Insight: Frelo Bikes – Unholy Stem

June 8, 2018

Take a closer look at the brand new Unholy Stem from Frelo Bikes!

Frelo Bikes Unholy BMX Stem

When it comes to BMX stems, we see a lot of very similar designs. Not because people aren’t able to come up with something better, but the fact that riders like clean, simple and strong. Why fix what you know already works, right? We’ve seen some pretty unique stems come and go over the years with big cut outs, unique compression systems and more, but you can’t go wrong with the look and reliability of the classic top load stem design.

When it came time for Frelo Bikes to design their first stem, they knew they wanted something that would be clean, but have a few unique touches so it wasn’t just another topload stem. They ended up with their new Unholy Stem that has a few details that help stand out a bit. This stem is Multi-Tiered CNC Machined from 6061-T6 alloy with a 50mm reach and 35mm rise, smooth beveled edges and extra machining to save weight, which is pretty straight forward. What you might not notice right off the bat is that the bolts are missing from the top of the stem. That’s because they’ve gone with a top plate that holds the bars in place with four bolts coming in from the bottom to leave the top with a smooth look and plenty of room for the Frelo Bikes logo.

Another detail you might have noticed from the picture above, is that the top plate also has four small pegs for the bolts to help ensure the stem is aligned properly when threading and to help prevent over tightening and pinching your bars. That alone is a nice added touch that helps it stand out a lot.

Spinning the stem around, you can also find a unique fork clamping area that is offset for a unique look, and a recessed top for a flush compression cap and weight savings.

The Unholy Stem from Frelo Bikes accomplished the goal of creating a BMX stem that mixed the look of a classic Top Load stem with a few unique features to give it their own twist that helps it stand out. Add in the bonus that the stem is also made in the U.S.A., and you have a great option for your bike. You can pick the Unholy Stem up for $60 through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Frelo Bikes or direct from the FRELO BIKES WEBSTORE in Black and Polished now!

The Shadow Conspiracy x Subrosa – “One” Trailer

June 8, 2018

The Shadow Conspiracy and Subrosa brought their team riders together for one big team trip…

Over the years, The Shadow Conspiracy and Subrosa Brand have existed under the same roof down in Florida, but we haven’t seen them do a lot of projects “together” so to speak, they’ve done a good job of keeping the brands separate. That changes with “ONE” which brings the team riders that represent both brands together for a team trip that was bound to produce some serious bangers. Today, we get a look at the trailer and if you aren’t excited to see this on the 4th of July, you’re crazy! Get ready!

“Subrosa Brand and The Shadow Conspiracy present ONE.

The idea of ONE is that each of these riders is as much a part of Subrosa as they are of The Shadow Conspiracy. They are as much individuals as they are a team. Each rider possesses a strong, unique talent and perspective on riding, but when they come together they are one unit.

This project was the result of putting these 6 riders in one place on one trip to create something that truly shows they are a team, but also a family.

ONE is a full-length web video with parts from Subrosa/Shadow riders Kyle Hart, Simone Barraco, Joris Coulomb, Matt Ray, Trey Jones and Mark Burnett. Dropping 7/4/18.

Bike Swap – Ben Wallace & Paul Ryan

June 8, 2018

Ben Wallace and Paul Ryan swap bikes for a session…

Even though Ben Wallace and Paul Ryan both ride for Mongoose, that’s about where the similarities on their bike setups end. Ben runs a longer bike with brakes, some seat post and plenty of room for his height, geared toward ramps and trails. Paul runs a tighter setup with no brakes, a little slack in the chain and is geared toward street. These two guys swapped bikes for a session and needless to say, it was pretty funny watching them try to adjust to the different setups. Even though it was weird, it looks like they had little trouble getting some clips!

“It’s crazy how different someone else’s can bike feel even with subtle differences in geometry–let alone an entirely different setup style. With the Mongoose Jam 2018 at Woodward in full swing, Paul Ryan and Ben Wallace had some fun with their warm up session by swapping bikes for a bit. Their bikes couldn’t be much more different—and Paul’s bike is like half the size of Ben’s—but they adjusted almost immediately and started to shred.

You can’t go wrong with the summer sessions at the local park. Here’s a new one that Par BMX uploaded from a productive session Janis Bauska and Marek Kuhalskis got in during a session at the Kuldiga Skatepark on a sunny day. This is pretty laid back, but the guys produced some great clips.

“ONE HOT SUMMER DAY WITH LONG JOHN BAUSKA AND LIL YUNG MAREK! Both dudes shred the Kuldīga skatepark in Latvia.

T-Shirt Weather

June 8, 2018

The weather in Glasgow has been heating up!

Here’s a video that Luc Lynch-Rice put together from some of the sessions he has been getting in with Thomas Roulston, Guy Scroggie and Craig Sime while out cruising spots around Glasgow, Scotland now that the weather is nice and warm once again. This has a pretty chill vibe and is filled with lines and jibs from ledges and rails to treats, curb cuts and more. Take a look!
