Scott Towne – All I Got

January 1, 2022

Here’s one we’re real stoked on! Scott Towne dropped this new one filled with park, street and trails clips he’s been filming over the past few months to wrap up 2021 right! Good vibes and real solid riding throughout this one, making it a BMX video you won’t be disappointed with. Hit play and enjoy!

“It’s what I think about every day. “Where & what am I riding?” I have nothing to prove to anyone at this point, not even to myself. I just want to keep going. This collection of clips was filmed primarily between October and December, 2021. There is more I wanted to include, but the tricks and lines were either too much for me to complete or otherwise evaded me. The Super 8 film footage was shot by me (except that of me) in the mid-90s and is interlaced to break up the tabletop clips. Thanks for watching. It’s all I got.” — Scott Towne

What BMX Was Like In 1979

April 4, 2018

If you have wondered what BMX was like in 1979, this BMX video will answer a few questions…

It’s always interesting seeing the difference of BMX in the past versus what it’s like today. Virtually everything has changed from the bikes and clothes to the tricks and styles. One thing that has stayed the same is that it’s a whole lot of fun. We had this video sent over featuring the Plainwell crew riding back in 1979 at the track, some trails and a few questionable ramp setups to jump over things like cars. It features a few names you might know like Stompin’ Stu Thomsen or Scott Towne, and a few names you might not recognize. Either way, this is pretty interesting to check out!

“Super 8 Movie BMX footage from 1979, with Plainwell BMX locals: Larry & Ted Lowis, Scott Towne, Jeff Bragington, Ben Lyon. Star cameos by Stu Thomsen, Turnell Henry and the wheelie king, the late Doug Domokos.” – Scott Towne

Dan’s Comp Cuts Entire Team and Team Manager Scott Towne

September 23, 2017

Well, here’s some interesting news… Dan’s Comp team manager, Scott Towne, has apparently been let go from his job according to an Instagram post. Also, according to a post over on Ride BMX, it sounds like the entire Pro Team has also been cut and Dan’s Comp may be filing for bankruptcy at some point. The team, which consists of Terry Adams, Mark Burnett, Stevie Churchill, Chase DeHart, Tony Hamlin, Van Homan, Trey Jones, Chad Kerley, Morgan Long, Corey Martinez, Tony Neyer, Broc Raiford, Dakota Roche, Devon Smillie, Nathan Sykes, Colin Varanyak, Shane Weston, Matt Wilhelm, Nathan Williams and Grant Castelluzzo, was mostly formed by Scott during his time with Dan’s Comp as the team manager.

We’ve been hearing rumors and bits and pieces about Dan’s Comp’s “financial situation” for the past year from a few brands, riders and industry people, but didn’t really know what to think of it. This would be an indicator they’re making some big changes to reconcile whatever it is they have going on. Below is the Instagram post from Scott that doesn’t get too specific, but leaves plenty of bits to piece together.

"You can't be what you were, so you better start being just what you are…." This Fugazi lyric has been on continuous play in my mind lately, pondering what my life will be like after my days at Dan's Competition are over. Well, I'm about to find out. After seven years with the company, I'm officially done. My mission was to make Dan's human, and I feel I was able to accomplish that goal, and much more. It was a good run. I want to thank Steve at Dans for letting me create my own job and run with it, Ernesto for being my "foot in the door" and everyone I've worked with, inside the walls and out. Additionally, I wish my remaining co-workers the best of luck?. To all the team dudes, it's been awesome. I'm proud to have assembled a line-up of some of the best riders in BMX. So yeah, that's that. On to the next one.

I guess if we had to speculate what is going on, I think it’s just that times have been changing very hard for the business side of BMX with a transition to pretty much every brand (except a few) and virtually every single BMX bike shop making the move to sell online in some capacity, creating greater competition for Dan’s in the online mail-order space that they have dominated for so many years. Does this mean it’s the end of Dan’s Comp? I highly doubt it. We’ll probably see a huge cutback in marketing (beyond the removal of the team) and a shift in how much product they stock and the number of brands they carry, which we have noticed that has been happening already. There has been a number of products on backorder or completely out of stock for a little while now. Obviously this is all speculation, but we’ve been hearing a lot of these things for a while now.

We haven’t seen anything from Dan’s Comp and we don’t really expect to see any sort of press release or anything. But, we’ll keep you updated when and if we hear something.

Scott Towne Interview About Dan’s Comp’s “Roll Call”

November 8, 2013

Hit up Vital BMX to check out an interview with Dan’s Comp‘s team manager, Scott Towne, about his role as TM along with a bunch of info what it took to get the “Roll Call” DVD done! Can’t wait to see this video!

Scott Towne – Keep Rolling

February 5, 2013

Last year, Scott Towne dedicated the entire year to riding. His goal was to ride one of his bikes for at least a couple minutes every single day of the year. He met that goal by riding 366 days in a row. This is a video he put together of clips and photos he filmed throughout the year documenting the challenge. So stoked on this one. Hell yeah, Scott!

“366 days, 366 sessions. Filmed October-December 2012 with an Apple iPhone 4. Lots of nibling, nothing special. Dedicated to those who can’t or won’t. I heart BMX.“

Scott Towne – Thinking of You

June 24, 2011

“Filmed by a fat old guy June 19-21, 2011. Dedicated to the following individuals: Kelly Baker, John Kiernan, Jeff Venekamp, Solan Foster, Lotus White, Greg Grubbs, Phil Rase, Todd Britton, Charlie Williams, Darrell Young, Scot Breithaupt, Chris Hatfield, Fro Ardelean, Jammin’ Jan Holeshot Hardy, Brian Miller, Steve Crandall, Tom Perigo and everyone who’s presence is felt every time I get on the bike. Chris Yankee RIP, Chris Newman RIP, always in my heart.” – Scott Towne
