Dirt Bros. – Manuel De La Cruz “Cheese” Section (1994)

March 7, 2019

Snakebite BMX uploaded another gem from the Dirt Bros. “Cheese” video that came out way back in 1994! This time around we get a look at Manuel De La Cruz‘s section that has a mix of street, park and trails footage. I didn’t personally know much about this guy until I saw the section and got the full scoop from the text that came with the video, and it’s pretty awesome. Manuel was definitely ahead of his time and was definitely crushing it. Check out this video and get psyched!

“Underground San Diego shredder, Manuel De La Cruz, earned national notoriety for being the first documented rider to grind down a legit handrail without brakes and without wearing any pads. At the time, most riders were still used to seeing the pros wear a full face helmet or at least full pads to double-peg a rail. So, when Manuel started bombing huge handrails with out safety gear, it was pretty shocking. While he may have been known for hitting big rails, Manuel also got down on ramps, dirt, and had some impressive flatland moves. I’ve gotten to hang out with Manuel a few times since I moved to San Diego, and have always found him to be a generous, humble, and likeable guy who is still really stoked on BMX. Using “Egypt, Egypt” from the 1984 album On the Nile by Egyptian Lover was a stroke of genius, and helped make Manuel’s section one of the more memorable ones from Cheese. Enjoy!!

Dirt Bros. – “Cheese” Crash Section (1994)

February 28, 2019

BMX has changed a lot since 1994 when the “Cheese” video from the Dirt Bros crew was originally released, but one thing that has stayed the same is that crashing SUCKS. Here’s the crash section from the video that features heavy slams, nut shots, shinners, possible broken tail bones and more. Hit play and take in all the pain!

Dirt Bros. – Aaron Krueger “Cheese” Section (1994)

February 27, 2019

Snakebite BMX coming through with another section from the Dirt Bros. “Cheese video that came out back in 1994 for you to check out! This time around we get a look at Aaron Krueger’s section that has a ton of trails action with a mix of street and ramps in there as well for good measure. Take a look!

“Prior to watching Cheese, I was aware of Aaron Krueger from a photo of him riding a ditch in an early issue of RIDE, and also from the 2-Hip and B.S. contests. Aaron was a regular at these events, and between 1992 and 1994 he consistently placed in the top 5 of the beginner, and then intermediate class, of every contest he attended. (Not an easy thing to do, since those classes were usually stacked with expert level riders who understandably refused to move up a class and compete against more well known names.) Anyway, here’s Aaron getting down 90s style on some ramps, street, and dirt. Check it out!

Riders include: Sean Yarrol, Vic Murphy, Manuel De La Cruz, Brad Blanchard, Ronnie Farmer, Dana Czeck, Ken Hale, Chad Herrington, Dave Young, Tony Skojack, Aaron Krueger, Eddie Roman, and plenty more. Last week we learned that Paul Buchanan passed away, leaving a lot of riders shocked and saddened to hear about the late BMX legend. Since word got out, there has been some of Paul’s footage making its way online. The guys at Snakebite BMX uploaded this gem which is filled with raw clips of Paul riding a backyard ramp setup in Washington back in 1997. Mat Hoffman – “Clowns Full of Hate” 1991

February 11, 2018

Check out some classic Mat Hoffman footage from way back in 1991!

What were you doing in 1991? I was about 3 years old, so I was probably doing something along the lines of nothing notable. However, back in 1991, Mat Hoffman was already crushing it on a BMX bike. Here’s some footage of Mat getting some riding in at Jeff Harris’ warehouse that was originally released in the “Clowns Full Of Hate” VHS tape.
