Product: Mutant Bikes – Owl Hubs

November 25, 2012

We gave you a preview of the new Mutant Bikes Owl hubs during Interbike in September. These unique hubs work on a sliding female axle which not only look really clean and work really well, it simplifies things and even creates a stronger female axle. In the video above, Nuno gives you a look at how quick you can install two hub guards and 2 pegs on the cassette hub and it also gives you a look at how the sliding axle system allows you to tighten both sides down by simply tightening one side due to the sliding axle. I believe these hubs will be hitting shops in early 2013 so start saving now!

“We designed and developed the Fe-Male system to maintain the look of a female hub with the possibility to use pegs without bending axles or breaking bolts.
With the Fe-Male axle, you can use 14mm pegs, but if you don’t use pegs, you just need to put the spacer washers.
To tighten the hub is very simple, just adjust the wheel by hand on both sides, make sure the axle is minimally centered and then give the final tightening with a tool in just one side, it will be properly tightened because the axle slides from one side to the other.
The advantages of the Fe-Male axle are:
Easy to tight
One single axle for a male or female hub
Stronger
”

Product: BSD – Crack Pipe Pegs

June 15, 2012

The names BSD come up for their products is hilarious. Here’s a look at their new Crack Pipe pegs.

“New for 2012 is our new peg dubbed the ‘Crack Pipe’. It’s a tough, clean and simple 4140 cromo design which is first forged, then CNC machined and finally heat-treated. This creates a very strong and light peg without the need for holes or extra spaceship style machining. They are sold individually in either 10mm or 14mm axle variations and are in stock with BSD dealers worldwide now. For the full spec check out the Crack Pipe Peg product page. Jeez, that’s a tongue-twister!…”

Drawing Board: Animal Butcher Peg

March 29, 2012

Unless you have been hiding underneath a rock for the past year or so, you will have noticed the rapidly growing popularity of the Plastic Peg in BMX. Now the choice of Peg for some of the biggest street riders in the business such as Nathan Williams, Corey Martinez, Ben Lewis and Tony Hamlin, the Animal Butcher Peg has caused quite a stir in the Skateparks, Streets and Message Boards around the world. I caught up with Animal Bike’s Product Manager Frank Lam and the Peg’s creator and street legend Joe “Butcher” Kowalski to discuss the history and origins of the marble ledge’s new best friend…

Product: Demolition Dumchuck Pegs

February 23, 2012

“With all the talk about plastic pegs lately, we thought we’d show off our new Dumbchuck pegs off a bit. We first brought out the first Dumbchuck pegs 6-somethin’ years ago. They first started out from Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla wanting something slicker for grinding on rough ledges. The progression of the Dumbchuck hasn’t changed too much over the years. They now have a harder/ more durable nylon outer shell material and still has the same 7075 Al inner sleeve. They’ve also gotten smaller (ø1.5″) over the years to progress with how small the dropouts are these days. They also weigh in at a cool 3.5oz.”

Head over to the Demolition site to check out more photos!
