Drew Bezanson Interview

There’s no doubt that if you found this interview with Drew, you have seen his recent edits or him killing it somewhere. If not, well, they’re at the bottom. Since Drew won Simpel Session he has been a hot commodity. With his The Come Up interview that dropped yesterday, we almost decided to scrap the interview. Drew and I decided there were some differences and we would go ahead and post it anyways. So here are some more questions for Drew to fill in the blanks for!

Name: Drew Karl Lewis Bezanson

Location: Truro, Nova Scotia. Canada.

Sponsors: DK Bicycles, DC Shoes, Fox Rider Co, Skull Candy, The Shadow Conspiracy, POC Helmets and Ryder Distribution.

Years riding: Ten this year.

What got you into BMX in the first place? Any early memories come to mind?
When I was a little kid I just wanted to race motocross. I would jump my bike and pretend it was a dirt-bike. Then when I was in the sixth grade my friend invited me the to skatepark. I have been hooked ever since. Early memories are just riding morning till night with my friends. Then can’t stop waiting to do it again the next day.

How is everything going with Ryder these days? Any big news, trip,s videos, or anything like that going on?

-Everything is going great with Ryder. I couldn’t be more psyched on John and Sue at Ryder. They help me out as much as possible, big thanks to them. No real news just hope to hang out there a bunch and ride.

What’s going on with you and DK these days? Anything going on there?
I will be riding another year with DK and couldn’t be more happy. Everyone at DK is awesome and hopefully lots of fun in store.

How about at Shadow Conspiracy?
Still rocking with Shadow.

And finally, Skullcandy, Fox, POC and DC? Anything there?
Fox and Skull Candy are new for me this year. Super psyched to be apart of both those teams. Both there teams are insane and to be apart of them is an honor. Don’t forget DC though, will be rocking there kicks.

So obviously the big news is you winning Simpel Session 10. How crazy was that for you? Did you even consider being the guy winning it when you left for the trip?
It was amazing, I still can’t believe it. It was such a fun contest. Before leaving I didn’t really have any expectations. Being the first contest of the year and all. I just wanted to do well.

I’d imagine I’ll be seeing you at the Toronto BMX Jam to party with myself and everyone else? Planning on killing that as well?
Yes sir, I’ll be there. Planning on having fun on little kids bikes.

It seems like people have been using the “Drew is causing problems in BMX” line lately. How funny is it that you are able to cause a stir like that these days?
It’s pretty funny, It’s just crazy because I never pictured myself being where I am today. I’m very fortunate to be where I’m at.

Speaking of causing a stir… Your recent web videos have been insane to say the least. Have you been working on any new edits lately?
I have another web video that has been done for the last month just wait for it to be hosted. Hopefully be able to do more filming this year. Big shout out to Charlie Crumlish for filming and editing.

How pissed was Ryder when their ramps collapsed and spontaneously combusted after the shock of you riding them happened?
Ha ha, John was livid. Nothing but bread and water the rest of the time I was there. lol

It’s getting close to the “season” kicking off with contests and everything going on all the time. Do you plan on making it to the Dew Tour and other contests this year?
Yes, I plan on hitting all the contest this year. Should be a lot of fun.

How about just trips for other things. Going anywhere that you are looking forward to?
I don’t have anything planned at the moment. I’m always looking forward to going somewhere new though.

A lot of people say that with every session you just get better than before. Do you feel like you’re able to progress faster that a regular human, or is it just natural for you?
ha ha What would be considered a regular human these days? Does anyone even know? I just enjoy riding and doing new stuff on my bike. Sometimes I learn stuff quick other time I have to work for it. Just depends what it is.

Where do you think up half the tricks you do in the recent web edits? Is it just somebody jokingly says something and then boom, you do it?
I don’t know. Some of the tricks I’ve been wanting to do just never had that little motivation to do them. As for the rest of them I just kinda go with the flow or people make suggestions.

Not only do you destroy ramps, but you’re pretty dialed on street and really anything you touch. Where are you usually riding these days other than the Ryder warehouse?
I’ve just been riding the indoor parks around Ontario. The Canadian winters keep us inside for the most part. Been riding the new Indoor bike park in Markham called Joyride 150. It’s like the Canadian version of Rays, super fun. Looking forward to riding more street when the snow melts.

Who’s your usual crew you ride with these days? Any up and comers you think people should look out for?
I just ride with my friends and anyone who wants to ride. There are some shredders, Toronto BMX jam will probably bring a few out.

Is there anywhere you haven’t been yet that you would really like to go?
All kinds of places. Just anywhere over seas and I haven’t been to California or Texas. I really want to visit both of those places this year.

What’s the first memory of something ridiculous that happened while Catfish was with you?
I don’t even know ha ha. There has been a lot. Every time you hang out with him something always is bound to happen, its awesome.

Have you been getting laid more frequently because your BMX fame lately?
Ha ha, I got a lady.

What do you think you would be doing now days if you never got into BMX?
I have no idea. I wish I had a crystal ball I could look into and see the ”what ifs”

What are you up to when you aren’t causing problems in BMX for everyone else?
Just chillin with my friends and family, I like to snowboard, ride motoross, skateboarding and surf when I get the opportunity.

Are you working or going to school at all? Or is it just full-time shred?
At the moment just riding full time. Its a dream come true.

So you’re pretty dialed on dirt bikes too right? Did you get into that before BMX or how did that all happen?
I love moto. I grew up racing Motocross when I was little. It just got way to expensive and I was getting more into BMX. Hopefully I can get another one soon to ride in my spare time.

What’s something you aren’t really good at?
Paying attention, I just get bored or start thinking of other things. School was a tough one for me.

Yeah, A.D.D!
How about something you are good at that people don’t know about?
I’m good with numbers. I can shred Su do ku’s and stuff like that.

Who or what are some of the influences in your life?
My Mom and Dad have definitely been the biggest influence in my life. The rest of my family and close friends have been a huge influence too. Can’t thank them enough.

Have you ever been in a fight or arrested for anything?
Nope. Like to stay away from both of those.

If Canada decided that you weren’t allowed to live there anymore because of you making them look crazy. Where would you move and why?
Ha ha, somewhere that excepted me then. I don’t know where I would move. Probably somewhere warm.

What’s the last song you listened to, movie you watched, and website you visited?
song- Ghosts N stuff by Deadmau5 ft. Rob Swire. Movie- Cloudy with a Chance of Meat Balls on the plane. Website- Facebook.

I’d imagine being on DK requires you to have a laser. Is this true?
Number one requirement.

Does that mean I’m on the team? Where the hell’s my contract?

What’s the craziest thing that has ever happened to you that nobody would believe?
Umm, probably just the whole story about a car accident I was in.

Where do you see yourself in a few years?
Hopefully doing what I’m doing now. Enjoying life, riding bikes and just chillen.

After you are done answering all these questions, what are you going to do with your life?
Sleep, it’s 4:25 in the damn morning.

What’s the best advice you have ever been given or can give?
Everything is what you make of it. Do what makes you happy.

Do you have any shout outs or thanks?
Yeah for sure. I would like to thank all my sponsors, I can’t thank you guys enough. Allowing me to live my dream. I would like to give a big thanks my family, friends, my lady and the big guy in the sky.

Anything else you want to say?
Ridaz!
