This is pretty cool. All around good guy, Kevin Robinson, is putting together a rad event that’ll bring some old school riders together with some of the younger crowd for a interesting event. Take a peek at the official press release below to find out more.
“East Providence, RI – May 15, 2013 – The 3rd Annual Ride with K-Rob Family Fun Festival will include an exciting new event in 2013 with the addition of the 1980s-themed Wisdom to Youth contest, sponsored by K-Rob Events, Red Bull and Hoffman Bikes. Held at the Looff Carousel in East Providence on June 8, the event will be modeled after the vert and flatland contests that pushed the progression of BMX in the 1980s. Hosted by Kevin Robinson, the event will be incorporated into the Family Fun Festival as a way to celebrate the roots of BMX and spread awareness for where today’s iteration of the sport has come from.
Wisdom to Youth will include an Invite Veteran Ramp Class, Invite Veteran Flatland Class, Invite Youth Class and a limited spot Open Class. Competition will take place on two 8 foot tall, 8 foot wide quarterpipes, a kick-turn ramp, a 9 foot tall, 12 foot wide quarterpipe and a box jump. Riders will be judged in a variety of categories, including showmanship, difficulty and originality. Competitors will include legendary names such as Joe Johnson and Ron Wilkerson, along with up-and-coming riders. BMX contest commentators from the 80s will be on the scene to hype the action, and a prize purse will be awarded.
The day will close out with the screening of a documentary covering the history of BMX in New England, entitled “A Wicked Ride”. The day will also feature a group ride down the East River Bike Path and a festival complete with vendor booths, live demonstrations, a football combine and live music, as well as the awarding of the 2nd annual “Junior Seau Award of Excellence.”

The Byke Project caught up with Alex Jumelin to not only film this awesome video, but to do an interview along with it that’s definitely interesting and adds a lot to the video. If you’re looking for some flatland goodness, this is where you need to be.
Today’s feature is all about archiving. The importance of it, what it really means to “archive” your images and how to make sense of it all. This is something that every photographer has to deal with on some level regardless of the medium. If you grew up shooting film, or still do, you most likely have binders full of negative sleeves. If you shoot exclusively digital or even mostly digital like myself then surely you have hard drives filled up with gigs and gigs worth of images. If I had to guess I have over 75,000 or so images floating around from the past six years since moving west, which takes up quite a bit of space. Am I the most organized person in the world? Probably not, but I put forth a solid effort to try and stay on top of my archiving as best I can. When you work freelance and constantly put out different projects for different outlets it can get a bit overwhelming making sure that everything is neatly organized, labeled and safely stored for future use. On that note, if you are interested in learning a thing or two about archiving check this out.

“The Monster Army Recon Tour presented by Replay XD made it’s fourth stop at The Incline Club in Lakewood, NJ. Scotty Cranmer’s home park is amazing and definitely lived up to the hype! The event went off with 90 competitors and some of the best riding we have witnessed on the tour. Team Hyper stepped up to the plate by having multiple riders gaining podium spots in various divisions. The battle for the top spot and the all expense paid trip to the Play AM finals at Mike Spinner’s house in the Play Open division was intense to say the least. Athletes such as Trent Newkirk, Vinny Mannino, Matty Cranmer, and Jordan Prince were all throwing down trying to get that ticket. In the end it was David Lieb walking away with it all. He was able to gain the sought after award with his effortless style and consistency, as well as throwing tricks like triple wips, and backflip 7’s. We can’t wait to see the talent in North Carolina and would like to give Special thanks to our tour partners Monster Army, Hookit, Mike Spinner, Replay XD, A3, Vans, Movietickets.com, Hyper BMX, Madcatz, X-Ryderz, Fat Tony, the staff at The Incline Club, and especially the Cranmer’s.“
