Neil Waddington – Area 51

December 14, 2024

Neil Waddington is still crushing it at 51!

We have seen more and more riders keeping up with the sessions going into their 40’s and 50’s these days, and it has been awesome to see. Neil Waddington hit us with a link to his latest video filmed over the course of the past year as he crushed ramps, trails, flatland and the race track at 51 years of age. It is safe to say he’s not slowing down any time soon after watching this one!

“It’s been a hell of a year. I’ve taken a “Ride Everything” approach to bmx as Ive got older and so the edit features clips of me riding park, dirt, flat, and racing in the British Cycling National series.

If someone had told when I was in my 20s that Id still be riding, progressing and having fun on a bmx in my 50s Id probably have been sceptical. But it seems that the older riding scene worldwide is constantly re-defining what an older rider is capable of and the age ceiling for bmx seems to be getting higher and higher. Im constantly stoked to see how far the older scene is still pushing it and it’s so rad to see so many guys in their 50s still out there killing it. Long may it continue!” – Neil Waddington

Neil Waddington – Full Circle 2023

November 22, 2023

Neil Waddington celebrates turning 50 with this new BMX video!

This is awesome. Neil Waddington recently hit level 5 and to celebrate he put together this new video packed with park, street, trails and racing footage! Neil brings a good mix of tricks with plenty of front brake magic making for an awesome watch. Not too many guys are crushing it at 50 like Neil is, so we’re stoked to see this.

“I turned 50 just 5 days into 2023.

I guess some people throw a huge party to mark their 50th birthday, or book a cruise, or buy a motorbike (or whatever they feel is missing).

However I kind of went a different route. I decided that rather than going gently into that good bmx night and doing less and less riding (there’s always an easy excuse to hand), Id instead do MORE of what I love, ie MORE bmx.
I’d mark my 50th trip around the sun by trying to cram as much god damm bmx into the 12 months as I could. Park, Dirt, Flat, Street, and I even start Racing, Id try to do it all.

So this edit is what BMX at 50 looked like for me.” – Neil Waddington

Neil Waddington – Who Cares?

August 4, 2022

Neil Waddington – Who Cares? 2022.mp4 from Neil Waddington on Vimeo.

Now this is awesome. Neil Waddington sent through a link to his latest video as he prepares to turn 50 years old. Despite being a little older, Neil is still crushing it an having a ton of fun on ramps, street spots, dirt and whatever else he comes across. It’s been awesome seeing more and more older riders who are able to keep pushing and progressing, even if it isn’t quite as easy as when they were young!

“At the wrong side of 49 years old this is the last edit I’ll make before I hit the big 5-0. It represents the last 12-16 months of my riding at various spots, parks, trails and jams.

I’ll not pretend it’s easy these days what with recurring injuries, an ageing body, work and family commitments, but I hope its provides some inspiration that you can still ride and progress well into your older age.

They say 50 is the new 40 (whatever that means) so I intend to keep pushing, working hard, and (hopefully) progressing well into my 50’s and I still get the same feeling from every single grind, jump, and skid that I did when I was 14.

I’ve been running Ride On bmx for 7 years now. Its a group that organises comps, jams, and posts articles for riders over the age of 30 (our core audience being mostly in their 40s). We’ve got 8000 members from all over the globe ranging from 30 to 70 year old! If you want to join then hit us up on Facebook at RideOnBMX or my insta waddy_rideonbmx.

Hope you enjoy it.

Ride On.” – Neil Waddington

Brett Downs – 53

August 12, 2021

It’s been awesome seeing so many riders staying on their bikes well into their 40’s and 50’s these days. Neil Waddington threw a video contest for Ride On and Brett Downs ended up taking the win for the 50+ class with some real solid ramp riding and flatland action. Hit play and check it out. You can view all of the 50’s+ submissions, along with the 40+ class videos over on the Ride On Vimeo Page!

Ride On 2020 – The Things We’ve Seen

May 27, 2020

The older guys coming through to show you how it’s done! Neil Wddington just dropped this new Ride On mix featuring a ton of the 30 + guys out crushing it during sessions on street, skateparks, trails and flatland. This one will definitely get the older guys stoked, and hopefully show the younger generation that you can keep riding forever if you want to! Awesome watch from start to finish!

Neil Waddington – Probably Alright

December 6, 2019

Here’s a rad one Neil Waddington sent through from his 2019 sessions for you to enjoy! Neil filmed these during his park, dirt and flatland sessions he caught. This year he wanted to push himself and not let his age get in the way of trying things he used to do or always wanted to try. It looks like it lead to a good year to us! Hit play and enjoy a bunch of great riding!

“If there was a theme to my approach to riding this year then it was probably this… Don’t tell myself that I can’t do/try something just because Im 46.

Over the past few years I’d go to parks and see a line I’d love to do but then tell myself “That’s something I’d do in my 20’s but not in my 40’s”.

This year I tried to change that…sometimes I made it…and sometimes I didn’t. But generally over the course of the year I felt better for giving things a try rather than giving them a miss!” – Neil Waddington

We Are Ride On

February 1, 2018

Whoever said “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks” clearly didn’t ride BMX…

Now this kicks a ton of ass! Neil Waddington uploaded this new one called “We Are Ride On” that features a TON of the older guys out crushing it on their bikes, getting down on street spots, skateparks and trails. This video features riders as young as 35 and there’s even a 60 and a couple 50’s in there! This shows that despite a little age, some wear an tear on the bones and joints, that you can enjoy riding BMX far longer than when you’re “just a kid”. If you feel like you’re getting “too old” to ride BMX… Think again! Shout out to every single rider in this!
