Anyone that has seen Jeff Klugiewicz’s Twitter / Instagram lately knows that he has been killing himself over getting his new DVD project for The Level Below called “Chick’n Nugg’t” edited in time for the premiere that’s going down in Milwaukee tomorrow night. I’m planning on making the drive out for the premiere and party. Making a trip to Milwaukee is always a good time and I’m real stoked to see what this video is all about. I decided to hit up Jeff and have him take a break from staring at the “rendering” bar to talk a little bit about the video that will be available on DVD in January. Let’s check out what he had to say!
Starting things out, I guess we should probably have you explain to everyone what the hell a Chick’n Nugg’t is. I don’t think too many people know what that is.
Haha, Yeah, I guess thats a good place to start. A Chicken Nugget is when you are hopping a rail, ledge, or pretty much anything and accidentally bonk both your front and back tire on whatever it is your hoping. Even though the term started because we were doing it on accident, some of us do them on purpose which is even crazier!
When did you decide you wanted to do this mixtape? Has it been a long time coming or did it just kind of happen?
Well, if you didn’t know I’ve made a decent amount of edits, but have never put out a dvd so at the beginning of the summer I decided that I really wanted to make that a reality, and it has been a blast!
How long have you guys been filming for this one?
Id say since the beginning of 2012.
I know I saw you were out in Portland for a little while, so I’d imagine you were busy stacking clips out there. Where all have you guys gone for this one?
Most of it is from the Midwest area, but theres also stuff from Portland, Tulsa, Cali, FL, Pittsburg, and probably a few other spots.
Who all picked up the camera to film for this one? I’d imagine Logan, Grant and Rob were all down to hit record.
Yeah, they were all really helpful and I appreciate them all greatly! Besides them there was Anthony Malvasio, Damian Racut, Charles, and a few more! Thanx again to everyone who helped!
Will the video have full parts from people or is it just going to be mix sections from the trips you guys took?
There will be short parts from the people shown in the trailer along with Mix sections with a lot of other homies!
Care to list off some names of the people in the video? It’s a pretty stacked line up if I am remembering from the trailer.
I’ll list of what I can remember! Jeff Dowhen, Anthony Malvasio, Rob DiQuattro, Dylon Mccauley, Grant Castelluzzo, Damian Racut, Mike Hinkens, August Zeratsky, Reed Stark, Brian Kachinsky, Andrew Kuntz, Jon Wells, Nirve, and a bunch more!
Who do you feel put the most work into this as far as riding goes?
Everyone pushed themselves and I’m excited to show it!
Mike Hinkens
Anyone in particular you think people will really be surprised by?
Anthony Malvasio and Jeff Dowhen both filmed so much good stuff, they are both very underrated bike riders so I feel there stuff will be a pleasent surprise!
Is the video going to be all street or will there be some 4Seasons and some other parks mixed in as well?
It is all street with a few Estabrook pics thrown in the mix, but that place isn’t really a skatepark anyways.
It looks like you still have quite a bit of editing left to do. Any idea how long it’ll probably end up being?
Yeah, I have a lot left to do, it is real scary, some nights it keeps me up thinking “What the fuck did I get myself into”. I am hoping it will be around the 25min mark w/ a bunch of bonus tossed in!
Note: We did this interview about a week before this, so have no fear… Jeff K. is going to have it done in time.
August Zeratsky
You have always been pretty particular about the music you have used for things in the past. How has picking out music for this been going? Any hints as to what to expect there?
It’s been a mess, thanks to Damian for helping me out with music! He’s always sending me tracks, and if your a editor you know thats a big help!
You guys have a premiere party lined up for December 22nd, right? What’s the plan for that?
PARTY PARTY PARTY! I’m putting it out right around the time of Jeff Dowhens Graduation and its also Mine, Jon Wells, Edson Nieves split birthday PARTY! It’s going to be such a fun night! Check the site (The Level Below) or our FB page for more info on that!
Will there be copies of the video available on DVD or is this going straight to the web after?
It will be a DVD and i hope to have copies sometime in January!
On a scale of 1 to “need this in my life”… How good is this video going to be?
I’d say on that scale I’d put it in the “I need this in my AFTERLIFE!”.
Anthony Malvasio
Is there anything I missed that you want to say?
I guess just stop taking BMX so seriously, theres so many things in bmx besides progression, that shit is awesome as well. But focus more on the small picture, the day to day session with your friends! I’d also like to say thanks to all the homies, everyone that has helped or supported me in anyway! I love all you guys!
