With just a few days until the 4th of July and the Salute to the 4th BMX Contest that we’re helping to throw at Silverlake Skatepark here in Rochester, Minnesota. We have a bunch of prizes showing up on the doorstep to give away for some of the winners of the contest. Our friends over at Fly Bikes were more than gracious enough to hook us up with one of their 2015 Proton complete bikes to give away to one of the winners of the contest, so we wanted to take a minute to give you a closer look at this bike as a thank you, and because let’s be real… It’s one dialed BMX bike! Above you can find a quick time-lapse we put together from building up the bike which took only about 15 minutes start to finish. After you make the jump we’ll give you the full specs and some close up photos giving you a better look at this bike! Ready? Let’s do this!

Shea Nyquist and the Double Tall BMX Bike
Shea Nyquist is one of those guys who has fabricated some crazy shit in his day. We’ve seen a few things from him, like the Tall BMX Bike Jousting with one of these double tall BMX bikes before, but today John Saxton uploaded this old footage of him trying, and succeeding, in riding it at the Unit in Greenville! We can only imagine how hard it is to drop in on that thing let alone do an icepick stall! Oh yeah, we’re definitely counting that!

Product: Proper Bike Co. – Select Front Hub

To go along with their new Select Male Freecoaster Hub, the guys over at Proper Bike Co. have released their new Select Female front hub. Like the freecoaster, we wanted to know all about this new hub, so we got ahold of Jamie Cameron to get the scoop. This hub starts out with a 6061 alloy shell that has a very smooth look with thicker flanges to give it a stiffer feel. Inside you can find two 6902 sealed bearings and a chromoly female axle with 17mm chromoly bolts with 6mm broaches and 7075 cones to keep it all tight. The Select Female hub is available in black, polished and oil slick color options and there is also an optional Ultramid® Nylon hub guard that replaces the hardware and protects you hub from wear and tear.
This hub is available now through BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Proper Bike Co. worldwide.

Product: Proper Bike Co. – Select Freecoaster Hub

The other day we were cruising around on Instagram and we came across a photo of a new freecoaster hub from Proper Bike Co. that they just released. We were curious if there was anything special about this hub or if it was just another “clone” of the other options available. So, we got ahold of Proper to find out just what the story is.
Although this hub uses the traditional KHE internals that a lot of the other freecoaster hubs out there use, they did do their research to ensure quality, so they created their own 6061 shell with high quality 6002 bearings, custom designed 7075 cones, a 155mm long, 14mm heat-treated chromoly male axle, 17mm chromoly axle bolts with a 6mm broach and a 9-tooth chromoly driver that is available in right or left side drive with colors of black, polished and oil slick. There is also an optional non-drive hub guard made from Ultramid® Nylon that replaces the hardware to prevent spending of your frame. Below you can find a full explanation from Jamie Cameron about this hub.
Martyn Ashton – Back On Track
No, this doesn’t have anything to do with BMX, but we have always been big fans of Martyn Ashton from his Road Bike Party videos before he was paralyzed in a crash from the waist down. Obviously being paralyzed can cause a pretty hefty dilemma when it comes to riding a bike of any form, that didn’t keep him from finding a way to enjoy two wheels once again. Check out this video featuring him taking a lap down a mountain bike track with the help of a few friends. It’s pretty amazing seeing him doing this since, as many would assume, it’s pretty “impossible” for paralyzed people to be riding mountain bikes or two wheeled bikes in general. Based off the smile on his face for the entire run down the hill, you will have a hard time not enjoying every second of this as well. Hit play and enjoy!
Hell yeah, Martyn! We’re stoked on this!
