Odyssey – Preston Okert Welcome To AM
Preston Okert has been given the bump up to the Odyssey AM team! The past two years or so, Preston has been on absolute FIRE taking his speed and style to everything he comes across. This video is a clear indicator of just why Odyssey gave him the well deserved move up the ladder toward the Pro team. Hit play and take it all in!
“Odyssey is stoked to welcome Preston Okert to the AM team! Preston rides everything and is up for anything. He’s a rare breed of all-terrain shredder whose top-notch skills and consistently good attitude make him an easy choice for any trip. He even dropped everything to get on a plane to Australia last month with less than 24 hours notice despite a new job and being 100 miles from an airport without his car…. He made it happen and of course killed it down under. Here’s the master of all-terrain himself Gary Young’s take:
“Preston has back-wheel boogied himself into the hearts of all those around him. His positivity, long smooth lines, and creativity have made him an absolute pleasure to share the deck with. I look forward to seeing where he continues to push his technical and often effortless-looking riding in the years to come.”
Tom Dugan is a big Preston fan too: “I’m looking forward to the long and steezy road ahead of this soon-to-be cold-cut savage. We breaking him in don’t worry!” Couldn’t have said it better myself. –Walter Pieringer.

Vert Mission 2019
It’s not every day that we get a Vert video to check out. The crew at Our BMX dropped by the Vert Mission 2019 contest that Mat Hoffman threw in San Diego. Here’s a video filled with highlights from the riding to some insight from a handful of familiar faces discussing the current status of Vert from its popularity. It’s not as common as it used to be due to the lack of the number of vert ramps, but it’s safe to say it’s alive and well. Just watching this contest, it would be awesome to see more of these happening since it could very well re-energize this side of BMX. This contest looked awesome.
“A vert event is few and far between these days, but it just so happened that Mat Hoffman decided to throw his Vert Mission event in San Diego. An X Games qualifying event, Vert Mission, gives the top three riders their time to shine at the biggest event in the world. I went out there the day before the event during practice in hopes of filming a “favorite rider” video with DMC and Hoffman, but also had the idea to get the opinions of the dudes riding the event on the state of vert riding… So here’s their answers mixed in with the contest footage and some random banter in between. In no way do I think vert is dead.” – Our BMX
Bernie The Bike Builder By Taj Mihelich Now Available
As many of you may have heard by now, Taj Mihelich has released a new book called “Bernie The Bike Builder” that he wrote and illustrated! The book focuses on Bernie the rabbit and Monty the dog who build bikes for their friends to ride and have fun on. If you have followed Taj’s Instagram, you will know his drawings always have a story and humor behind them, making this a great book for the kids and for the adult bike lover. This isn’t focused directly on BMX, but it definitely appears to have plenty of BMX influence. The book originally sold out on Taj’s Big Cartel page, but it looks like it’s now available in Hardcover and Paperback styles on Amazon now for $22.35 (Hardcover) and $17.50 (Paperback). If you were hoping to get a copy of the book, definitely get on this! We haven’t had a chance to check it out yet ourselves, but we’ve been hearing nothing but good things about it! You know if Taj had his hand at it, that it’s going to be awesome and well worth the money!
“Bernie is a master bike builder. The bikes he designs and builds are sought after by bike racers all over the world. However, none of his close friends seem interested in riding bikes. After a discussion with Monty the Corgi he realizes that his friends think they can’t ride bicycles because no bikes fit them. Bernie takes on the challenge to build his motely crew of pals custom bikes that they can ride. It takes all of his creativity and skills to design and build special bikes for T-rex, Bat, Shark and more!”
Written and Illustrated by former BMX world champion Taj Mihelich.
“In tight circles around a broad range of cycling subcultures old and new, BMX innovator, artist, animal lover and entrepreneur Taj Mihelich is a legend. A shy, clever, self-deprecating legend.
As a rider, Taj’s influence on ramp, street and trail riding still resonates three decades after he burst onto the BMX scene.
As an entrepreneur, Taj’s thoughtful, slightly irreverent perspective on the fun and freedom of riding a bicycle has inspired an army of smiling cyclers to follow his tire tracks worldwide.
“Bernie the Bike Builder” is the brightest peek yet into the colorful world of Taj Mihelich’s busy mind. Whimsically written and vividly illustrated by the life-long lover of all things two-wheeled, Taj’s first book follows an industrious rabbit and his Corgi pal Monty as the unlikely pair craft custom bicycles for a curious band of animal friends.
A sublime allegory about creatures and dreams big and small, “Bernie the Bike Builder” packs Seussian levels of heart and light into a story for all ages. Where the animals in Taj’s head dream of going might surprise you. How they get there will blow your mind.” – Harold McGruther
