Scott Yoquelet Interview
Interviewed by Rich Hoppe
Photos: Steve Crandall , Rich Hoppe, Tom Izor, and a random people from through-out time..
I was to be asked by Jeremy Ball to interview Scott Yoquelet for The Union and I immediately was stoked as all get out! I have spent most of my life with Scotty, be it while riding a bike or doing anything else. Over the years, Scott has been my business partner, traveling partner, and one of the oldest and coolest friends a guy could ask for. We grew up together in Fort Wayne, Indiana we would always tear up the local spots together with our crew. Now, as the years have passed, we have became part of the “old man posse,” and I am here to tell you that as we have gotten older, neither of us have slowed on our riding.
The reason that I am telling you this is that I have been a first hand witness to Scotty’s BMX career and am here to pass on what I have seen to you, so you can enjoy the good times we shared too.
For those of you who haven’t ever had the opportunity to see Scott ride his bike, I can tell you that he is one of the most talented, cleanest, and smoothest dudes you will ever see on a 20”. Scotty has put his stamp on the sport, and has influenced too many people to count. This interview is a touch long, but keep in mind that I had to narrow down over 30 years of BMX through the mind of Scott Yoquelet!

Hangover: 6/17 – 6/24
Over the last few months, I spent some time compiling weekly lists of the top BMX videos to drop for Network A. It was a good opportunity for me to go back and review all of the videos that dropped each week.
I’m not sure if you are aware of it, but the Daily Section gets updated a few times a day which generally ends up being around 30 new posts with the latest videos, products, news and what not every single day. In a given week, there are around 210 new posts (probably a lot more than that actually) which means one thing… A lot of really good videos get missed since I highly doubt you are spending as much time as I am going through all the new stuff popping up. I hope not at least.
Since the job with Network A ended (two months longer than originally planned), I’ve been thinking it would be cool to do a recap of my own each week to give some shine to the videos that turned out awesome and were quickly buried under all the new posts. So, here we have it. The first round of Hangover, a look back at the wild party we call a week. This should become the new Sunday tradition, so let’s give this a go!

Insight: Animal PYN Hub Guard
A few weeks back, Animal had released their new PYN hub guard to the public. Over the last few years, a number of hub guards have become available from pretty much every brand with versions being as simple as slipping it on your axle, to ones that fit your drive side, all the way to ones that work completely off compression and remove your hardware completely. Animal took a slightly different route with their guard and took what they knew and liked and created something that definitely gets the job done properly. I recently picked one of these PYN guards up to give a go and decided it would be a good idea to give you guys a closer look at what makes this one stand out. I also stepped it up a bit more and got a Q&A going with Animal’s pro team rider, Mike Brennan and product designers Frank Lam and Jay about the process it took to create the guard. I don’t think you could get any more detail going on this one, so check it!

Dirt Ron Bike Check
Intro by Kurt Hohberger
Photos and Q&A by Jeremy Pavia
There’s no doubt that Dirt Ron is what we like to call “unique”. Ron is the kind of guy who doesn’t follow the typical scheme of setup or riding that you can find popping up online most days. I mean, how many people do you see running only a front brake and do candy bars more than actual barspins? Being different isn’t bad, in fact, that’s what I love about the guy! I’ve never experienced a bad moment being in his presence and I’m sure there’s a lot of other people who can say the same.
Back in March we were given the privilege to announce that Ron had been added to the Bone Deth team, which was more than a perfect fit for him. Recently, Jeremy spent some time with him and they decided to see how his new setup is treating him. So let’s take a closer look at Ron’s new setup along with a few extra questions for good measure!
