Through The Lens – Fact Check with Mark Mulville

This week’s column happened as organically as any. It was one of those things where I was waiting until the last minute to see what happens and luckily I recently ran into one of my good friends Mark Mulville and decided to sit him down and get him to share some facts about himself with the BMX world. We spent some time in the middle of nowhere Pennsylvania chillin, getting some coffee and putting this piece together. It’s always a good time running into old friends and in true “TTL” fashion, I had no idea what I was going to do for #76 until yesterday. It wouldn’t really feel right if I didn’t wait until the last minute to commit to a column and every time it makes me realize how hard it can be to keep up on this series week after week. On that note, Mark has been killing it lately… traveling, filming, enjoying life and sharing positive vibes along the way. Subrosa – Combat Lock

Take a look at this rad video they put together giving you a look at some of the uses that it’s best for and some that are not so ideal. This is an awesome thing to have if you find yourself in sketchy spots from time to time.

“The Subrosa Combat lock is a small, convenient, short term theft deterrent designed to add a bit of protection to your ride when you’re riding around and don’t want to be a victim of the infamous “Grab and Dash”.
This lock works best in situations like grabbing a drink at a convenience store or locking your bike up while you film a friend at a spot. Any situation where you can keep an eye on your bike but are out of arms reach of it.
Deterrent locks are a great way to discourage any would-be thieves from snatching up your prized possessions, but not intended for any long term use or high security situations.
The Subrosa Combat Lock features a high impact ABS composite case with 1.2mm thick stainless steel cable and a die cast SK5 steel latch and includes 2 keys.

However, that hasn’t stopped brands from dropping a few new items lately along with some already dialed parts that have been out for a little bit now. Insight: Subrosa “Get Used To It”

Over the years, a lot of videos have come and gone. Some better than others, some based off week long trips and some based around a few years of hard work and effort. The Subrosa “Get Used To It” video is one of those that falls into the categories of better than others and a few years of hard work.

There are a lot of things that go into making a BMX DVD these days and I think at times with how fast the internet works, a lot of people seem to forget that things they’re seeing could have been years of work cut down into a 40 minute video that you can just pop in and watch before heading out for a session.

We figured with “Get Used To It” being out for a little while now, it would be a good time to catch up with Ryan Sher and talk a little bit about what actually went into creating this video that has been getting a lot of good reviews since its release. You better believe with nearly 3 years of time, effort, broken cameras, team changes, filmer changes, flights, blood, awesome spots, amazing riding and good times, that there’s a story behind it.
