July was a real good month for The Union. For the first time that I can remember, we were able to produce an Original (sometimes two) every single day of the month. I was thinking that it’s pretty unlikely that you caught every single interview, photo gallery, video, review, Products:, Hangover or Insight we dropped. That’s why we have compiled a list of all the features that dropped so you can go back and check out the ones you missed or revisit the ones you liked. Have a look!
This week’s feature is going to be a little bit different than most and a bit of collaboration between The Union and Mongoose. I recently headed a few hours north of Los Angeles to shoot the Mongoose Team Jam up at Woodward West in Tehachapi. It was three days of shredding and nothing short of a good time. I was originally just going to cruise up and shoot a gallery for the site but at the last minute I was asked to shoot the entire event for Mongoose and of course I wasn’t going to turn that opportunity down so I ended up being pretty slammed with work over the course of three days. When it all comes down to it if you get to shoot photos, have fun, chill with some good friends and even sneak in a session or two and consider it “work” it would be hard not to have a good time. The other week I got an interesting email from Kristopher Humphries that caught my attention. Kris had asked if I ever followed any of the Tumblr BMX sites that are out there. I’ll be honest and say that between all the videos, emails, Tweets, Facebook messages, RSS feeds and everything I get into every day, I haven’t paid all that close of attention to this other outlet of the social network that is a lot bigger than I imagined. Kris and I talked about it and decided it would be rad to put together a list of some of the best Tumblr sites out there producing BMX content these days. If you have any interest in pursuing BMX photography or photography in general you will eventually need to learn how to prepare for trips, know how to pack your gear, and be ready to handle whatever project it is you may be working on. One of the main reasons that I love writing this column is the fact that each feature seems to come out pretty organically. For the most part I don’t plan ahead, and I typically won’t work on a column until the night before. For example it’s 12:23AM and I am just getting started writing this week’s feature. Sure, it may not seem like the best idea to put off a deadline until the very last minute or to wait until the bitter end to come up with an idea and then stay up until the sun rises working on it but to me, that is the best part about it. Each week the same mountain is put in front of me and I have to climb it every time no matter what I did in the days leading up to it, no matter how tired or burnt out I may be or no matter how big of a case of writers block I may be experiencing at the time. This is the 23rd TTL and I just wanted to send a shout-out to all of the people who have emailed me and said good things about the column, all of the companies who support The Union, and anyone who can appreciate what it takes to make it in the photo game these days; now onto TTL #23.

There have been an amazing amount of dialed photographers submitting their work lately. Recently, Garrett Meyers sent through a few of his photos that were really impressive. We decided there was no way we couldn’t have you guys see these photos that Garrett took, so we have a fresh photogallery with 21 of Garrett’s photos featuring the likes of Aaron Day, Mike Saavedra, Justin Inman, Arrash Saidi, Marcus O’Brien, Jeremy Kaiser and more. Last weekend during the BMX Worlds in Cologne, Germany, some of the original Haro team got together for a demo for the crowd. They had Brian Bylther, Mike Dominguez, Ron Wilkerson and Dave Nourie pull out their old school setups and show the kids how it was done back in the day. We had photographer Aaron Zwaal on hand to shoot some photos. The end result was a photogallery that turned out so good that it’s impossible not to love.
