BMX Plus! – Freestyles Radest Tricks (1985)

April 15, 2020

With the lockdown, the Youtube suggestions have been going deep lately. Here’s one the popped up for all the old school BMX guys out there, or just the younger generation that wants to see what BMX was like in the 80’s! This is the full BMX Plus “Freestyles Raddest Tricks” video that came out in 1985! This video features a bunch of legends, some you probably have heard of, others you may not have heard off, showing you what BMX tricks were the raddest at the time. This is 28 minutes of riding with a little how to action mixed in as well. It’s pretty wild how much BMX has changed since this has been made from the bikes to the tricks and everything. Either way, it’s a good watch, so hit play and take a look at it! Who knows, maybe it will inspire some riders to mix things up and throw some old school tricks into the mix to freshen things up a bit!

“Made in 1985 by Trends In Professional Sound And Video Dimensions.

Features riders Ron Wilkerson / Mike Buff / Rich Sigur / Scott Freeman / Scott McCloud / Robert Peterson / David Nourie / Martin Aparijo / Brian Scura / John “Dizz” Hicks / Brian Blyther.

Footage at Pipeline as well as How-To instruction.” – Oldschool BMX TV

The End of BMX Plus!

September 14, 2015

bmx-plus-bmx-magazine-done

Well, here’s some unfortunate news to be announcing. After 37 years, BMX Plus! have decided to call it quits. They have made the announcement via Twitter and it sounds like their final issue will be the November 2015 issue. For those of you keeping track, that really only leaves Ride BMX as a major publication for BMX magazines now that DIG, Ride UK and BMX Plus! have discontinued print. There are still a few smaller publications that do print, but seeing a magazine like BMX Plus! go under is pretty rough. I’d be willing to bet the first magazine a lot of you saw were a BMX Plus! in your school.

Through The Lens – Creative Minds: The Creator of Radical Rick

April 3, 2013

Radical Rick BMX

For this weeks feature I decided to continue the Creative Minds series and instantly thought of Damian Fulton. For those of you out there that don’t know, Damian is the creator responsible for the entire Radical Rick comic strip series that was featured in BMX Plus! magazines for over a decade. For many readers out there, it was THE reason to pick up a copy of Plus! and had a pretty big following. There wasn’t a BMX rider out there that wasn’t down with Radical Rick. The series was always fresh, and Damian was putting out solid content month after month. I have a ton of respect for him and can’t believe he ran it for so long. I know all too well that dealing with deadlines on a regular basis can be a huge pain in the ass. So the fact that he made it work, regardless of his already packed schedule says a lot about his love for the work he was doing and the product he was creating. After tracking him down I caught up with him at his Southern California home and was honored to have the chance to hear about all things Radical Rick from the man himself. Obviously this feature was aimed for the old school heads out there but it’s also a bit of a history lesson for the younger generation so hopefully everyone gets a little something out of it.
