Let’s Help Out Shawn Real

November 8, 2016

shawn-real-gofundme-bmx

It’s always a bummer hearing about a rider that has had a nasty fall and landed a spot in the hospital. This time around Shawn Real took a bad crash after his fork snapped (photo below) clean off, sending him tumbling and breaking a couple of vertebrae’s in his back. You can get the full details and donate over on the GoFundMe page that has been setup. If you can afford to pitch in a few bucks, that’s great. If not, at least help spread the word since that can go a long way, too.

Below you can find a feature on Shawn that DIG ran a little while back to give you some more insight into just what kind of a guy he is.

“After his years in Greenville Shawn found himself moving up to Long Island for work for six months or so, and he coincidentally moved to the same town where myself and Russ Barone live. After meeting Russ and the other dudes he continued to ride with all them, but mainly stuck to street and park. Thinking he wouldn’t be interested, It wasn’t until a year or so later that Russ told him about the trails… but little did he know that Shawn grew up racing and riding jumps. Since he’s been coming down to the trails and since I met him, I’ve learned a lot about this individual who I can now call a true friend. Shawn is a stand up human and one hell of a fucking ripper. I wanted to put this edit together of him cause i hate when i see people of this talent get little or no recognition from the BMX world. So sit back, enjoy, and recognize.

FBM – Magilla “The Bar Is Closed” Section

November 8, 2016

FBM keeping the sections from their “The Bar Is Closed” video coming. This video was released back in 1996 (20 years ago for those of you trying to math), and it still kicks a lot of ass. This time around we get a look at Jeremy “Magilla” Reiss’ section that’s loaded with trails, ramps, X-Ups, style and milk chugging. Enjoy!

Jake Ortiz Wallride Crash

November 8, 2016

We’re not quite sure what it is about crash clips, but they always suck you in. This clip of Jake Ortiz clipping on a big wall ride to gap over a rail ended up in our feed this morning and we ended up watching it a few times. We then realized there were nearly 8,000 views on the video in the last day, so apparently people are still mesmerized by crashes. Let’s just feed the beast and post this up, right? The only downside to watching this is all we can think about is how much we would have loved to see Jake rocking a helmet in this situation. Luckily he walked away with a little scuff on the arm and that’s it.

Jonathan Comacho – Riding For A Dream

November 8, 2016

It’s always pretty interesting seeing where BMX can take somebody, and it’s always really interesting to see where they came from and what it took to make a dream like becoming a professional rider a reality. It’s a lot easier from somebody with plenty of resources than it is for a rider that doesn’t have much to work with. Despite the challenges, Jonathan Comacho has worked hard to make it possible for him show everyone what he’s capable of on a bike. Unfortunately, without sponsors and more to help keep Jonathan on the move, it gets complicated quickly to maintain the constant travel schedule for contests and more. Above is a video giving you a little insight into what it has taken for Jonathan to get out there so far, but he needs a little help making the next move. There has been a GoFundMe page setup to help support him to hopefully make this dream of being a pro rider a reality. You can check that all out RIGHT HERE. Maybe this will put him on a few brands radars as well.

“Jonathan Camacho is a world class freestyle BMX rider. He comes from a small beach town in Ecuador called Playas Villamil. Growing up under the injustice of poverty, he knows that only with determination and drive will he be able to conquer the obstacles in the way of his dreams.

At age 14, he build his own BMX ramp at home. Since then, with support of his friends, family and local sponsors, he manage to compete and win many titles internationally. Now, at age 23, after competing at the FISE World Series 2016, he has positioned himself among the world’s top ten.

Unfortunately, freestyle BMX is not yet an olympic sport, making him dependent on private donors and local sponsorship. FISE and partners are pushing hard to make it an olympic sport in time for the next games, that way, talented athletes like Jonathan who have limited or no access to training facilities, sponsorship and mentorship can aspire to professional careers.

In the meantime, Jonathan needs our help in order to continue competing at the highest levels. Travel, equipments and medical expenses add up over the course of the competitive season, and Jonathan needs our support to remain competitive.

Rich Hirsch “Blueprint” Section

November 7, 2016

One of the cool parts about BMX is how so many of the brands came from riders that were once pro riders. Before Lotek and Stranger ever existed, Rich Hirsch was out there crushing it in the Northwest at a ton of skateparks and street spots as a pro. This section was filmed before his pro career started riding for brands like Mosh, Odyssey and Subrosa, but it’s easy to see why things took off for him. Hit play and take it all in!

“Rich’s part from the NW BMX classic Blueprint. This part basically was right before Rich got put on Mosh & Odyssey. The calm before the storm. Rich has always been very well rounded and holds it down down with a little bit of tech and a little bit of hesh in this part.” – Snakebite

Bikestuff – Nazar Moroz X Andrit Gaevkiy

November 7, 2016

The crew over at Bikestuff hit us with a link to a video featuring Nazar Moroz and Andrit Gaevkiy getting some time in at their local skatepark. The film quality is a little dark, but the riding makes up for it.

Trampoline Ramp & Backyard Olympics

November 7, 2016

Everyone knows that BMX and trampolines go together like macaroni and cheese… Well, maybe not that well, but combining the two usually leads to good times. Trey Jones, Matty Cranmer and Big Boy decided to put a few ramps up to the trampoline for a session, then Trey decided to take on the backyard olympics. Hit play to check out a few tricks they cooked up with the help of the bounce, along with Trey doing fakie wallrides on every tree in the yard.

Don’t forget to help Scotty Cranmer out over on the Road2Recovery website.

ReUp – Dan’s Comp – Stevie Churchill House Park Session

November 7, 2016

Dan’s Comp decided to re-up an old Stevie Churchill video from 2012 to their Youtube channel. Since we’re sure a ton of you might have missed this one or just forgot about it, we figured it would be a good idea to re-post it since it has some damn good riding. Hit play and take it all in once more.
