Austin, Texas 2015

October 9, 2015

There’s no denying that a trip to Austin, Texas is always a good idea. A little while back Colin Thiessen, along with Safe Nath, Dan Cook, Jeff Wiebe, Dan Loeppky and Charles Darroch, made a trip down to the ATX from Canada where they rented out a house and spent some time cruising spots all over the place. Check out this video giving you a look at what they filmed while they were there. Looks like it was a good time to us!

XSA Invitational 2015 – 1st Practice

October 8, 2015

The XSA Invitational is going down in Sochi, Russia this weekend and it looks like they have a super dialed course designed for the street and park guys to throw down on. Today was the first day of practice and it looks like plenty of Russia’s finest were on the course to figure out warm up. Check out a bunch of highlights in this BMX video! Trek Rizaev is CRUSHING that place.

“Kevin Peraza, Pat Casey, Larry Edgar, Catfish, and myself are on top of a mountain in Sochi, Russia, overlooking the city at a hotel made for the 2014 Olympics. To say it’s a bit different than normal would be a massive understatement.

We’re here to be a part of the XSA Invitational, a now yearly event based around the F1 racing event here in Sochi. Set in the middle of the mayhem, the scene at the event is a clash between BMX and some sort of futuristic eutopia produced by Russia for the Olympics. The sunset when I showed up didn’t hurt either…

Shout out to Valentine Shmayunov to filming most of the day and hooking up the footage…we showed up way too late to make a proper video on our own. Thanks dude!

Zack Warden’s Figure 8 Trail Jam

October 8, 2015

Zack Warden’s Figure 8 Trail Jam – More BMX Videos

There’s a lot of unheard of trails that have been going for quite some time and the Figure 8 is one of St. Louis’ best kept secrets. Check out this video from the big jam Zack Warden threw to help raise money for the play! Big turn out and some great riding.

“THE SPOT
Figure 8 is a dirt jumping spot in St. Louis, Missouri that has been running for nearly twenty years. It’s ran as a non-profit organization under the city’s blessing. Figure 8 features something for every level of rider, from beginner to pro. It’s an awesome place.
THE JAM
Every year, there’s a jam at Figure 8 to raise funds to keep the trails rollin’. The money goes toward everything from shovels, to watering equipment, to bobcat maintenance. Zack Warden took charge of the jam for 2015 and had support from his sponsors – Hoffman, Fox, and Monster – to make it happen.
JTM AWARD
The JTM (short for Jimmy Turner Memorial) award is a tribute to Jimmy Turner – a St. Louis-based rider who passed away in 2011. Jimmy was a beast who went full throttle at absolutely everything he did. If you look back at footage of him riding, you’ll see his skills were far ahead of his time. The JTM award goes to the rider who most embodies what Jimmy was all about. 19-year-old Landon Gideon took home the honor and the prize pack that went along with it.
VITAL BMX BEST TRICK AWARD
I threw down $100 for a completely impromptu best trick jam. Zack Warden landed a perfect 360 bikeflip and took the win. However, Zack – being the gentleman that he is – refused to keep the prize money and passed it onto Alex Rode, who landed numerous bangers in the jam.
FUN
If you’re ever in St. Louis, stop by Figure 8 for a session. The address is 4300 Hoffmeister Ave. Bring your helmet and be ready for a good time.

Monster – The Ramp II: Scotty Cramer – Teaser

October 8, 2015

Two from Scotty Cranmer today! It looks like Scotty has been working with Ride BMX on a new product for Monster Energy where he takes a little kicker and uses it to create some interesting setups. Above is the teaser with the full BMX video dropping in 12 days! Take a look and get excited.

“Rules are not what BMX is about. And, when you begin to subscribe to an idea that you’re supposed to do this or that while riding your bike, you’re missing the whole idea…

In the July 2009 issue of the magazine we introduced The Ramp. It was an article that took us two years to make, as we passively ticked away at sending it around the country to various people. Jimmy Levan did a wallride over a nine foot barb’d wire fence to flat, Garrett Byrnes jumped a Ferrari, Dave Osato did a tailwhip nosepick on a barrier, and Craig Mast attempted to jump a 50 foot creek. It was an entertaining article, we thought. It was different, yet inherently BMX at the same time. After all, a board laid on a block was, for a long time, most people’s first introduction to launching into the air. It was the first ramp and still remains the simplest to make. But, as parks get placed in every neighborhood, the idea of a block and board has seemingly been forgotten. And further, as a whole, we’ve become so institutionalized that the idea of building a ramp and jumping something out in the streets taboo. Straightforward feelings: fuck that. So, after some thought, we decided to bring the ramp back for another go for a six part series that we’ll be introducing over the next year. First up, the legendary Scotty Cranmer breaks the seal on the newly revised ramp.
