The other day I had a DVD show up in the mail from the Alone guys over in the U.K. Alone is a fairly new brand to me that I started taking notice of about two or three years ago, even though they’ve been around for about 10 years already. In the past two or so years, they’ve done a handful of team trips and thanks to team rider and film maker, Sean Pointing, they’ve been able to drop some really impressive videos from their adventures.
The team recently went on the “You Slag Tour” and wanted to do something special with the video from their trip, so they put together a DVD to go along with some of their past trip videos for everyone to enjoy. Let’s take a look!
Going into this DVD, I didn’t really know what to expect. I wasn’t sure if it was going to be a full original video from their recent trip or what really. Looking at the cover I quickly realized this was more of a promo DVD for the brand over a full on “full-length” video with months (or years) of trips for filming missions to collect clips for the video.
The DVD is built around some of their trip videos they have released online the past few years, which I’ll emebed in with this below, to go along with a brand new edit that premiered in this DVD from the “You Slag Tour” which was a trip from Paris, France to Munich, Germany they recently took about three months back now.
The 8 Days of Hate video which was released two years ago, from their trip to Malaga, Spain where they spent 8 days checking out the sights and getting some riding time in at the local spots. As you can see, it was a pretty laid back trip and everyone was on a mission to have some fun. It’s crazy to think that this video is already two years old.
The Alone En France video, which dropped about a year ago, that is from their epic road trip that covered 2,500 miles taking them to Paris, France. This trip featured James Hitchcox, Joshua Wyles, Sean Pointing, Kevin Sparrow and Eisa Bakos all putting in the miles and riding to make for a real good time and video.
The Home Alone video is based around a team trip that brought the team guys to their home base in the U.K to spend some time filming, build up brand new bikes and visit the Zeal Distribution warehouse and Phoenix Bike Shop back in February of 2012.
Carry On Grinding is an edit that featured the extra riding footage from the trip to Malaga, Spain. This is all from a heavy grinding session that went down at the Green Park.
Finally, the video that isn’t online yet, and premiering in the DVD is the “You Slag Tour” that I mentioned above from a quick trip to Paris, France and a week long trip around Munich, Germany.
You can find the bonus section which also features some of their past edits like Sam Collisson’s bike check, Chris Nunn, Josh Wyles and Sean Pointing’s past edits and some of the teasers for the videos they’ve put out.
Over the past few years, the team has been pretty consistent with guys like Sam Collisson, Ben Manuel, Chris Nunn, Sean Pointing, Vince Primel, Josh Wyles and James Hitchcox all being pretty heavily involved with all the trips which is a good sign because it means these guys all really get along well and it’s more friends over just being on the same team.
When it comes to the filming and editing, anyone who has been around BMX has most likely seen some of Sean Pointing’s work in that particular department as well. If you watched the videos above, you can see a similar feel to each video with a laid back vibe, really clean filming and editing with a little extra effects to make it flow smoothly and have a look that stands out. That’s because not only does Sean ride, he’s the guy handling the majority of the filming and editing. I’m personally a big fan of Sean’s work because it’s clear his main focus is making the riding look good but not super serious. That’s also thanks to the team since those guys all really do a good job of keeping it fun as well.
So, the Alone BMX DVD isn’t exactly “NEW” since the majority of it is just a compilation of their best edits, but the “You Slag Tour” is exclusive to the DVD and it’s definitely worth a watch if you like having fun and not taking BMX super serious. It also allows you to watch the video on your TV crystal clear over trying to watch the edits on your computer, laptop or phone.
The overall run time of the video is just under 20 minutes so it’s a real good for watching quick, getting stoked to go ride and then getting out the door and on your bike. That’s a big perk since I know those longer videos pushing an hour can slow a guy down… At least it gets to me, haha.
