Head First with Skavenger’s Vin Crispino
Head injuries are no joke. Vin Crispino gives you the story about what he had to go through due to the head injury he sustained this past summer. This is pretty graphic, but I think if you’re one of those people who thinks helmets are a waste of money, this might change your mind. Check it out!
“Last March, Skavenger rider and Staten Island, N.Y. resident Vin Crispino attempted to icepick a rail for a photo. He had already grinded the rail and pulled it before. On the second try, he landed in a double peg instead of an icepick and crashed on his head. He fractured bones in his face and skull, and suffered bleeding on his brain. To relieve the pressure in his brain, doctors removed part of his skull, and he underwent two brain surgeries. Eventually, Crispino recovered, and he now advocates for the use of helmets in BMX. In the above video, Crispino details his crash, his surgeries, and the route he took back to recovery. Video by Matt Brown.” – ESPN BMX
Skatepark of Tampa Fourth Annual Roast Jam
Here’s another look at what went down at this years SPOT Roast contest. Don’t forget to check out the video we dropped a little while back right here after this one.
“The fourth Annual SPoT Roast went down in late December at the Skatepark of Tampa (SPoT). I hadn’t been to the legendary SPoT in about 12 years, so I was pretty stoked to go back. Profile’s Matt Coplon put together a pretty amazing weekend including a bowl jam, multi-age am and pro park contest, BBQ, and an afterparty at The Bricks in Ybor City. A lot more people showed up than were expected, which wasn’t a problem since the SPoT is designed for huge crowds. With elevated bleachers surrounding the course, an outdoor courtyard, a massive vert ramp, plus a separate building holding the bowl and another street course, there was plenty of room for everyone. Everything ran smooth and the contestants seemed to be pretty happy about the massive amounts of prizes donated by Profile, Shadow, Subrosa and Vans, along with a host of other BMX brands.
SPoT Roast was the first stop of the Florida BMX Skatepark Series Dave Brumlow put together. BMX in Florida is always a good time so check out the other upcoming dates 1/12 Orlando Skatepark, 2/16 Paradise Funplex, 3/16 COA Pro, and 4/13 Kona.

Jeremy “Zuka” Hacker Benefit Jam Edit
ESPN BMX dropped this edit from the Jeremy “Zuka” Hacker benefit jam. It looks like it was an awesome day filled with some real good riding and positive vibes. Plus, they raised a ton of money for Jeremy which is awesome as hell. Check out this video!
“This past weekend, I found myself in Arizona at my girlfriend’s parents house. Three hours away, in Phoenix, a jam was being held to raise funds for Jeremy ‘Zuka’ Hacker. Zuka was diagnosed with leukemia several weeks ago, and started chemotherapy treatment recently.
Through Facebook, I was able to find a rider from the town I was in, who had an open spot in his car and was willing to drive with a complete stranger to go and support Zuka. (He had never met Zuka either.) It might sound crazy, but that’s BMX. Zuka is the only rider I know to ride at his own cancer benefit while undergoing chemotherapy, and at the end of the day, around $5000 was raised for his medical bills.
Donations are being accepted for Hacker’s cancer fund through Paypal at 25nine (at) gmail dot com.” – Charlie Crumlish / ESPN BMX
