Daniel Martinez Cruising L.A.

August 11, 2011

“Today we meet up with Volume Bikes’ very own street wizard Daniel Martinez to ride one of Los Angeles’ newest skateparks, fully equipped with the ever-so-popular street plaza and a full length old school snake run. Then, after his quick warm up session, we head to his old stomping grounds in Monterey Park to revisit some street nib spots he used to ride as a youngster.” – Tommy Blanco / ESPN

Chris McMahon’s BMX Roadtrip to Central California

August 8, 2011

“About a month before the Mosqueda Summer Pro/Am, I decided that it would be a good idea to turn a one-day trip to Fresno into a three-day roadtrip with a few friends. S&M’s CJ Arnold, Stephen Perjanik, and Solid’s Tanner Easterla all agreed to come along for the ride, and, after some discussion and planning, a loose plan was formed to spend two days in Fresno, and to ride Modesto on the way back.
The trip ended up being a real good time, with the guys catching clips on Friday and Saturday at several Fresno street spots, as well as the Todd Beamer skatepark and Woodward Park dirt jumps, before heading to Mosqueda for the Pro/Am. Getting an invite to a post-jam party at Sanctuary, a BMX bed and breakfast located in Oakhurst, we decided to check out the party and ride Sanctuary’s air-conditioned indoor ramp setup on Sunday morning before heading home, by way of Modesto.
Thanks to Fresno’s Jason Johnson, Joey Ceppaglia, and Ryan Garcia, Waylon and the rest of the crew at Sanctuary, and Modesto’s Bob Randel and Anthony Renda.

VX-Games 17 According to Miles Rogoish

August 4, 2011

“One more X Games 17 post, but it’s definitely worth it. If you’re watching X Games 17 on TV, you got to see runs from the finalists. Unfortunately, that leaves a lot of the amazing riding that went down before the contest unseen. Miles Rogoish made the two-hour drive up to Los Angeles, scrounged up a media pass, and used his trusty old VX to film the above video. It’s not highlighted runs in a contest — it’s just the best of what happens before the final event goes down. And it’s well worth a watch. Video by Miles Rogoish.” – ESPN

Coco Zurita Profile

August 4, 2011

“Last week, just prior to X Games BMX Vert, we were scheduled to post a profile video with Chilean vert sensation Coco Zurita. Coco, as many of you might know, is the very stylish vert pro that can blast a vert ramp almost better than anyone in the pro vert class right now. His style, for lack of a better description, is that of a vert version of Ruben Alcantara. And yes, it’s awesome to watch.

Unfortunately, Coco stepped down on his foot the day before X Games 17, fracturing his ankle in the process and eliminating any chance he would have of riding in X Games 17 Vert and Big Air. So there our profile sat, unused, while Coco hobbled around at X Games, unable to ride. But the video is still great, so we’re featuring it this week in a rare version of “things you missed out on at X Games 17.” Video by Shad Hopkins.” – ESPN

Joe Rich Bike Check

August 1, 2011

Sandy Carson caught up with Joe Rich to take a look at his Terrible One setup. You can get a closer look by hitting the ESPN site. They say the Cyclops stem will be available soon… but they have been saying that for 2 years. I’m still planning on buying one the day it does come out. Hurry up, Joe!

Act Like You Know – Ryan Howard “Still Here” Scraps

July 27, 2011

“Earlier this year, Ohio’s Act Like You Know crew released “Still Here,” the follow up to their first video, featuring sections from Bobby Simmons, Brandon Galosi, Matt Skaggs, Jason White, Scotty Wemmer, Torey Kish and Ryan Howard. Filmed throughout New York and Ohio, “Still Here” was released with an Act Like You Know zine, in understated and well designed packaging. And of course, the video was ridiculous.

Now a few months after the DVD’s worldwide release, we present Ryan Howard’s “extras” from “Still Here,” which is equally as ridiculous as the entire DVD. Filmed and edited by Scott Marceau.” – ESPN

TJ Lavin Interview

July 26, 2011

TJ Lavin has a pretty interesting interview up on ESPN where he covers some of his work, accident recovery and more. Hopefully we will be seeing TJ back on his bike sooner than later.

Sport Science: Physics of X

July 25, 2011

Here’s a little science lesson for you out there. If you ever bent or cracked a frame, or blew spokes out on your wheel, this might just explain to you why that happened. There’s some fancy words, but I feel like you will get it because it relates to BMX and features Dakota Roche. Why couldn’t school use examples like this?
