New York Grands BMX Race 2018

July 17, 2018

The annual New York Grands race went down the other day. Check out this video from the race!

For the past 8 years, there’s been a wild race that puts a ton of riders on a race through New York City hitting a bunch of set points before getting to the finish line. The New York Grands seems to get bigger every year and the race never fails to look insane with everyone dodging traffic, skitching and everything. This year was no different and Sam Downs documented the whole thing. Check it out!

“This is the 8th annual New York Grands BMX race presented by @bicyclefilmfestival. Racers started from lower Manhattan and raced through the city into Brooklyn, where a finish line party was waiting for them at @tendertrapbk.

Riders had two checkpoints to hit, one in Brooklyn and one in Manhattan. In addition to a hole-shot prize, for the first time ever, a long Jump contest took place DURING the race!

Thank you to all the sponsors that made this possible:

2017 New York Grands Alleycat Race

June 28, 2017

The annual New York Grands race went down the other weekend and a huge group of riders tore through New York cCity hitting checkpoints, dodging traffic and all racing to get to the finish line first. Here’s a video giving you a POV look at what the race was like! It’s kind of crazy not seeing Tyrone Williams not on that top spot!

“Over the course of the Bicycle Film Festival in NYC, 40+ of the quickest street-wise riders came together for the annual NY Grands race. This year, instead of cutting through open Brooklyn streets, the course wove its way through the heart of Manhattan. The fastest dudes in the city were gunning for a $500 cash purse, number plates for the top five finishers, and the title that comes along with winning one of the wildest BMX events this city has ever seen. Congrats to all who finished. This race was dedicated to the memory of Dave Preston Rodebaugh.

5.75 miles of red lights and tight traffic
19 minutes and 49 seconds – my time for 6th place
Average speed of 17.42mph
