Eric LIchtenberger is one of the most chill people I know. Some how during all of this chilling, he has been mega busy with a Ride BMX cover, BMX Plus interview and a fresh signature colorway with Sunday. I figured it would probably be a good time to get an update out of the guy and find out what else is new in his life. Jim Cielencki also hooked it up with a bunch of screen grabs from some video stuff they are working on that looks to be real good. So let’s check out what he had to say…

“The Vans social media crew is at it again with their newest episode of Waffle Soup airing live with BMX Pro Rider Dakota Roche TODAY, Nov. 16 at 5PM PST / 8PM EST. Hang out, ask questions and hear what’s on Dakota’s mind!”
I’ve dropped the embed code in so you should be able to watch and chat with him here, but if that’s not working for you, hit this link.
Damn… This sounds rad. I’m excited to check out these shoes! You won’t want to miss this one if you are in the area!
“On December 3rd, 2011 almost the entire Colony team will be in Adelaide, South Australia. It’s all to help promote the up coming Vans / Colony collaboration shoe release. There will be two new models based off the Vans Wylie & Vans Milo shoes with Colony artwork. These will be out in March next year.
Ryan Guettler, Alex Hiam, Zac Miner, Mick Bayzand, Cooper Brownlee, Tom Stretton, Liam Zingbergs, Brock Olive, Valvo & myself will be there.
We will be having an in-store at Little Black Bike at 1pm & then a ride at the city park at 3pm. Come along, meet the team, get some freebies & then let’s all have a ride. Should be a great day.” – Colony
It’s crazy to think about how important Vans is to BMX. The number of amazingly talented riders they keep riding with a pay check or hook up with fresh shoes and the crazy number of events they put on all over the world are just a small indicator. They’re a big support to keeping things rolling and it’s all due to the Van Doren’s. James Van Doren was the driving force behind the initial start of Vans and even though he hasn’t had involvement in the brand for a number of years, things like the waffle pattern that’s still a choice sole pattern for a number of riders and shoe models wouldn’t exist without him creating it. Sadly, after a number of years battling illness, he has passed away. You can find his full obituary over on the LA Times website. James Van Doren might have just wanted to make shoes his way, but along the way he had impacted the whole world. Rest In Peace, James!
“Vans skaters and Bmx riders join forces to shred a local skatepark on the Guantanamo Bay Naval Base and give the troops a little radness on their Friday afternoon. Of course, snorkel sessions and iguana hunting were mandatory every morning.”- Vans
Here’s a 3D rendering of what the Rebel Jam street course will look like this year. It sounds like they will only have three days to set it up and one day to tear it down. Crazy how fast a good thing can come and go. Now, this 3D rendering isn’t exactly to scale, so there will be changes from what you see here and how it will actually be come contest time. Either way, it looks like this year will be a damn good time. Wish I’d be there.
It’s that time of the year when companies start getting all of their newness in. Caleb recently picked up one of the brand new Hoffman Lady Luck frames and built himself up a new bike. We figured it would be a good time to check out what he’s running these days and find out what else is new in his life. Let’s see what he’s running and what he had to say…
