Typically when I shoot photos these days it’s for a specific purpose. Either for a print project, an ESPN feature, something for my column, something for an ad, catalog or anything else a company might need photos for etc. In some cases though I have shot photos over the years that never end up going anywhere but my hard drive. Typically it’s just that they become leftovers and aren’t needed at the moment. Other reasons include riders changing sponsors. For example, if you shoot a rider that is wearing a pair of Etnies and then they get sponsored by Vans you can’t really do anything with the photo of them wearing the Etnies anymore. It sucks but that’s just how it works. Either way though, that is why I love doing this column because I have complete creative control meaning that I get to finally give some of these photos a home and give them a bit of shine-time.
Odyssey – Texas Toast Jam 2013 X Dean Dickinson
It looks like Odyssey have appointed Dean Dickinson as the Project Manager for the 2013 Texas Toast Jam. This is awesome for two reasons… One, because Dean knows how to throw a party and two, because that means there’s for sure going to be another Texas Toast Jam! Get stoked.
“We’ve brought on our friend and trusted industry promoter of awesomeness; Dean Dickinson, to project manage this years TEXAS TOAST JAM.
Dean has organized countless jams and events, worked with Justin Kosman on THE HUNT project in 2012, PUT TOGETHER A BOOK and has ridden every pool on earth (probably). Dean is just the person for this role and we are stoked to have him on board. While Dean will be handling the bulk of the planning and organizing for this years Texas Toast Jam, Taj Mihelich will still be working close at hand as Toast’s overall source of guidance and inspiration for 2013.
DEAN has hit the ground running and plans for TTJ 2013 are already underway.
If you wish to be a part of this years Texas Toast Jam, please contact Dean at: [email protected]
Warning: It’s gonna be awesome again!”
Insight: The Rotten Video
Back in September I was talking to Shajn Raines at Interbike about some of the stuff he was working on at the time. Shajn had mentioned that himself and a good number of the Bone Deth crew had been filming with Chris Crawford for the new “Rotten” video that Chris was working on with a bunch of people. Then a few days after Interbike, a trailer dropped giving everyone a glimpse of what was to come and needless to say, it looked like it was going to be absolutely wild. I know I was definitely looking forward to it.
Finally, at the end of January, the 2nd trailer dropped letting everyone see a little more with what was to come. I knew the video was getting close to completion, so I figured it would be a good time to get ahold of Chris to find out just what to expect from this video and when we can expect it to drop. Check out what he had to say!

Sean Fontenot mentioned to me that we should check out the Sunken City in San Pedro, CA. Apparently this is an old city block from the 1930’s that sank into the Pacific Ocean. This was also the shot location of “The Big Lebowski” when they dump Donnie’s ashes into the ocean.
Team Shralp “Chunk-A-Billy” Bowl Bash Jam
This looks like it was a good time!
“For the past decade, Portland BMX rider and documentarian Dean Dickinson has been compiling a material for a self-released book entitled “You Won’t.” The book documents the story of Dean’s quest to ride 100 pools, and features Dickinson’s tales of sketchy pool missions along with photos of each pool ridden, spanning from Washington state to Austin, Texas.
Following the completion of Dean’s hundredth pool, at the Team Shralp Pink Motel Pool Party in May of 2009, Dickinson began compiling everything together into a book project, with help from a creative team that included Mark Lewman, Ryan Davis, Jared Souney, Mike Daily, Taj Mihelich and Justin “the Maestro” Kosman.
As the end of the summer of 2012 approached, the book was completed, and Dickinson got to work on book release parties, along with a bowl jam at the Hood River skatepark in Oregon. With the help of Ben Hucke, the jam was documented in the above video, and features riding from Ron Wilkerson, Hoang Tran, Bruce Crisman, Shad Johnson and more.
Dickinson’s book is now available through the Goods BMX online store. To learn more about “You Won’t,” check the book blog.
