Devon’s name is one of those names that there’s a good chance you have seen. Between the handful of times we’ve featured his work here on the site, like the October Photogallery, to having a ton of his photos featured between a bunch of the different websites, magazines and brands. Over the years, Devon has spent a lot of time bouncing around the country, traveling, shooting photos and working jobs to make the ends meet so he can keep doing his thing!
We’ve featured a lot of photographers over the years and I think everyone has a good story about what it takes to make it in this industry that can be tough to make a living out of. It is definitely well over due that we caught up with Devon to find out how he got into shooting photos and just what it takes to keep living the dream! Let’s see what he had to say along with a sample of his favorite photos!

Through The Lens: 25 Questions with Kevin Kiraly

November 13, 2013

TTL_91_opener-1_600x

Kevin Kiraly is one of the few pro riders out there these days that are pushing BMX in a positive direction and actually offering something unique as a rider. His technical skills on a bike come from years and years of dedication to what he does. He is one of the pickiest riders I know when it comes to spots, filming, and shooting photos but when you realize it’s because he wants to make everything look perfect it all makes sense. Kevin is a visual rider and knows what tricks should look like when they are done the right way so it’s all about finding the best trick for that specific spot which obviously could take a while. Kevin actually put out a part and won The Hunt video contest last week and came down to the premiere to celebrate and hang out so it was a perfect opportunity to catch up and find out what he’s been up to and what he has going on for the rest of this year. Enjoy.

Dillon Leeper Interview

November 12, 2013

One of the biggest and best things about doing this site is being able to introduce you guys to people you might not know much about or even I know about. Over the years I’ve probably heard about the Leeper brothers dozens of times and been asked if I had ever met them just as often. Honestly, all I knew is that they were brothers and they both rip on their bikes from different videos and photos that have surfaced over the years. Otherwise, I really didn’t know a whole lot more, but was definitely interested in finding out.
Recently Matt Coplon sent through a few photos of the two and the curiosity got to me and I knew I had to get ahold of these guys to find out just what they were about. So I’m stoked that today is part one of a two parter featuring interviews with both Dillon and Shane. Below you can find out all about Dillon, so let’s get into this!

Industry: Paul Robinson

November 1, 2013

One of the biggest and most important parts of keeping up with BMX and running this site is communication. There are a lot of people involved in BMX that are good to keep up with, especially the guys who are making things happen. Over the past two or so years, one guy who I have always stayed in contact with is Paul Robinson. Paul’s name might look familiar because he’s been a huge driving force behind a lot of the projects you have seen between Wethepeople, Eclat and Almond. I mean, who do you think has been in charge of getting the Eclat team all around the world lately? Between all of his different roles he handles on a day-to-day between all of the brands, Paul is also a really talented photographer, which he will never admit to. I figured if you wanted to get a better understanding of just what it’s like to work in the industry, I think his job would be one that’s good to look at to understand that you need to be on your stuff and versatile enough to handle anything that comes your way. Let’s get to know this guy a little better…

James Colella and Kings Rideshop

If there’s one thing that has been really good for BMX, it has been the shops that fully support BMX 100%. One of those shops would be Kings Rideshop out in California. This BMX only shop has been going strong for nearly a decade, and in that time it has grown and developed a scene that is really important to help keep this lifestyle of ours going strong.
Over the years, I’ve seen a lot of cool things come from Kings Rideshop and figured it would be a good time to catch up with the owner, James Collela, to find out a little bit about him and what the shop is all about! Let’s get into this to see what he had to say!

Scotty Wemmer Interview

October 24, 2013

Portrait_600x

BMX is kind of crazy in a sense that it’s completely open for creation. There are no rules and in the process it allows a lot of creativity and originality to surface. That has also lead to a good number of creative people taking the sport and creating their own program through different mediums of art.
By now, you guys are probably well aware of the Act Like You Know crew and what they are all about. Between their insane video filled with almost unknown riders from Ohio that are now on everyones radar to their apparel line and other projects, they have definitely been doing things right. This crew made their place in BMX and created something that was simply based off a love for BMX and wanting to produce something quality, showing the world what they were capable of.
What you might not know is that a lot of the Act Like You Know image is based off the art work of Scotty Wemmer. Scotty is one of those people in the industry that took his love for bikes and art and was able to create his own spot that has directly influenced BMX and undoubtably impressed a lot of people.
With the release of the 2nd Act Like You Know DVD “No Days Off” getting real close to completion, we figured it would be a perfect time to get to know Scotty and to talk about his role with the brand and what kind of a career it has lead him into. Let’s find out what Scotty is all about!

Through The Lens: Quick Chat with Brett Banasiewicz

October 23, 2013

Brett Banasiewicz

This week I am proud to present an interview with Brett Banasiewicz. If you don’t know who Brett is, stop reading this immediately and go do some research. Once you take care of that, and get out from underneath the rock you have been living under, come back to this and check it out. I have known Brett for years now and have seen him come up in the crazy BMX world and rise straight to the top. I have been lucky enough to document Brett’s riding over the years at most major contests and it’s been obvious for a long time that Brett was ahead of his time. He was one of the youngest riders in the game for a while there and was holding his own against the rest of the BMX world. He has a huge fan following and although Brett has been dealing with the recovery process after his crash in 2012 he has been taking it all in stride and has the positive mindset of a true champion. His determination will inspire you to get out there and accomplish your goals. His focus and drive to get back to where he was is motivating to say the least and he has nothing but love for BMX. Check it!
