August 15, 2013

One guy who has been making waves on the streets and really anything he comes across from the U.K the past few years has been Pete Sawyer. Over the course of the past year or so, things have really taken off with getting bumped up to the Wethepeople Pro team along with being given his own signature line of products to his latest deal with Merritt, things have definitely made it so we’ve been able to see way more of Pete and it’s been awesome. With all these good things going for the guy and the release of his signature Sterling line dropping soon, we figured it would be a good time to get ahold of the guy to find out a little bit more about him. Let’s take a look at what he had to say!

Insight: Volume Bikes 2014 Complete Bikes

August 13, 2013

Daniel “Lil’ D” Martinez with the Infantry Complete.

The other day we got a look at the all new 2014 completes from Volume Bikes in a flipbook and promo video that they released. Going through looking at all of the specs and everything, I was pretty blown away by what Volume had produced for these 2014 bikes. I was also pretty blown away when I realized how many years it has been since they have actually offered complete bikes.
I got talking with Brian Castillo about the bikes and I figured it would be awesome to let everyone in on what went into making these bikes, why they decided to step away from doing completes for so long and what got them interested in doing them again! We ended up doing this interview so you guys could get the full scoop on what makes these bikes unique along with a closer with a bunch of photos. Let’s get into this!

Jay Wilson Interview

August 8, 2013

In a BMX world that has been trending into a lot of jibby grinds and freecoaster riding, there’s still a handful of riders that are out there absolutely sending their selves doing their own thing. One of those dudes, who I’ve always been really stoked on, is Bone Deth‘s Australian connect, Jay Wilson. Over the past few years Jay has had a few video parts and web edits that dropped that were loaded with some really gnarly riding. It has been a little while since I’ve seen something from Jay, so I figured it would be a good time to try and track this guy down and find out what he’s all about and what’s new. This is what he had to say! Enjoy!

Through The Lens: Quick Chat with Jeremiah Smith

August 7, 2013

Jeremiah Smith BMX

Jeremiah Smith is one of those riders that has been putting in work year after year and it’s finally been paying off. He has a major bike sponsor, travels on a pretty consistent basis, rides exactly how he wants to ride, and just recently finished on the podium at X Games in Los Angeles. He ended up in third, right behind Garrett Reynolds and amongst the top street riders in the world. It’s not every day that you get to line up with nine of the best riders in the world on live T.V. but he’s no stranger to laying it down when it counts. He’s the type of person that knows what he wants, and does what he wants. He has his daily routine pretty dialed and rides more than most people that I know. I caught up with him as soon as he got back from the X Games to talk a little bit about riding, life and the future. Keep on reading to find out what he does in his downtime, where he plans on moving someday and what projects he’s currently working on.

Through The Lens – Fact Check with Mark Mulville

July 31, 2013

Mark Mulville BMX

This week’s column happened as organically as any. It was one of those things where I was waiting until the last minute to see what happens and luckily I recently ran into one of my good friends Mark Mulville and decided to sit him down and get him to share some facts about himself with the BMX world. We spent some time in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania chillin, getting some coffee and putting this piece together. It’s always a good time running into old friends and in true “TTL” fashion, I had no idea what I was going to do for #76 until yesterday. It wouldn’t really feel right if I didn’t wait until the last minute to commit to a column and every time it makes me realize how hard it can be to keep up on this series week after week. On that note, Mark has been killing it lately… traveling, filming, enjoying life and sharing positive vibes along the way. Take a minute to learn about one of the best riders out there and find out a few things about Mark that I can guarantee that you didn’t already know and enjoy the first-edition of “Fact Check.”

Through The Lens – In the Moment: Ben Hucke

July 24, 2013

Ben Hucke BMX

Well, this one is kind of an important column for me. Not only is it number 75, but it’s a piece that I was really stoked to share. Ben Hucke has been someone that I have enjoyed hanging with, shooting with and riding with for years now. He’s got a unique style, does things his own way and has a positive mindset on the regular. He has taken his own path in life, lives each day like it’s his last and truly understands how awesome BMX is. One of the few people who really get it and one of the few who will leave his mark within the riding world. He’s constantly busy raising his son, filming, shooting and working on multiple projects to keep his sponsors happy. His hustle is something that I can respect and on that note, here’s to number 75. It’s been a wild ride and I really appreciate every single person out there that has taken the time to read my column, share my column or just simply enjoy my column. When I get reminded of the fact that there are people out there that look forward to each piece I feel truly grateful to have had this opportunity. Thanks to Kurt, thanks to you, the readers, and thanks to BMX for shaping me into the person that I am today. On that note, let’s learn a little bit about Ben Hucke and show some respect to someone who’s in it for the right reasons.

Insight: Subrosa “Get Used To It”

July 23, 2013

Simone_600x

Over the years, a lot of videos have come and gone. Some better than others, some based off week long trips and some based around a few years of hard work and effort. The Subrosa “Get Used To It” video is one of those that falls into the categories of better than others and a few years of hard work.

There are a lot of things that go into making a BMX DVD these days and I think at times with how fast the internet works, a lot of people seem to forget that things they’re seeing could have been years of work cut down into a 40 minute video that you can just pop in and watch before heading out for a session.

We figured with “Get Used To It” being out for a little while now, it would be a good time to catch up with Ryan Sher and talk a little bit about what actually went into creating this video that has been getting a lot of good reviews since its release. You better believe with nearly 3 years of time, effort, broken cameras, team changes, filmer changes, flights, blood, awesome spots, amazing riding and good times, that there’s a story behind it. Let’s see what went into this one!

Brandon Webster Interview

It’s crazy how many damn good riders are coming out of Canada lately. Not to say that hasn’t happened in the past, but it just seems like there’s been a whole new round of guys that have been on fire lately. One of those guys would be Brandon Webster who has been lighting up the internet with video after video of him just crushing spots from Joyride 150 to Austin, Texas.
It’s no surprise he recently found bumped up to a spot on the Hoffman Bikes pro team, so we figured it would be a real good time to get to know just who this kid from Canada is since I can imagine we’ll be seeing plenty more of him in the future! Check out what he had to say!
