Flatland street mind melter, Matthias Dandois, recently left his bike sponsor A Bad Thing. People who don’t follow flatland very closely (I dabble in the crazy videos but that’s about as far as my knowlege goes), probably had no idea he had something like starting his own bike company in the works. The new brand is listed as “BadB****”, so I’m going to assume that means BadBitch, which is pretty funny. Based on how much attention his riding gets, I’d imagine this won’t be a poor decision on his part. Here’s a few words about this news..
“As you know, I left A Bad Thing and I didn’t have any frame sponsor since then.
I have the awesome opportunity to launch my own project, Of course I don’t do it alone. with the help of Yohei “Ucchie” Uchino and Ares Byke Company, we launch “SuperB***”, A new bike company.
The team rider will be Ucchie, Tsutomo Kitayama, Kotaro Arai and Me. I’ll choose some rider in France to build a flow team so it might be pretty cool!
The prototype of the frames are en route and you know me, It’s gonna be street oriented!
Of course I’m still on Odyssey for the rest of my bike!
For now on this is all I can say, More news soon!” – Matthias Dandois

“Last summer we had the Eastern Pro Team come out to shoot photos for the 2011 Eastern Bikes catalog. A few of the Am, Vet and Test team were also on hand to take part in the action. I filmed the weekend events but much to my dismay, I misplaced the SD card that I shot everything on. Just a few weeks ago it resurfaced and here is the video. Enjoy.” – Eastern

Today, The Hunt was announced. What the hell is The Hunt? Well, it’s a new project from the mind of Justin Kosman with the help of Odyssey, Vans and Monster to motivate some of the best filmers in the world to produce one hell of a video.
The site dropped today with an almost secretive approach to what’s going on. The Mission statement on the site is the only real clue as to what’s going on. The only thing I can think of in the past that is similar to this, is the old Aspire video contests, and even then the money and invite wasn’t there. Check out the mission statement from the site..
“The Hunt is the new arena for independent BMX productions. With nearly $10,000 in cash and prizes, it’s a project that our sponsors believe in. We also believe that all riders should have a say in who wins – that’s why after the field is narrowed down to twenty semi-finalists, the fate of the DVD will be left in the hands of the people. Not all videos should die a quick death on the internet, that’s why releasing the top ten video parts on a limited edition DVD. The contest is open to an invited number of filmers and riders from around the world. If you feel like you have a shot at this and haven’t been invited, please e-mail a link to a sample vid or the idea for your video part to hello@thehuntbmx.com. Otherwise, you’ll be hearing from us.”
The $10,000 prize break down can be found by hitting this LINK. There’s a long list of filmers that popped up as to who could have been invited, but I really couldn’t say who is for sure in or out. There’s also probably going to be 500 people submitting to get involved.
There is also an interview with Justin on Defgrip about what The Hunt is all about.
All the information that’s available about The Hunt can be found at TheHuntBMX.com with more clues coming in from their twitter @TheHuntBMX.
I’m looking forward to seeing where this goes because it can only go well. Expect more when there’s more to be found.
A few weeks back it was announced that the Etnies skatepark in Lake Forest would no longer allow pegs in their park. Now you might assume Etnies is behind this, but in reality they just sponsor the park, and the park is ran by the city. Check out a few words from Etnies and then find out how to sign the petition…
“etnies was shocked and disappointed to discover that the City of Lake Forest banned BMX pegs from their public skatepark. In fact, we heard nothing of this proposed ban until AFTER it happened and it should be noted that the etnies Skatepark of Lake Forest, although it bears our name, is managed and run by the City of Lake Forest, not by etnies or any etnies personnel. ”
To sign the petition, hit this LINK and sign your name in the comments. The more the better so spread the word!
