Rest In Peace, Dominic Trovato

It’s never easy waking up to news that a friend had passed away. This morning was definitely a rough one when we learned that Midwest BMX legend and all around good dude Dominic Trovato had passed. We don’t know the exact details as to what happened but it sounds like he went peacefully in his sleep.
Dominic was a huge driving force behind the Midwest scene in the early 2000’s with the Midwest BMX website that him and Jeff Klugiewicz ran. That site, and Dom, was a huge inspiration to me and a part of what got me so into doing websites (which is a part of why The Union is here today). Not only that, but Dom was one hell of a rider and one of the finest to come out of the Midwest. Although he didn’t ride as much these days, we always heard rumors that he would show up to a session and crush it like he had been riding every day. Dom had natural talent and was one amazing guy off the bike.
Everyone will miss him greatly and he will never be forgotten… Ride in Peace, Dom!

Ray’s Bike Park Milwaukee – Rookie of the Year 2015 Video

The 2nd annual Rookie of the Year contest went down at Ray’s Bike Park in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 31st where riders from all over the Midwest from the beginners up through the expert, pro and Masters (40+) all came together for a day filled with good times and plenty of riding! Here’s a video giving us a look at just what went down!

The Union Winter Session 2015

The past few years we have partnered up with Over The Top Skatepark here in Minnesota to throw our annual BV JAM that has always been a good time! After doing contests for the last few, we decided to mix things up a bit and just throw a massive session at the park as an excuse to get everyone together to ride, have a good time and get hooked up with a ton of FREE product from our sponsors!

THIS IS NOT A CONTEST

The Union Winter Jam is going down February 14th from Noon – 8PM! It’ll be $10 at the door like a normal session! The main goal of this is to get everyone together to ride and have a fun session since it’s pretty hard to get motivated when the wind chill is -35 degrees like it has been a few times this winter! We’ll be throwing different mini jams throughout the day like a rail jam, best trick on different setups, foot down, longest skid, the vert wall sticker challenge and more to win product! Also, we’ll be doing a big product toss at the end with everything we don’t give away throughout the day!

So, if you’re looking for a good time. Get to Over the Top Skatepark at Bluff Valley Campground in Zumbro Falls, Minnesota on February 14th! We promise it will be a good time!

In a world where, thanks to technology, we see countless videos on a daily basis, there’s definitely an appreciation for film work that has a lot of quality, time and effort put into it in comparison to 15 second clips filmed during a quick session. Our good friend JC Pieri is an example of a film maker that is always producing high quality videos that really show more than just the crazy riding that went down. The other day we were fortunate enough to get a sneak preview of his latest video project “GTTNSIDEWAYS” that he worked on with Coco Zurita. This video is much more than just your typical BMX video and incorporates some amazing locations, Coco’s motorcycle, car and riding and some great film work. We were beyond psyched on this video, so we figured it would be cool to talk to JC and Coco to find out a little bit of what went into the 10 days they spent working on the video! Check out the interview below along with the trailer. The full video will be online February 15th and you will not be disappointed!
