeguide together to help grow both sites.

We aren’t merging or anything and we will remain two separate sites with our original URL’s, but we are working together to bring you two awesome websites toghether to help you stay connected with all the latest videos, news, products and more in BMX. As of today, The Union has replaced the out dated front page of Bikeguide, which will now feature our original interviews, videos, photo galleries, reviews and more like with have since 2007, along with all the latest videos, news, products and more in the Daily section. Bikeguide will continue to be a community for everyone to get to know other riders like yourself, post up your latest videos, photos and bike setup, buy and sell parts and more.

We now have links to the forum up top in the navigation and along the right side in the links. If you haven’t heard of Bikeguide or you haven’t checked in, in a while, I definitely suggest you give it a look by clicking here. You will definitely find something that you want to check out on there.

We’re real excited about this news and we hope you guys are too. There’s definitely going to be a lot of good things coming from this so keep checking back!

Through The Lens: Company Check – Quintin Co.

August 29, 2012

I wanted to mix things up a bit and put out an original interview for this weeks column. As a photographer in the BMX industry for the past several years I have come to meet a lot of amazing people and have been to some rad places. Some of those places happen to be company’s headquarters right here in Southern California. I am honored to be able to take the time to go and hang out with some good people and sit them down for an interview. That was the plan when it came to stopping by the Quintin factory. They have been making their way onto the BMX scene for years now and surely you have seen some of your favorite pros rockin’ a Quintin hat at some point. I wanted figure out exactly what Quintin is all about so I sat down with Rob and Brett and fired some questions their way. Sit back, relax and enjoy a look into one of the few BMX apparel brands and find out why they do what they do.

We recently received some photos from Sacramento based photographer, Wayne Riser. We were impressed with what we had to offer up, so we put together 25 of his favorite shots that he shot recently into a photogallery for you to check out! Check out what he has for you!

Through The Lens: From The Archives

August 22, 2012

When you shoot on a regular basis the photos just start stacking up and stacking up and before long, you have over 50,000 photos backed up on hard drives. This situation is pretty common for most photographers and although organizing and getting a true archiving system down can be annoying as hell, it is 100% worth it in the long run. I have been recently working on archiving tens of thousands of photos and am slowly making progress. In the meantime I figured I would pull out some photos for an exclusive gallery and inside look at some photos that have fell through the cracks over the years. Enjoy!
