Help Build a Permanent BMX Park in Santa Cruz

Our friend, Andy Maguire, just hit us up with a link that we could use your help with! They’re currently trying to rally up 5,000 signatures on a petition to get the city of Santa Cruz to stop giving them the run around and build a permanent BMX park. You can sign the petition RIGHT HERE and we would GREATLY appreciate everyone who could help share this by hitting that “Like” button up top or sharing the link! Even if you won’t ever make it to Santa Cruz (hell, I don’t even know if I will!), at least you know you helped get BMX a proper home in that city! Get on it!

Here’s a little more info…

Basically it’s to help get a permanent bike park going in Santa Cruz. The park we have right now requires constant maintenance since the ramps are over 13 years old and are corroded by the fog and ocean air. The city is sluggish to make repairs because it is still considered a “temporary” structure. This means there is no clear future for the park, and it can get torn down easily. It also means it is hard to justify putting in money for something that doesn’t have a clear future. There are 4 skateparks in our small town of 50,000, none of which allow bikes. The city has been building small pump tracks, which you can probably guess is a feeble way to appease the bike riding community. The riders take great pride in the park, from city council meetings, working with local developers, moving the park to a new location, and finally taking on the maintenance/repair work themselves. I would really appreciate you posting this link, because the bmx community as a whole is an amazing, dynamic, and supportive group of individuals. And who wouldn’t want another place to shred? Thanks!” – Andy Maguire
