Here’s an interesting story NBC news did on an interesting connection between bikes and kids with ADHD. They took a look at a school that has been studying the effects of riding bikes and their attention in school, and they’re seeing some really good results based on actual tests. I think it’s safe to say that a number of us who have been riding BMX for years have seen the positive effects of riding whether it’s BMX or any other style of bike. Riding is more than just something to do for fun. It’s a great stress reducer, it is a great work out and it’s a something that can really help you focus. Growing up, for me personally, I’ve always had issues with concentration and focusing on things, but I’ve never been diagnosed or prescribed anything. I’m confident in saying being active has helped keep me going. It’s when I don’t have anything going on or just not being active enough that I really see my levels of focus really start to struggle.
Hopefully this really picks up some steam and more studies and results can be produced. This could be great for not only the BMX and cycling industries as a whole, but a good way to reduce dependance on unnecessary medications that are really weighing kids down.
“Nearly six million children in the United States have been diagnosed as having attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD. Many parents worry about the medications often prescribed to help the kids, what they might not know is that, help may be as close as their garage. TODAY’s Harry Smith reports.”
