Raw Jibs: Felix Prangenberg In Cali

May 13, 2019

Freedom BMX coming through with a raw cut featuring Felix Prangenberg going to work on spots out in California with some of his teammates from Wethepeople! As always, Felix delivered a ton of dialed riding from street and park sessions, so hit play and take it all in!

“Felix Prangenberg was in California for a few weeks recently to escape the German winter and shoot for a top-secret video project. Unfortunately, we should not reveal what exactly is being worked on here, but as you can hear rumors, Felix has been checked off during the filming of a blatant NBD, so you can be prepared for something! Warmly, here are some of the best clips Felix filmed during his trip to the West Coast for his Instagram profile (@felix_prangenberg). In addition to various shots, which are really too good for grief there, there are also some guestclip of Grant Castelluzzo, Dan Kruk and Jesse Romano to see. So you have a thoroughly rewarding treat!” – Freedom BMX

Sneak Peek: Hoffman Bikes – Big Daddy 2019 Reissue

May 13, 2019

Hoffman Bikes Big Daddy frame

The Hoffman Bikes Big Daddy frame is coming back! Last year during the X Games, a group of us were hanging out and Mat Hoffman talked about his plans with Hoffman Bikes now that he has full control of the brand once again. One of the things he mentioned was that he planned to do some reissues of some of the classic Hoffman Bikes products! Today we spotted the Big Daddy Frame over on the Hell On Wheels Instagram to announce that they’re taking pre-orders for the frame, and we would imagine plenty of other shops will be doing the same here soon.

The Big Daddy frame is made from full 4130 chromoly tubing with a 75-degree head tube angle, 70-degree seat tube angle, 11.8″ bottom bracket height, 8″ standover height and a 13.4″ – 14.2″ chainstay length. The frame features an integrated headtube, a big gusset on the down tube, the classic seat stays that wrap around to the top tube, a Mid bottom bracket, CNC machined and heat-treated 14mm dropouts and removable brake mounts. The Big Daddy frame will be available in 19.5″ and 20.5″ top tube lengths with colors of Black, Raw and Chrome with two sticker kits.

This frame was originally designed by Kevin Jones back in 1993 and it revolutionized flatland frames. Now, in 2019 Kevin has has say in this frame as well as doing all the testing. That’s beyond awesome to see! Here’s a few words about that from the Hell On Wheels website…

“For a little history lesson the original Big Daddy frame was legendary flatlander Kevin Jones’s signature frame and Kevin has been heavily involved with the reissue, see below for a pic of Kevin testing one of the prototypes. Kevin Jones is credited as the innovator of modern day flatland riding. His exploits have been well documented in the ‘Dorkin’ In York’ video series, and his influence on flatland is worldwide. He was the first flatland rider to be added onto the Hoffman Bikes team at its inception. In 1993, Jones designed the signature Big Daddy frame for Hoffman Bikes. The frame revolutionised modern flatland, and is still a sought after bike many years later.” – Hell On Wheels

Unclicked Podcast Demarcus Paul BMX

The latest round of Dennis Enarson‘s Unclicked Podcast has arrived and this time around he caught up with Demarcus Paul to talk about his back injury, being a dad (honestly had no idea!), what he has going on with riding, travel, sponsors and much, much more. This one is over 2 hours long, and you’ll definitely learn a bunch about Demarcus in the process. Hit up the UNCLICKED PODCAST WEBSITE to give it a listen since it’s not embedable!

“This week on the podcast we have pro bmx rider DeMarcus Paul. DeMarcus has been killing it for a while with style, pop, and tricks. We both live in San Diego but don’t get to ride together very often so it was cool to sit down with him and get to know him better. He has a great mindset and I have a lot of respect for this dude..” – Dennis Enarson

The BMX In Our Blood Podcast – Mason Ritter

May 13, 2019

The latest The BMX In Our Blood Podcast has arrived, and this time around Joe Doherty sat down with Mason Ritter a little better! Mason has been crushing it for quite some time now, and it seems like he’s always kind of flown a little under the radar, but he’s definitely caught some people’s attention as of late at a few contests. Hit play, take it all in and get familiar!

“If there is one BMX rider that is living his life the way he wants to it’s Mason Ritter. This guy rides like an absolute animal and has a heart of gold. It’s no wonder Hoffman Bikes chose him to be on the team a few years ago. What a great choice and one that seems to fit right in with the rest of the team. This podcast is a little different than any others I have recorded because during the course of the podcast Mason gave me my first tattoo while answering questions, not an easy task! Freehand too! If you don’t follow me on IG at @gromdad2000 I’ll let you know right here. The tattoo is a phrase, Make A Difference. It is very meaningful to me for reasons that I listeners may understand. Try putting it in action if you aren’t already making a difference in the lives of others in any way, shape or form. I think Mason makes a difference. Thank you Murphy Moschetta for taking pictures of the podcast in action. You can find Mason at @mantistattoo @thewheelmill and @pbrbike as well as East Coast BMX shows.” – Joe Doherty

Sneak Peek: Inside The Flybikes Magneto Cassette Hub

May 13, 2019

Flybikes Magneto Cassette Hub internals BMX

Get a look inside the Magneto Cassette Hub from Flybikes!

** Updated August 9th with more details on the release date and another look inside the hub! **

Here’s one we’ve been anxiously waiting to get a look at! Flybikes have FINALLY released a look inside their long awaited, highly anticipated Magneto Cassette Hub that has been in the works for a little over a decade. The internals are surprisingly pretty simple, but there was A LOT that went into getting everything just right. The team has been testing different versions since rumors about it first started swirling around 2008 / 2009ish and they’ve tested out a bunch of different manufacturers in the process. It looks like they’ve finally got it all dialed in and found the perfect manufacturer in Europe to make it a reality. Essentially the hub utilizes two magnets, one on the driver and one on the ratchet, that push the ratchet ring into place with magnetic force when you pedal. There are fewer parts, simplifying things and making for one clean looking hub. The exact release date hasn’t been announced is set for October. We’ll definitely keep you posted as soon as full details are available! What do you think? Let us know in the comments below! Check out the update by scrolling down!

Flybikes Magneto Cassette Hub BMX

“During these past 10+ years, some people have seen it or heard about it, but now we are finally letting everyone see how the Magneto cassette works.
What a journey it has been to make this happen… We had a dream a long time ago about a system with just one ratchet and magnets instead of springs. This simple idea sounded easy to make happen, but it definitely wasn’t!
We wanted this hub to be as good as it gets, so after countless samples to achieve our dream hub, finally, we choose to have them made in Europe to get the finest quality possible with different axles, bolts, drivers & color options. We are beyond stoked to finally put it into production.
The Magneto Cassette Hub will be available this summer. We will be announcing the release date and full details on the hub options soon! The wait is almost over!
” – Flybikes

** Update starts here… **

Flybikes Magneto Cassette Hub Internals

“The Magneto Cassette hub features a magnetic system engage using the force of two magnets that allows the ratchet ring to engage. The magnetic field provides an even repelling force which makes the ratchet work completely straight and are created in a way that reduces friction compared to the use of springs. The Neomidium magnets we use maintain the magnetic field pretty much forever as well. These properties create the fastest, most reliable and durable system possible. Not to mention, a pretty unique and powerful noise that everybody loves…
The simplicity of the system is also great for customization. With ONLY ONE moving part, the assembly is as easy as it can get and reduces the overall weight significantly.
We are using heat treated CrMo caps instead of aluminum to be stiff and avoid wobble that can form over time and they are CNC machined outside and inside to achieve almost the same weight as aluminum. The shell is made of a much stronger 7075 Aluminum and features the sunken spoke holes that we created with our Classic Front Hub. The driver, end caps and bolts use an anti-rust process that also gives the hub an awesome titanium color finish.

We also have a matching Magneto Front Hub and Hub guards that will be dropping with the Magneto Cassette in October! We are taking pre-orders from shops and distributors now!” – Flybikes
