Hoffman Bikes – 25 Year Countdown Compilation
Hoffman Bikes are celebrating 25 years of being in business. Over the course of the past 43 days or so, they have been doing spotlights on a number of their team riders and products that have been apart of their history. Today we get a compilation of footage from all of their team riders that have been apart of Hoffman Bikes in that time span. Needless to say, there have been A LOT of of legends and incredible riders that have been apart of their squad over the years and this is an amazing BMX video that you cannot pass up!
“Over the course of 25 years, many of the legendary riders called Hoffman Bikes home at one point in their riding careers. Riders like Taj Mihelich, Dave Mirra, Jay Miron, Kevin Jones and Joe “Butcher” Kowalski, just to name a few. It has been an honor to have so many great, talented riders ride for Hoffman Bikes. Only a handful of companies have been around as long as Hoffman Bikes. To be able to say that many of the legends today rode for Hoffman Bikes is astonishing.
Since the original 1991 team (Mat Hoffman, Dave Mirra, Rick Thorne, Steve Swope and Davin Hallford), Hoffman Bikes has sponsored 113 plus riders and employed over 30 awesome people. It’s an honor to have so many riders represent and ride our products and to have employees who put their heart and soul into making the Hoffman Bikes dream come true.
With that we leave you with this one hell of a Hoffman Bikes team video which highlights over 70 Hoffman Bike riders of the past 24 years.
Music:
Traindodge “The Raining Room”
Six Star General “Five Years”
Earth Witch “Green Tourch”

Mat Hoffman Blasting Into 25 Years of Hoffman Bikes
To celebrate 25 years of Hoffman Bikes, the crew have been dropping a lot history on their website over the course of the past 45 days or so. Today was the final day that marks 25 years for the company. Mat Hoffman posted the photo of him BLASTING to what we’re pretty sure was a new world record height on a BMX bike this past summer. Some of you may have heard about this if you caught our Skype Interview with Mat, where he told us all about it and gave us the sneak preview. We’ll be seeing a video come from this soon, so keep an eye out for that. It will be mind blowing we’re sure. Until then, check out the story and some inspirational words from Mat below!
“GO ANYWHERE, DO ANYTHING! HOFFMAN BIKES 25 YEARS STRONG!
I started playing around on Big Ramps again. I rode one in March at the Old School get together at Woodward West in Tehachapi, CA. I was pushing 20 feet comfortably and felt I could go higher than I had before. There were a lot of people around and I knew I needed to do this just for myself to get the focus needed. I had been in the ER many times recently, so I second-guessed myself and walked away to prove I could and to give it more consideration. It kept burning bright, so I decided it’s in me and I had to let it come out.
I’ve been riding a lot but also flying wingsuits, which I think has helped me cross train by harnessing aggressive energy better, become one with it and flow, like the big ramp demands. Painting more has helped sharpen my focus too, plus I’m 43 years old (the holy grail of BMX or so we claim), so I decided I was mentally ready to take on the challenge.
Danny Way talked to me earlier in 2015 about designing a ramp to get more air. He wanted to go so high nobody would want to step to it. So he built this ramp (30 feet tall), kept it a secret and was ready to test it out this past May. At the same time, I had committed to push my limits on these big ramps again too, so the timing was perfect… he invited me out for the test ride.
I went out there and had a private session. I set up some unmanned cameras and filmed the whole session(s), which I’ll show later this year. I was able to break my past record. This sketchy pic was one I shot of a camera screen from one of Danny’s friends who captured it at my first session. It’s definitely not print quality but I liked how the style was so much like the original air I did on my original Big Air ramp in 1991, but higher.
It’s now been 25 years since I made a bike I could trust my life with going bigger than ever before. Let my life be an example to never give up, follow your heart and do what you want no matter how many times you’ve been knocked down and people tell you you’re crazy or it’s impossible. Keep getting up and keep your dreams alive. Keep your game true to your heart and push your life’s passions and skills, no matter how ridiculous they may seem to others. Always following your dreams to wherever they lead….
Love Life and make your dreams happen, no matter what! This is what 25 years of Hoffman Bikes is about to me. I was 18 when I set my first high air record. I had to build a bike I could trust my life with to achieve this. Now I’m 43 and I still make a bike that can back my dreams no matter how big they go….

Hoffman Bikes and the Gack Hubs
Over the past few weeks, Hoffman Bikes have been building up to their 25 year anniversary where they have been doing some interesting posts on their website about past team riders, products and really the brand as a whole. One post in particular that they just released caught our eye and will be one of those things that you BMX history nerds will love to see. Hoffman Bikes released a little write up and a bunch of photos of their Gack Hubs that were released in 1994 that featured the first 14mm axles. At this time, 3/8″ axles were standard on front and rear wheels and, needless to say, the increasing level of ramp and street riding was proving too heavy for them. Mat Hoffman and Kris Gack (who later went on to start his own brand “Gack“) worked together to develop the first BMX hubs that had 14mm axles that really changed the way BMX hubs and bikes were able to withstand the abusive riding.
There’s a great write up, along with a ton of awesome photos of the original designs, prototypes and final samples that you can check out over on the Hoffman Bikes website right here — 14mm Gack Hubs
