The Profile Racing Z-Coaster has been out for a few weeks now and we’re curious as to what people that are running it thinks! We haven’t really heard much feedback beyond Adam LZ’s video review and the positive response from the team riders. So, if you’re running this hub, let us know in the comments what you think? Pros / Cons, issues you had, things you really love about it, etc…
This hub is made right here in the U.S.A and starts off with the the same Elite hub shell, which is made from CNC machined aluminum hub shell with laser etched logos. Inside, you can find a 14mm hollow chromoly axle, two sealed bearings and a larger sealed bearing behind the driver on Profile Racing’s new patented freecoaster design that uses 3 unique Z shaped cassette pawls which feature 48 points of engagement and all of the pawls engage simultaneously on it’s 1-piece chromoly driver that allows the hub to disengage and work as a freecoaster.
The patented freecoaster design uses slack cam rings that allow you to set the amount of slack you want from 20-degrees all the way up to 90-degrees. You can watch the video on how to change the slack cam rings below.
This hub sounds like a cassette hub when it’s engaged and then goes completely silent when you are disengaged and good to coast backwards. The Z-Coaster is available in black only with a weight 20.6 oz.. This hub is available with 14mm chromoly male axle, 14mm titanium male axle and Titanium driver, 3/8″ chromoly bolts with a female axle and chromoly driver and 3/8″ Titanium bolts with a female axle and Titanium driver.
The Z-Coaster is available now through all BMX shops and mail-orders that carry Profile Racing and comes in colors of black, polished, gold, red and blue (UPDATE: Now there’s a bunch of colors) with a weight of 20.6oz (full chromoly setup). The price tag is higher than other hubs, starting at $357.99, due to it being made here in the USA and being a new product with years of time put into the design and a patent behind it. You can also customize your own direct from the Profile Racing webstore.
So, who runs one? We want to hear from you in the comments!
