Brian Tunney – November 2023 Clips

December 1, 2023

Check out this month’s Brian Tunney video!

It’s that time of the month (the first) where Brian Tunney gives us a look at his sessions from the previous month! This marks 60 consecutive videos where Brian gives us a look at what he got into during his flatland sessions. Like the previous 59, this has a laid back vibe but plenty of great riding to take in. Hit play!

“With this video, five (5) years of consecutive monthly videos comes to a close. That’s 70 videos since November of 2018, a feat I never could’ve imagined completing. But here I am, very tired, barely keeping up, and wanting very much to take a relaxed approach to the next couple of months of filming for a (gulp) 50th birthday edit.

Next month, I plan on compiling everything that I still like from the past year for a best of 2023 video, and once the new year hits, I have basically three months to film for a 50th birthday edit. I have some plans, but am preferring to keep it relatively loose and see what happens. I would like to get out of the garage a little more, do some longer rolling combos, and after that, who knows, maybe I’ll go back to the monthly cadence.

To everyone that’s watched, shared, and liked, I sincerely appreciate you. And with that, here’s a rundown of my November 2023 riding.

00:00 I got out of the garage to do a tailwhip nosepick at an old Austin spot not far from home. I used to ride street a lot, and with this newer bike I built up, I’m realizing that sometimes just pedaling around my local areas is better for my psyche than isolating myself in the garage for hours at a time.

00:08 I hadn’t really messed with hang 5s in the garage before this month because I like rolling them in a straight line. This month, I rolled a few in circles and used them for warm ups. This warm up, hang 5 to pinky squeaks to gerator to smith, felt good and I’m taking it.

00:30 I am not good at peg-to-peg decades, but fooled around with them enough this month that they got to feel slightly better. This completely surprised me though. I wasn’t going for it, but when I got around the undertaker and everything was lined up, I went for it and it happened.

00:38 Seat pass juggler to one-handed juggler to seat pass juggler to around the world on a rainy day.
01:05 Another hang 5 variation, the scratch-5 to backwards hitchhiker. The scratch-5 is an ancient relic from 1989 that I refuse to let go of.
01:21 Pinky squeak to gerator to undertaker rolling in a circle. This took forever and I’m not sure if I even like it.

01:40 Barspin to undertaker to peg decade. I am definitely predictable when it comes to learning new undertaker variations.
01:49 Three seat pass juggler to invisible hand to hitchhiker. I did this once earlier in the same day, rolled away, went to put my foot on the pedals and completely slipped off the bike. This is the official pulled version, ten minutes later.

02:11 Undertaker to gerator to peg decade. This took waaaay too long to do, probably an hour of attempts before it just magically happened.

02:27 Five (5) jugglers for the first time in the garage. Previous to riding in a garage, I never really rode in circles, so this is an accomplishment in itself and also nicely coincides with five years of videos.” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – October 2023 Clips

November 1, 2023

Check out Brian Tunney’s riding in October!

It’s a new month and like clockwork, Brian Tunney has delivered with his monthly sessions video! Here’s just under 3 minutes of footage from his garage flatland sessions (and two clips from park sessions for good measure) to check out! As always, Brian delivers with the good stuff, so take a look!

Brian Tunney – September 2023 Clips

October 1, 2023

Is it really October already?

We always know when a new month rolls around when Brian Tunney drops a fresh video to check out! September is indeed a wrap, and now we get a look at what Brian got into during his flatland sessions in his garage over the course of the month. Check out the riding, along with a great breakdown of everything below!

“September became the undertaker to gerator month. I’ve done this combo in the past but never really went deep with it. So this month, the undertaker to gerator became the main focus of my riding.

It’s a unique combination because as soon as you land right foot on the other side of the bike, you have to pull the bike back up and completely reposition your foot and ankle for the scuffing part of the trick. On 20-year-old ankles, that’s not a problem. But I have not been 20 since before Windows ’95. Therefore, my ankle still hates me.

The Rundown

00:01 The whole reason this craziness got started in the first place. September 1, I did an undertaker to gerator to backwards wheelie to undertaker relatively easy. From there, I figured, let’s try a few more this weekend. A month later, here we are…
00:16 While they were happening somewhat easier than usual, I decided to attempt this double barspin undertaker to gerator to smith. A year ago, the mere thought of this and the hours it would take to land scared me. But it all clicked in about 25 minutes this year.
00:30 Another undertaker to gerator to backwards wheelie to undertaker, this time with a single barspin added at the beginning. Again, a year ago, this would’ve taken 3-4 hours. This year, this month, it was all clicking.
00:48 Barspin undertaker to gerator to forward rope to reverse undertaker. I did this a year or so ago, without a barspin and it was hard. This somehow happened after a few minutes of attempts.
01:04 Double barspin undertaker to gerator to backwards wheelie to undertaker. Now I was just getting silly with variations….
01:23 As the month progressed, the undertaker to gerator combo became more elusive and not as consistent (I think I just got tired of going through the same motions), but this triple barspin undertaker to gerator was on the list of things to try and it happened, haphazardly.
01:37 Tailwhip to undertaker to gerator to backwards wheelie to power mower. This day was super humid, as my brakes will attest to.
01:54 Cancan undertaker to gerator to backwards wheelie to lawnmower. As the promise of squeaking out another undertaker at the end became more frustrating, I resorted to easier saves like the power mower and lawnmower. Because let’s face it, my feet and ankles were damn tired of this trick.
02:07 Junkyard to undertaker to gliding gerator. It was sloppy but as I state in the video, “I’m taking that.” Texas heat has made me soft.
02:22 My favorite trick of the month, the barspin undertaker to gerator to backwards wheelie to barspin undertaker. This was definitely a dream, it’ll never happen, trick. And now I never have to do it again.

I really need to take a break from undertakers for a while now. There might be a few more between now and the end of the year, but no more overarching monthly themes involving undertakers from here through the end of the year at least. This, I promise.” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – August 2023 Clips

September 2, 2023

Brian Tunney gives us a look at what he got into in August!

Where did August go? Where did summer go? This past month and year as a whole seems to have just flown! With a new month, that also means that Brian Tunney has released his latest edit giving us a look at his flatland sessions in his garage over the course of August. Hit play for a little over 2 minutes of riding with a chill, laidback song you probably haven’t heard before to enjoy.

“The craziest thing about this video is that every clip I filmed in August was filmed while the temperature was over 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Therefore, this is the hottest video I have ever filmed… In between literal GoPro meltdowns, healthy sweat sessions and many liters of downed water, I managed eight different things that I’m kinda, sorta okay with. Here’s a quick rundown of what I managed to get done during the hottest August on record in Austin, Texas.

00:05 Double bar undertaker to backyard to pivot out: I did the single bar version last year and this one-up felt way tougher last year. Things have changed.
00:25 Triple hitchhiker juggler to around-the-world. I did this without the camera in about ten minutes and then brought the camera out and it took about 35 minutes to get done.
00:48 Switch-foot gerator to backwards wheelie to undertaker: If you saw the 1991 throwback I posted earlier this month, you’ll see that I attempted a switch-foot gerator in my run. This is me making good on that attempt.
01:02 Double pinky squeak to gerator to two-foot rolling backyard to pivot out: No idea where this came from, but I like it.
01:25 Half-lash to footjam barspin to gerator to smith decade out: Just an idea I had that worked out, along with a too-close-for-comfort smith decade to end things.
01:43 Inside circle switch-foot peg wheelie to peg-ade landing in the boomer-ankle position: This was easier to do than type out. Joking, it was still hard because I am not a traditional decade person.
01:56 Hitchhiker to invisible hand to hitchhiker to hitchhiker: This took some time to get right. The invisible hand to hitch puts you on an angled path, which you have to straighten back out to then do the next hitch.
02:14 Sloppy entry into a barspin-catch, barspin-back, barpsin-catch to undertaker. No notes.

Brian Tunney – July 2023 Clips

August 1, 2023

Brian Tunney gives us a look at his July sessions!

It’s that time of the month (the 1st) for Brian Tunney to drop his monthly edit for us to check out! Here’s a look at what he got into during his flatland sessions in his garage over the course of July. It was a scorcher, but that didn’t keep Brian from getting it done. Take a look!

“Due to July’s average temperature being somewhere between 98 and 102 degrees, I allowed myself to take it easy and not go crazy this month. Seriously, it was always too hot to ride. I made it happen regardless but no marathon sessions were happening. These were more like 20 minute bursts of energy that descended into an overheated sweaty mess in no time. On top of that, the GoPro heats up really quick and then shuts off without warning. So I have my reasons. As for the riding…

00:01 Seat pass hitchhiker juggler to one-hand juggler to Dave duster. This was nothing special, just me kicking off the month and trying to clear out the jugglers in a garage closet.
00:19 The first of many undertakers this month. The stalls wanted to happen so I went with it and stalled this into a rope-a-roni.
00:29 Seat pass juggler to one-hand juggler to another one-hand juggler. Again, clearing out the juggler closet this month.
00:43 I hadn’t done one of these in a few years and wanted to make sure I could still do it, without getting stuck on attempts for two hours. Undertaker to gerator to smith in about 15-20 minutes, in a Satriale’s t-shirt.
00:55 Seat pass juggler to invisible hand to steamroller to half hiker to one-hand juggler.
01:14 Undertaker stall to late barspin. I really wanted this to smith decade out, but I’m not really consistent at this late barpsin thing and needed to work on that first. It’s gonna happen, it might just take a few weeks.
01:24 Double seat pass juggler to opposite elbow glide. Nothing special, but still a challenge in a two-car garage.
01:40 Half lash to foot jam barspin to smith decade. Looks easy, but it took a while. Combining an undertake with this is going to take a lot of work and my brain wasn’t ready for it this month.
01:53 Half hiker to Dave duster to backwards hitchhiker. No notes!
02:16 Cancan to undertaker to late barspin. Still working on consistency with the late barspin so I figured I’d throw in some stuff at the beginning. I also like treating undertakers like they’re vert airs.

Soundtrack: Marriages, J. Robbins, Drive Like Jehu, The Replacements, The Garage Fan, Neighborhood Cicadas, Karate, Soulside

And now onto August. Not gonna lie: the heat has zapped my motivation and August might be a few tricks plus a bike check on the back brake bike. We’ll see how it goes though. As always, thanks for watching. Rest in peace Paul Reubens!” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – June 2023 Clips

July 1, 2023

Check out Brian Tunney’s latest edit!

It’s July 1st and that means that it’s time to check out Brian Tunney‘s latest edit giving us a look at what he got into during his flatland sessions over the course of June! As always, Brian delivers with a bunch of great riding, and full details on just what he filmed down below! Check it!

“June started out moderately temperate and then went bonkers by the end of the month. I have attempted to “progress” but riding in 95 degree temperatures (in the shade) is not always easy. So without becoming sideline weather man again, here’s a rundown of everything from June.

00:01 Four seat grab jugglers in the garage. I thought three was the max in this space but I somehow made it happen.
00:18 Four barspin weed wacker to undertaker. I had never done four barspins before this. Someone held on and made it work though.
00:30 One hitchhiker juggler to backwards whip to backwards hitch (I may have done this already but never in the garage before.)
00:50 Cancan undertaker to gliding greater. Not much to report here.
01:03 Juggler to frame grab invisible hand to around the world.
01:26 Barpsin undertaker to backside barspin at the end. Watch closely, I figured out another silly way to add one more spin at the end. It took a while for this to happen, and when it finally did, I swear, my brain was hovering over my body watching it happen. I think some people call that flow state but I’d prefer to remain with my body while doing 30 year old BMX tricks.
01:36 Double seat grab juggler to invisible hand to hitchhiker. I am pretty proud of this one.
01:53 This day was 98 degrees in the shade and I decided to ride anyway. This is nothing fancy, just a fire hydrant to undertaker. But when it’s that hot, it’s hard to even retain grip of the bars without the moisture from your sweat interfering.
02:04 Seat grab juggler to one-hand whip juggler to seat grab juggler.
02:17 I kept trying my last trick for three days and it wasn’t happening on the first two of those three days. This was from day two and I thought it looked okay so didn’t want to scrap it.
02:29 And finally, on day three, it happened. This is a double barspin to undertaker to late barspin at the end. This is not a consistent trick by any means, so do not expect to get caught down a wormhole on this trick next month.

All in all, not a decent month of riding. I keep learning new ways to utilize a pretty small space and for that I am not gonna complain. ” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – May 2023 Clips

June 1, 2023

Brian Tunney dropped his latest edit!

It’s a new month, and that means it’s time for a new video from Brian Tunney giving us a look at what he got into during his flatland sessions over the course of the past month! Hit play to check out just under 3 minutes of raw footage from what appears to be some hot and humid sessions that lead to some real good riding despite an injury forcing him to mix things up!

“Since the beginning of April, I’ve been dealing with some tendonitis pain in my right arm, brought on by not doing undertakers for a few months and then doing a bunch in March, and so I forced myself to not squeeze the back brake with my right arm for the majority of the month. As a result, May started out kinda slow and then got extremely humid and rainy. Here’s a rundown of everything.

00:02 I hadn’t done a rolling undertaker in the garage since we moved in last year, so this is me figuring out how to do them in circles. To be honest, I prefer the straight line version better but considering this is filmed on a tripod in a garage, I’m not complaining.
00:18 Hidden hand frame grabs are kinda gimmicky but give the trick a completely different feel from the seat grab version. This is just a fun version of a combo I’ve done before with that slight variation.
00:38 And because I did a forward rolling undertaker, I needed to do the backward rolling version as well. Done in circles, these are pretty fun, and sweaty.
00:50 Another hidden hand frame grab combo…
01:07 The rainiest day of May fell on a weekend so I was forced to ride in a humid hot box for at least an hour. I hadn’t done the half stubbleduck exit in a long time and sweated out half my body weight making it happen this day.
01:25 Right around this time of the month, I was dearly missing undertakers with the brake, so I decided to do an opposite one where my left hand grabbed the back brake.
01:43 Hitchhiker to backwards hitchhiker. Because I’m spoiled and have a brakeless setup, I never really do any brakeless type stuff on the brake bike. But I decided to try one and it came out okay. This sent me down a juggler wormhole for the remainder of the month…
02:03 Hitchhiker seat pass juggler to one-hand whip juggler to around the world to the sweet sounds of Stevie Nicks.
02:22 Hitchhiker seat pass juggler x 2 to one-hand whip juggler. This will probably become a majority of my June riding so consider this your warning.
02:35 After a few chiropractor sessions, my doctor found that my right humerus bone was out of socket. Once she moved it back, the tendonitis pain started to go away almost overnight. And to cap off the month, I decided to try my first undertaker since March 31.

And that’s all I’ve got, plus a few other rejects that I might put up mid-month that involve squeakers and didn’t look as cool as they felt. ” – Brian Tunney

Brian Tunney – April 2023 Clips

May 1, 2023

Check out what Brian Tunney got into in April!

We’re always looking forward to Brian Tunney‘s new video at the start of every month. Today is May 1st and right on schedule Brian delivers with a new one! Hit play to check out what he got into during his garage flatland sessions over the course of the month. As always, Brian delivers with some great riding, along with a song selection you probably haven’t heard before. Check it!

“It’s been a long month, and I am currently dealing with some right arm tendonitis spurred on by the second trick in this video. No surprise, undertaker forearm is a real thing as I cleared the year 48 mark and turned 49.

So instead, inspired by the “old school” feel of that second trick (which I actually filmed on March 31), I decided to try to make most of April a tribute to some classic tricks of my childhood, including smith decades, elbow glides and infinity rolls. (Let’s be honest here: that’s what most of my videos are anyway.) Some of this is very old, some of this is very old but things I never bothered to learn. And some of it, like the “dancing” smith decades, were just things I saw in videos that I tried, did a few of it, and decided I don’t need to do anymore.

As for trick 1: All year long so far, I’ve been doing pinky squeaks to walkaround g-turn hitch commensurate with the month, so in January I did one pinky squeak, Feb I did two, March I did three, and on April 29, I finally did four. I thought for a brief moment about keeping the trend going all year long, but multiple pinky squeaks is straight up cardio and my garage isn’t big enough for five. So I think it ends at four, for now.

Song by The National, thanks for dealing with an old man, the haircut and the new spin on some older moves.” – Brian Tunney
