Scott O’Brien @ New Orleans City Park

December 17, 2012

I’m a sucker for well filmed and edited flatland edits. The riding is crazy already, but a smooth and sharp edit makes that much better. Spotted this one of Scott O’Brien on Flat-Matters that’s definitely worth a look.

“Scott has been a big inspiration in my riding for many years; more than he even knows. Back in the day, Scott rode everything and when he showed up at contests he would bust out and hand out flat/street style to many. I even judged a dirt jumping contest Scott rode in were he pulled a tree ride in his run.#sick Today he’s know for his MC work at flatland contests, but to me he will always be an all around rider, with a bag of tricks that only a few of us remember and get to see. This edit is only a few tricks what he currently works on, but I hope to document more of his riding in the next few years. Scott’s passion and unique style for this sport is a true asset to all of us. Always fun hanging out Scott!” – Rob

Sneak Peek: Bizhouse – Ratchet Prototype Sprocket?

December 16, 2012

Effraim at Flat-Matters just dropped this on me and my brain exploded. Bizhouse dropped this quick clip giving you a sneak peek at their “Ratchet”… system? No description, no real information but what I’ve gathered from this video is this.

They’re working on either a sprocket or some sort of bottom bracket that works like a ratchet wrench would work. When you pedal forward it engages and allows you to pedal, but when you are not putting forward pedal pressure on it, it allows you to freely roll backwards without pedaling. Similar to how if you are tightening a nut, you wrench and then pull it back to reset and tighten more.

Essentially this allows you to run a freecoaster without having to replace your rear hub.

I’m not going to lie, this is blowing my mind. Effraim is going to try and get a few answers out of Sean at Bizhouse about this one, so hopefully we can get some answers here soon.

What do you guys think?

Certified Vs. Non-Certified BMX Helmet Impact Test

December 16, 2012

The Athlete Recovery Fund brought Mike “Hucker” Clark, Brandon Dosch and Chad Kerley in give them some perspective on the difference between two different helmets. I think this is something you’re definitely going to want to see if you have ever wondered why you should be wearing a helmet.

“ARF Presents: Certified vs Non-Certified Bicycle Helmet Impact Test.. Come along with pro riders Mike Clark, Brandon Dosch and Chad Kerley. This video shows without a doubt the tremendous difference in protection between certified and non certified helmets. We tried to simplify the physics as much as possible but the results are undeniable. Make sure if you are riding BMX you are wearing the proper protection. It could mean the difference between riding again or not.”

Red Bull – Life Behind Bars: Vancouver BMX and Pemberton Downhill – Episode 16

December 16, 2012

I don’t know who Brandon Semenuk and Logan Peat are, but from what I’ve gathered in this is that they are professional mountain bike guys who happen to also ride BMX. They talk about how they just got into BMX and I honestly didn’t expect these guys to be as good as they are. When I say good, I mean they make BMX look easy, haha.

“Brandon and Logan hit up Kirkstone Skatepark in Vancouver, BC to test out their new BMX bikes. After a fun park session, they venture out in the city to find some local street spots. After making a new friend, the boy’s head up to Pemberton for some downhill MTB trail riding to end their trip.” – Red Bull
