ART BMX Magazine caught up with Mark Vos to take a little look into a day in his life while shooting for his interview that you are be able to find in issue 5. Take a peek at what he got into along with some real good riding to go with it!
Deco BMX – Wu Pegs Promo
Here’s a funny promo for the new DECO Wu flatland pegs that I spotted on Flat Matters! This gives you a look into the design process and some of the beer that was drank to make it happen!
“The WuPEG is the only peg you need and with a weight of 69 grams or 2.4 oz. each peg (1.5 version) this will be the only “Homie Hauler” or “Action Bars” you need. These pegs had a stress analysis used to design and test airplanes with aerospace spec info on Alcoa 7000 series including hand picked American 7075 aluminum. Flatland is science. With our scientist’s stress analysis at over 2,000 pounds, our peg does not break. Stay light and stay strong my friends. WuPEG forever.
-SIZES: 1.5 and 1.75 tapered
-WEIGHT: 1.5 – 69 grams or 2.4 oz. EACH. 138 grams or 4.8 oz. PAIR
-17mm or 19mm socket compatible
Pegs sold as pairs with the choice of 10mm and 14mm with adapter version of both 1.5 and 1.75“
The Official Word on Redlines Changes For 2014

We first caught wind of some changes coming to Redline last week in an interview we dropped with Zack Gerber, but there was no official word from Redline… Until now. Today we have words from team manager, Mark “Flip” Flipowicz and Redline’s Marketing Manager, Dirk Sorenson, explaining the changes. Take a peek at what both guys had to say below…
“In the past 2 and a half years I worked hard to help Redline form a team I was proud of. I worked with the current riders at the time such as Brandon Dosch, Josh Hult and Brandon Christie. I then brought in new blood like Zack Gerber, Glenn Salyers and wiz kid Tyler Fernengel to round out what was one of the most diverse and talented teams in BMX. In that time frame together we went on some amazing trips, won an X-Games medal, made the cover of several magazines, produced web edits with view counts totaling over 1/4 million, got tons of web and magazine coverage, ran amuck at this years Texas Toast, turned a lot of people’s opinion of the brand around and most of all just had a damn good time.
However it looks like our momentum has come to an end.
Redline has decided to make some changes so I am no longer going to be part of the brand. I’d like to thank Redline and all my teammates for 2 stellar years of good times and great memories. I wish the brand, the team and everyone at Redline Bikes the best if Luck in the future.” – Mark Flipowicz
“Rumors and speculation about Redline’s future in freestyle BMX have been running rampant. This morning, I caught up with Dirk Sorenson, Redline Marketing Manager, to get the official word. Here are the key points I took away from our conversation –
– Redline is absolutely not shying away from BMX.
– Though their freestyle team is getting smaller, they will be spending more money on the remaining riders and on projects.
– They are not cutting their line of BMX bikes and will likely be expanding it in the near future.
– Mark “Flip” Filipowicz will no longer be the freestyle team manager.
– They will not be re-signing Zack Gerber, Brandon Christie, or Glenn Salyers.
– They are currently working on re-signing Tyler Fernengel, Brandon Dosch, and Josh Hult.
– Josh Hult’s potential role with the brand is much larger and will involve him traveling and riding a lot more often and in a lot more places.
– It is possible that they will add another rider (or other riders) soon.
That’s that. Anything you’ve heard beyond this is false.
Big thanks to Dirk at Redline for giving us this update. Keep watching their site to see new stuff.” – Vital BMX
Solid and Friends Edit
Here’s a video that Vern Black put together featuring some of the Solid Bikes crew and more getting down on a few different parks and street spots. Plenty of goodness in this one!
The Tanner Park Story
Take a look at this documentary that Grit Visual put together from the Tanner Park trails in Salt Lake City, Utah! Definitely a really interesting story and it shows how much hard work has been put in, in the 15 years of its existence! Amazing.
“After creating a video earlier this year about Salt Lake City’s I-Street jumps (vimeo.com/70060502), Grit Visual producers Tim Jones and Jon Cracroft were eager to learn more about the area’s other main riding spot, Tanner Park. For years, Tanner Park has been a staple to Salt Lake City’s BMX scene. After some digging around, we were told to go down to The Wood Shop, a local BMX shop, and talk to the owner, Cam Wood. After meeting and talking with him and Greg Ingersoll, we discovered that they and a few other childhood friends were the main builders that put a relentless amount of work over the past 15 years, into creating the Tanner Park that exists today.
The goal of this story is to share the story of how Tanner became what it is now. We hope to provide some insight into how Tanner Park became the lush oasis of dirt jumps in the middle of Salt Lake City.

Through The Lens: Creative Minds – Working Freelance Vs. Daily Grind

This month I hit the two-year mark as a freelance photographer after almost five years straight of working for a magazine full-time, as a salaried photographer/assistant editor and it’s been one hell of a ride so far. I seem to always have this discussion with people and it’s interesting to hear everyone’s varying opinions on the subject of freelance vs. the daily grind. This very column is one of the best parts of working for myself and has been since TTL number one. Now for those of you out there working a 9-5 I have nothing against that lifestyle. If it’s paying the bills and helping you maintain your current situation then I say go for it. There is something about creating that I am addicted to. Whether it’s shooting a photograph, or writing a 4,000-word story I seem to have the need to constantly be working and moving forward. I decided to take a little bit of time and reflect on the differences between the two, and the ups and downs of both since I feel at this point I have seen from both perspectives.
Demolition – Shane Conlon Edit
Take a look at this brand new video featuring Demolition‘s Australian connect, Shane Conlon, putting in some work on a bunch of different parks and a few street spots. Definitely stoked on this one. Check it!
“Conno produced the goods from spots from all over QLD and NSW. Shane is one of my funniest mates, and it was mad fun filming for this video.
