Chad DeGroot Talks BMX in Skateparks

Check out this little video where Chad DeGroot talks about the importance of being involved with new skateparks being built to allow bikes in along with a few other things. Chad’s definitely one guy who has been around the block plenty of times and knows what he’s talking about, so take a peek.

“BMX is a sport that many not seem as popular as skateboarding. There are tons of skate parks around but you might have not heard of a bike park. Most people don’t know that many skate parks do not allow BMX riders to ride their bikes there. For Chad DeGroot of Longwood Florida his mission is to petition cities to let BMX riders in. DeGroot is also a owner of a bike shop called Mr. Bikes n Boards and a professional BMX flatland rider who has competed in competitions all over the world.
DeGroot started riding bikes in high school as a form of transportation until he learned he could do cool tricks on his bike. When he moved to Florida thirteen years ago he helped open local skate parks as well as help open the new Candyland skate park in Longwood. Along with his store he is also the owner and rider of a BMX company called Deco. While being a busy man DeGroot tries to attend various city meetings to petition to let bikes in. Recently he had a father go on behalf of him to petition the city of Oviedo to let BMX riders into their skate park. With DeGroots thoughts going to the council he finally got through to them.
He believes that BMX and skateboarding helps with learning about life and blowing off steam and it is a great thing for teens. He also thinks that skate parks are the new playgrounds of parks. In BMX Union DeGroots quotes “We’re here for the long haul” about the future of BMX.” – Ariel Ibarra

Insight: Eclat – Nathan Peg

Product design is one of the most interesting things in BMX to me. Just the whole process of coming up with an idea and turning it into an actual product is so fascinating. Over the past two or three years, plastic pegs have really been becoming a hugely popular part for BMX. In that time, it seems like every brand has released their own version of the plastic peg these days and the heated debate over plastic versus metal pegs continues.
There might have been a lot of options added to the table, but they’re all pretty similar in design. That was up until a few weeks ago when Eclat released Nathan Williams’ signature peg that features a steel core that’s bonded with a plastic creating a one piece design.
After seeing a lot of mixed reactions about the peg, we figured it would be a good idea to catch up with one of the guys behind the design, Richard Shaw, to talk about how the peg was made and what really went into creating this version of the plastic peg. Let’s see what he had to say!

Getting Awesome: Double Dirt Session with Ryan Nyquist
