Tanner Nelson Interview

August 14, 2012

Photo: Justin Kosman

Flash back a couple years ago. It was my second Interbike and for some reason I decided to only book a flight and see if I could just find a place to crash to save some money. One thing lead to another and all the sudden I’m crashing in this dude’s parents time share a ways off the strip. At the time, I had no idea who this guy was other than he was hilarious and rode BMX. It’s always pretty cool how things work out if you just don’t plan anything. But yeah, in the end I had a place to stay and I was able to meet Tanner Nelson for the first time. Since then, Tanner has gone on to get a pretty solid reputation in BMX with his web videos that are always loaded with goodness and his ridiculous Twitter account. After taking a little time away from BMX due to some health issues, he recently re-joined The Take‘s team with some refreshed energy. We decided to catch up with one of the masters of the Griz Air to find out where he went and what’s new. Let’s see what he had to say!

Photos: Vincent Perraud

August 9, 2012

Photos by: Hadrien Picard, Lili and Fabrice Lebegue

I met Vincent Perraud for the first time at Mark Potoczny’s trails in the middle of no where Pennsylvania at the last Welcome Jam. I had seen some of his work prior to meeting him, so I was really stoked to cross paths with him and talk for a while. That was about two years ago now. Since then, Vincent’s photos have progressed and continue to get better and better. His name has appeared pretty regularly in all the bigger magazines and through covers, features and print ads. There’s also been a ton of photos that end up being used online as well. The other week, I saw one of the best cover photos ever that Vincent shot. I started thinking it had been too long since we caught up. We decided it would be a good time to drop an interview with him along with a fresh photogallery that is a must see! Check out the full interview below and check out the photogallery right here. Don’t forget to leave Vince some love in the comments too!

Scott Yoquelet Interview

July 22, 2012

BMX
Interviewed by Rich Hoppe
Photos: Steve Crandall , Rich Hoppe, Tom Izor, and a random people from through-out time..

I was to be asked by Jeremy Ball to interview Scott Yoquelet for The Union and I immediately was stoked as all get out! I have spent most of my life with Scotty, be it while riding a bike or doing anything else. Over the years, Scott has been my business partner, traveling partner, and one of the oldest and coolest friends a guy could ask for. We grew up together in Fort Wayne, Indiana we would always tear up the local spots together with our crew. Now, as the years have passed, we have became part of the “old man posse,” and I am here to tell you that as we have gotten older, neither of us have slowed on our riding.
The reason that I am telling you this is that I have been a first hand witness to Scotty’s BMX career and am here to pass on what I have seen to you, so you can enjoy the good times we shared too.
For those of you who haven’t ever had the opportunity to see Scott ride his bike, I can tell you that he is one of the most talented, cleanest, and smoothest dudes you will ever see on a 20”. Scotty has put his stamp on the sport, and has influenced too many people to count. This interview is a touch long, but keep in mind that I had to narrow down over 30 years of BMX through the mind of Scott Yoquelet!

Quicky: Karl Poynter

July 16, 2012

Over the past few years, there has been quite a bit of talk about a freecoaster that Karl Poynter had been working on. The project has been through it all with sponsor changes and design changes, but it has slowly come together and it becoming available is near. The other day, I spotted news that Karl’s freecoaster would finally be available in the next few months which is a good sign. I figured it was a perfect opportunity to catch up with him to find out what’s new and try to get a few words about the hub out of him since he’s been pretty tight lipped about it from the start. Let’s see what he had to say!

Eric Bahlman Interview

July 6, 2012

Photo: Erik Hilburn

About a year ago, Ryan Chadwick told me that Simone Barraco was going to be blowing up. I saw the potential at the time and now, a year later, it’s very obvious that Simone is taking over. A few months back, Ryan had told me that Eric would be blowing up as well. Since then, it really hasn’t been all that hard to see that he’s right because there’s been a handful of edits popping up lately where Eric has absolutely killed it. It’s clear that Eric has a lot of fun with his riding and now that he has been killing it on a freecoaster, I think his riding has stood out even more. Since I’ve been getting more and more curious of what this dude is all about, we decided to see if he would be into doing an interview. Luckily, he was in and now I’m stoked to let you get to know the guy that’s definitely going to be getting things done backwards here for a while….

Insight: Mutiny Cinch Cranks

July 3, 2012

All photos: Cody Nutter
Note: Cranks in photos are RHD, but Gaz is running them LHD. That’s why it looks backwards.

The past few weeks, Mutiny have been dropping some sneak peeks of their new products that will be dropping in a few months. I’ve been keeping a close eye on what they have cooking and the other week I got a glimpse of something that really caught my attention; their new cranks. I got ahold of the man in charge over at Mutiny, Gaz Sanders, to talk about these new two-piece cranks that they will be releasing soon. The Cinch cranks really have a unique shape and overall design to them, so I’m excited to give you guys a closer look at ’em. Check out this interview with Gaz about the whole process of creating the cranks from start to finish along with some shots of the final production samples…

Videos: Jack Birtles

July 2, 2012

Jack Birtles

If you happened to catch that really good Tom Stretton edit that we premiered last week, you would have seen that we mentioned that we would be dropping an interview with the man behind the lens for that one. Jack has been doing a damn good job of making edits look good over the last few years and I decided it was time to get ahold of him and find out more about who is behind the lens. It’s clear that he’s doing things right and I’m stoked to introduce you to him. Let’s get into this!

Mike Brennan Interview

June 25, 2012

Mike Brennan

Normally, I can start an intro for an interview explaining why the person was deserving of an interview. However, Mike has clearly proven himself time and time again over the years through his video parts and edits and that’s not really neccesary. So I’m going to tell you a funny story that Mike doesn’t even know about. A few years back I was flying home from Interbike from Las Vegas to Minneapolis. As I’m sitting there, I look over and I see Mike sitting there a few seats over waiting for boarding. I’m absolutely blown away and not even sure what to do. I ended up being so blown away that I couldn’t get myself to say what’s up to him. Sure enough for that 3 hour flight back to Minneapolis, sitting 3 rows back from him on the plane, I’m kicking myself for not introducing myself.
Flash forward and these days I’m fortunate enough to talk to Mike on a regular basis about the happenings at Animal and work on different projects with the brand and team with him. It’s kind of funny how things like that happen and I’ll admit I still get a little nervous meeting pros like him. Now today, I’m stoked to be able to drop this interview with him to let you guys get to know him a little better! Check out what he had to say.
