2015 has been the year for some heavy progression when it comes to flips on a BMX bike. Jed Mildon did a Quadruple backflip, then Ryan Williams did a triple front flip… Now today we get to see the third* (not sure if that’s actually fact or not) rider, Brandon Schmidt, in the world pull a triple backflip. One thing all of these guys have in common? They’re all apart of the Nitro Circus crew. What’s even crazier is that Jed is the only one who rides BMX professionally, where the other two just do it for fun with their focus on other stuff. Either way, here’s a video giving you a look at Brandon putting in the work and landing the triple backflip.
Travis Pastrana Announces the Nitro World Games
Just when you thought Travis Pastrana and Nitro Circus have done it all, they end up bringing a whole new idea to the party. The Nitro World Games is going to be a huge contest that will go down in one day, July 16th in Salt Lake City, Utah. Based on the press release, it sounds like it will feature BMX best trick and BMX triples as part of this concept that will also feature Moto-X, skateboarding, inline, scooters and more, but it will feature a different format than something like the X-Games. Travis has a huge focus on safety for this event, which will feature resi landings on all of the ramps, which are used on all of the Nitro Circus show ramps. There won’t be any dirt, no vert ramp, no street course… Essentially this is just going to be a three hour huck fest over some huge ramps with the goal of re-igniting the action sports industry by grabbing the attention of people that don’t ride. From our perspective, these guys are doing a good job of hyping it up, but we’ll have to see how it all goes down before we can really gauge how progressive and beneficial to the BMX and action sports industry. It would be good to see a street course, vert ramp and dirt course to really expose BMX and skateboarding, but maybe that will be part of it if things go well the first go around and they get the chance to send it again.
Either way, expect things to get crazy on July 16th in Salt Lake City, Utah and hope this is going to draw in more riders, because we can always use more riders! Get a look at the course concept design below!
“On December 7, 2015, Nitro Circus (http://www.nitrocircus.com), NBC Sports, Utah Governor Gary R. Herbert and the Utah Sports Commission announced the inaugural Nitro World Games coming to Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, July 16, 2016. The biggest event in the history of action sports, the Nitro World Games is a riveting three-hour experience – airing live in the U.S. on NBC during prime time – that marks a revolutionary transformation of action sports competition. Created by extreme sports icon Travis Pastrana with Nitro Circus CEO and Creative Director Michael Porra, the Nitro World Games will feature the best athletes from across the globe in action sports’ most exciting and popular disciplines, including freestyle motocross (FMX), BMX, skate, inline, scooter and more.”
One Night at the Nitro Circus
Growing up, the idea of going to the circus consisted of seeing a bunch of wild animals you normally wouldn’t see, crazy acts, full grown adults decked out as clowns and sometimes some cool stuff like motorcycles, cannons and fire. It seems like over the years people have started to crave seeing crazier things thanks to TV and the internet essentially desensitizing them. So, when it comes to entertaining people, it better be pretty damn wild to make it worth while… At least for people who are more into action sports and “adrenaline junkies”.
By now, there’s no denying that you have heard of the Nitro Circus. Between the TV shows and the constant flow of crazy videos popping up on Youtube, it’s hard to miss them. Travis Pastrana has essentially formed this massive crew of crazy people from BMX riders to freestyle motocross, scooters, rollerblades, skateboards and pretty much a few guys who are just crazy enough to send it on whatever they can take a ride on. Since the show took off, they started touring to stadiums around the world doing shows filled with wild riding, never before done’s and a lot of goofy stuff just to see if it could be done or to get peoples reaction. Add in two hype men, one being BMX’s own Andy Zeiss, some loud music and plenty of fire… You’re bound to get people pretty excited…
Nitro Circus – Ryan Williams: Nothing Front Bike Flip
Here’s one we expected to see pop up online after seeing it done in person during the Nitro Circus show in Minneapolis last night. Watch Ryan Williams pull another first and sent a nothing front bike flip… Yeah, he lets go as the bike flips forward, then he grabs back on and lands. He must have this one dialed in because he pulled it first go last night. So amazing.
Nitro Circus – “Action Figures” Trailer
When we got the email saying Nitro Circus Action Figures out soon, we figured they would be having some actual action figures that would be at Wal-Mart or something. Turns out “Action Figures” is actually a full-length video basically showing you a ton of crazy shit these guys have been up to. Check the trailer and get stoked.
“Less than a month away! Action Figures will be available for digital download on October 20.
For a sneak peak, check out an edit from one of our very own Action Figures Gavin Godfrey: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt80E…
About Action Figures:
Action Figures is the directorial debut of Travis Pastrana, Nitro Circus founder and 17-time X Game medalist, a film he wrote, directed, and produced alongside his best friends from the world of action sports and in association with Nitro Circus.
It is a first of a kind film by these modern day action heroes in which each athlete contributed to filming and editing their section of the film. Action Figures is an energy packed, high octane, wild ride of a film that is both an ode to the old school action sports videos and a bold step forward in filmmaking and extreme human performance. This is Travis Pastrana’s personal passion project in which he makes the dream stunts of his close friends become reality. It is one crazy ride with Travis at the wheel as his friends achieve multiple worlds’ firsts along the way.
These real life Action Figures will push their bodies and minds to conquer the impossible and ignite action sports entertainment.”
Nitro Circus – Ryan Williams: The Worlds First Triple Front Flip
The Nitro Circus crew have really been pushing limits lately. Earlier this year Jed Mildon pulled a Quadruple Backflip on a BMX bike, now they put Andrew Ahumada and Ryan Williams head to head to see who could pull a triple front flip first! This video is pretty brutal watching the slams they took, but damn is that one Ryan landed insane. Check it!
Jed Mildon Interview
If you haven’t heard the name Jed Mildon before, you’re completely blowing it. Jed has been one of those riders that is all about pushing boundaries and setting records for years now and it’s been hard to not take notice. A few months back he was the first guy to pull a quadruple backflip on a BMX bike (and the video has nearly 11,000,000 views!) to go along with a handful of other firsts he has already done. With the Nitro Circus crew about to kick their world tour back up, we figured it would be a good time to catch up with Jed and find out a little bit more about him. Let’s see what he had to say!
Name: Jed Mildon

Jed Mildon – The Worlds First Quadruple Backflip
Watch as Jed Mildon and James Foster went head to head to pull the worlds first quadruple backflip on a BMX bike! These guys both took some SUPER heavy slams chasing this one, but it looks like Jed was able to pull it off after quite a few attempts. Who remembers when Dave Mirra pulled off the double backflip for the first time? Kind of crazy to think this is two of those in one go, even though the Nitro Circus ramp is absolutely nuts and built for this kind of trick. Watch him do it right here!
